  1. I can imagine how things like these serve to unsettle you, DD, especially when they occur with significant frequency... You certainly have my sympathies .
  2. I'll be up at the same time you were first around tomorrow and on Tuesday, Don! Thankfully, the time when I had trouble sleeping longer than about till 5 or 6 am, regardless of it being a day off or not, would appear to be behind me... Though I admit that with the unsteady weather we're having these days, I do not completely sleep through either. Oh well!
  3. Morning all... About 4°C outside and it's unlikely to become much warmer, according to the forecast. Looking like a fairly quiet Sunday is up, which is perfectly fine with me. Hope you all had as good a day as Bob did yesterday, or will have one today!
  4. Morning all! Looking fairly dull outside again, though the rain is expected to pause till tomorrow night. Still, I'm glad that I don't have to be outside, except for a trip to the supermarket after I brought SWMBO to the station. Later...
  5. I'm sure they belong to a different company branch.
  6. There just never is a Wookiee around to ask for their personal opinion when you need one...
  7. Morning all... It really has been fairly windy during the night, but seems to have calmed down a bit. I did take the opportunity for airing the flat, though! However, the forecast for the weekend is less than appealing as we can expect another major rain front later today. Aside from my getting a haircut in the afternoon, I don't have anything spectacular on the agenda thus far. Enjoy your day!
  8. I just posted a new loco profile on my "Les Landes" blog – do have a look, if you like: http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/blog/814/entry-11033-a-prima-example-for-modern-diesels-sncf-class-bb-75000-from-oskar/
  9. I once had a MRI scan myself and while I admit to having been tense, I think this had more to do with the physical and technological background of these machines. If only we could put all there is in technology purely to constructive and beneficial use...
  10. Clouds are chasing across the darkening sky and I'm glad to have tidied up the flat for today. Though perhaps I may send the vacuum cleaning robot on another round. It does help increase the overall tidiness indeed!
  11. Pretty much like in the geography course I once taught - exam marks ranged from A to E. However, the rest of their marks for assignments and homework were good enough so that no-one got less than a D in their end-of-year report.
  12. I just love it when office hours are changed on short notice - not. But I did get to picking up a book from the library at least, so the trip wasn't completely useless. Last night, an empty freight train consisting of coal hoppers derailed at Western Station in Frankfurt. When I looked on my way back, only one wagon of the five that seemed to have derailed was still off the rails, but aside from some roadbed and possibly wheelset damage, no serious problems would appear to have resulted from the incident - and most importantly, no-one was hurt.
  13. I guess it depends on the answers provided by your pupils!
  14. Morning all... It's fairly blustery indeed and there's a weather warning of winds gusting up to 7 to 8 bft. Will have to stop by at uni later on to have some paperwork done, but aside from that, nothing of particular notice on the agenda. Cheers!
  15. Morning all... Pretty gloomy outside with wind and rain, and around 9°C as I'm typing this. We were out last night for dinner and watching Cloud Atlas, which we'd been up to for weeks, actually. Having read the book, I found the film to be a fairly faithful adaptation with suitably expressive footage and sound. I found it slightly overwhelming at times, but that may be because it gave shape to what was one of the most impressive books I ever read. However, I grant you that it may be difficult to fully comprehend if you have not read the book! Enjoy your day, or try to at least!
  16. Phil, may I just add my condolences as well... I but agree that leaving in her sleep sounds like a peaceful and dignified closing note to the book of life. Dave – that sounds like it could have resulted in tragedy indeed. Touch wood none of us will ever be involved in a similarly bad accident.
  17. Morning... Windy outside and rain is expected to follow throughout today, tomorrow and Thursday. Deep joy! More later once I'm back from school...
  18. Let's just say this was a very mixed bag of classes I had today! I rather enjoyed watching over a 6th year Arts course, though, who are currently working on a self-designed cook book. Temperature is now above 3°C, so I wonder how long the remaining snow will last.
  19. Mornin'... Off to work in a few minutes, so I'd just like to wish you all a good day. Here's hoping that today's classes will be well-behaved... Cheers!
  20. Snowing fairly heavily right now, though I guess this is better than freezing rain! Temperature is currently at 0.3°C and will probably rise further. There was a moment of concern around here this morning when we noticed an odd smell in the basement. As we suspected it to have to do with the heating, we called the gas company, who sent a response team to investigate. Their verdict was that exhaust gasses had not been vented properly, shutting off the gas main to our house till a technician from the builder who had installed the heating could check it out. We pulled open as many doors and windows as possible to get those gasses out as they were reaching critical levels when the team arrived. However, everything is now checked out and fixed for the time being, and the technician will perform a more thorough checkup later next week.
  21. Morning all! Outside temperature has risen to just below freezing, so I'm keeping an eye on whether the predicted freezing rain will materialise. Slept in a bit longer this morning, too, as I felt like I got too little shut-eye for the past few days. Wish you all a nice Sunday, and be safe, wherever you need to go today...
  22. Morning all... Tried to sleep in a bit longer today, but only made it till just shy of 8 am. Sky's looking very dull and there's a possibility of snow later on, followed by another round of freezing rain tomorrow and then a temperature rise till about 11°C by Wednesday. Migraine ahoy! Enjoy your day!
  23. Charlie the beagle must be kept from poking his nose inside the dishwasher and indeed the trash can, too! Our rabbits haven't visited the kitchen in quite a while, but they never showed any such inclination when they had.
  24. Morning all... Dark and cold outside, but I'll have to brave both in a while when I head for the bakery. We'll also have to take the rabbits to the vet for their jabs – getting hold of them for putting them in the travel box will most likely be a challenge once again! Enjoy your day!
