  1. I’ve long thought about respraying one of mine, but then I would need an airbrush so common sense prevails at the moment.... but the day will come.
  2. Ahhh this is where my ignorance let’s me down.. I need to go and educate myself about control signals etc..
  3. Hi Nick, My understanding is that I can power servos from the adafruit boards 5v input, or am I misunderstanding this? I am completely new to the world of electronics.. Tom
  4. Thank you David and Melmerby. That’s just what I was looking for. A friend gave me an arduino kit last Christmas and I had no idea what to do with it or all the bits that came with it. I now have the basis for my project with Pico and breadboard to try out a servo control app.
  5. Thanks David, That explained it clearly to me. So for my project idea, controlling servos by switches, would good as I don’t need to to do anything else. I have downloaded micro python and blinked the LED. “One small step.......” One last question if I may. I see people on you tube using prototype boards, but what do they do when they have got it working? I assume you would have to mount it to a pcb board? Tom
  6. I’m amazed that you are able to store all these layouts :D
  7. Found out you can download mag for free as pdf. The content is not particularly interesting to me but there’s certainly plent to learn from.
  8. I got one of these the other day with the mag. I am looking to get into some beginners electronics, but a bit confused by terminology. So a microcontroller is a single use computer and the Pi4 is a full blown multi use computer? I got the board really to find out about controlling servos for points and am looking at gettting an Adafruit servo module. I’m just waiting for some pins to arrive and then I’ll start learning some coding. what I don’t understand is all the input/output lingo, but am teaching myself via YouTube.
  9. I was saying to my friend in Wales that I would have been travelling down from Yorkshire with him to my second favourite show Looking forward to hopefully returning to the show next year..
  10. But that’s the point, we don’t normally talk, and it’s not whining it’s an illness Hope the move goes ok. I’ve now got a “train set” I play with when things get darker, that I can set up on kitchen table. With some Kato track, 1 switch, some America stock, some mock cardboard buildings and waybills can take my mind off things for a while and just let’s me play trains.
  11. Yes, Ive noted the lengthening days.. just need to get out of this grotty weather, so I can get proper daily walks in as that's what I respond best to. Hope the weight lifts soon..
  12. Some days you lose, some days you win.. but progress is progress. I hadn't thought about doing that way, but I like it..
  13. Oooops, Damn auto correct on my gadget.. Good.. Im now noodling some bit of paper around.
  14. Great I was hoping so. Are you planning scenic loop i.e alp grim or hidden?
  15. Hi Paul, Ive been looking at the "Mushroom mockup" and I wonder what the radius is that you have for elevation change? It is something I am trying to noodle for a Nm9MOD idea that would fit my space. Tom
  16. Mike, Given the current situation, this maybe difficult. My way, admittedly with not so many was to donated to my local heritage railway. I did try a local charity shop but they said they didn’t have the space to keep themselves and thought it would be too difficult to move the quantity I was offering. Maybe a local charity that hospital or school visits. Or maybe put a free to good home on RMweb for someone in your local area once the national lock down is lifted. Condolences for your loss. Tom
  17. I hope to join you in that endeavour.. Tom
  18. Just found your thread and really like the feel of this. Think you have caught the scene really well and looking forward to seeing it progress.
  19. Yes I read the specs and saw the the difference from that to the ones I have. But I see that the internals don’t matter as long as the interfaces are the same. I completely agree about the larger sets and concentrating on smaller locations, which in fact I find far more interesting anyway. I came across an image the other day of a discarded EW1 coach in a siding of an industry, that would make a interesting diorama or module. Anyway looking forward to seeing this progress, when it does.
  20. Hello Paul, I’m getting back into the building a module idea and have a question as I go about starting my design. So is the minimum loop actually 1200mm as the Allegra sets may become a possibility and may be modelled by people or stick to the 890mm plus clearance.
  21. I am waking the thread in the new year having managed to get through Christmas. I am trying to get myself back to RMweb after a pretty horrid 2020. I tried coming back at some point but felt overwhelmed by some logging in probs, probably because I hadn’t been on for an extended period and the new layout and busyness of it. I felt the comfy front room feel had been replaced by one of those adverts of people sitting in an airport or station with hyper-lapsing around them. I am far from complaining and have always appreciated the efforts put in by the team to keep this juggernaut running but for me, at the time it was just too much concentration I didn’t have. The black dog chased me round the months barking in varying degrees and all compounded but the dreaded virus and a sense of isolation and some desolation, even though I know I’m not alone, having a family it still was one of the lowest points. I agree with tangoman69’s “People don’t fake depression, they fake being ok” and that is soooo true, and in my case, I was/am a master at it. Anyway, I'm not here to complain about the past but to look to the future. There is some learning how to the filter the content so I don’t get overcome, but I am attempting to get some connection back to rmweb. I’m looking forward to catching up on threads and projects I followed before and try to get some of my own progress going in 2021 and be a bit more productive.
  22. Well once the is beastly pandemic is over time for a return maybe Could one do It from know measurements and guesstimations? Sorry if that’s heresy
  23. Paul would it not be possible to 3D it then maybe have a casting to make N+1? Tom
  24. I’ve been pondering writing a SOP clocks changing manual as every year I’ve always forgotten how to change a Myriad of clocks around the house.. in that short space of time..
  25. I’ve got way to many things to distract me at the moment but I will have a go at a diorama at some point
