has just heard from a leader of the retail motor trade, the use of the expression "previously enjoyed..." for used cars.

Well this is so, "previously enjoyed": "previously thrashed", "previously run into the ground as a private taxi", "previously owned by a mechanically illiterate oaf". The "previously" goes on and on.
The best one can say is that the previous owner did once enjoy the lemon that the s/h retailer is trying to dispose of. The reason why it is in the retailers hands is that the enjoyment has slackened off a bit...
