  1. News flash – 2 to 4 inches of snow predicted to come upon us by tomorrow.
  2. I'm feeling a headache coming on, which I am quite sure will have to do with the Return of the Winter, for thankfully, today's classes were well-behaved. While they were working on some artistic assignments, I had a chat with two 5th year boys, who showed a surprising degree of awareness of advanced physics, such as those relating to black holes or the many-worlds concept from the field of quantum theory. One of the two proclaimed he wants to be a programmer as he thinks it appealing that in his understanding, there is no such thing as a completely unsolvable problem. That is not at a bad attitude at all, I should think!
  3. Morning all... Cold and dark and much too early, and I'd so like to sleep in, but that's not to be. Talk to you later...
  4. Sounds like a typical case of the left hand not knowing what the other does, Dave.
  5. Morning all... Temperature has dropped below 4°C, but it's still sunny at this time. Rain and snow to commence in the afternoon, it seems. Oh, the joy... Can't tell if I slept sufficiently well, which I think I'll find out around noon!
  6. I had another nap after breakfast as well as I felt too drained to do much of anything. Can only guess why, though in recent weeks it's been fairly hectic on this end at times. I'm currently preparing some baguettes in the oven and hope things'll improve after that. Chili con carne for dinner, too!
  7. Morning all (belatedly)... Weather's showing signs of deteriorating, but it's still balmy enough to leave the windows open. And I could well have another two or three hours of sleep...
  8. Morning all... Dull again and it's been raining over night, though it's still fairly balmy. Forecast for Monday but predicts us being back to -1°C. Yuck... – At least the daylight does last significantly longer already, which is a good thing! Enjoy your day, everyone...
  9. That is very good news indeed, DD! Fingers crossed that she'll be feeling much better now...
  10. Morning all... Brought SWMBO to the GP for a checkup and while I'm waiting, I said hello to these fellows: I'm sure they won't be happy when it turns cold again next week!
  11. I would think it's the combination of white and green outer walls, sky grey ceiling and grey and glistening pillars that's supposed to resemble a wet and misty tropical forest! At least that was the gist of an article I read about this renovation a couple of weeks ago.
  12. Could be the brown mosaic section on one side of the pillar is supposed to represent wood!
  13. Sorry to hear those news, Mike. It certainly is gut-wrenching what Alzheimer's can do to people who one will mostly have known as having been alert, bright and vital for all their lives. At least that's how I felt in Grandma's final months... On another matter: I previously posted this panoramic photo of the suburban section of Frankfurt Central Station, which is currently being renovated... ...and mentioned that the round pillars will have their old tiling replaced. Specifically, they're intended to look like this when finished: ...with a combination of mosaic and polished steel plating, augmented by indirect lighting around the top end. I understand the idea is for the renovated station to give the impression of a rainforest.
  14. Morning all... Nice to be waking up to the twittering of birds! Will be off to the library around 8 am and see to returning soonest as I have some more things to read up on. Cheers...
  15. It's been really nice and sunny over here as well. Feeling better now as well, though still exhausted. Question for you – is there any reason why I shouldn't add a historic EMU to my fleet? I do think it'd make for a nice change from locos, historic or otherwise!
  16. Been one of those days so far, thankfully with some time in between to talk to the colleagues in order to remain earthed. I do feel like it could be migraine time, though, so I'll try to take things easy for the rest of the day.
  17. Morning... Same old story – tired. More later, I think.
  18. Oh dear, DD, that sure is a bummer... Fingers crossed for your friend that it might not come to the worst.
  19. I'd most like to sign up at that uni which has "Ex astris scientia" as its motto - if it did exist. Alas...
  20. Morning all... Cold and dark still, and tired – so I'll just say, enjoy your day... Later!
  21. Morning all... Late to bed last night, so still drowsy. Weather forecast mentions a mix of sun and clouds, though as long as it stays dry and mostly light, I don't mind. Cheers everyone!
  22. I'm quite speechless about what's unfolding outside as I'm typing this: Sunshine and close to 13°C. Unbelievable...
  23. Morning all... Still fighting off sleep, so not able to say all that much at this time. Enjoy your day, everyone!
  24. Morning all... Needed to catch up with some sleep I missed the night before, but feeling better now. Still fairly dull outside, but expected to turn increasingly sunny over the weekend. Finally, I should add! Have a good one...
