  1. Actually persuading them wasn't terribly hard. I have Gresley bogies (with pickups), and the Collett ones are a question of timing - ie when Dapol are have production slots and the relevant tool running. I do have a rough timescale but as it might reveal some of Dapol's product schedules I don't really want to share that info without permission. Alan
  2. Its that time of the year again and another freebie to print and fold up in card or photo paper. For best results print the tiff one at 1200dpi, but there is a jpeg as well. For larger scales either adjust the DPI or scale it in a print program accordingly. In N this fits the Peco 15' wagon chassis (or brake van if you think Santa needs footboards) Alan
  3. Scalelink have a pretty good range of mesh patterns including very fine ones ideal for N. Or you can get custom ones etched. If you can do 3D can you can do etched grille artwork !
  4. Feel free btw to grab the ones I did and do others from them, share them around etc. Please keep appropriate author info and don't make money out of it though.
  5. is back from Prague, there and back by train, much fun and the Dresden - Prague route is beautiful. Now where did I put the spare Z scale track...

  6. what is it about paint and telephones ? How come the mere act of beginning to paint something gets you two calls in five minutes

  8. tis done.. last piece of work for my degree course submitted and in. Now I can catch up on other stuff, look forward to Wales v Australia in the Rugby World Cup final and possibly get slightly drunk

  9. head hurts. Writing software to produce 3D meshes for 3D printing systems is worse than school geometry lessons

  10. main boards finally in place, join 'adjusted', points in the post

  11. Some times it seems the instructions take longer to produce than the kit, and then you just know nearly everyone throws them away 8-P Anyway tis done and the kit is up on the Ultima web site.
  12. The bogies are on backorder having slightly changed design to incorporate the coupling changes Colin Allbright made in the later bogies and having switched them to Nickel Silver. They should be back in a couple of weeks. It's also possible to build them with 2mm SA bogies if you are a member. You can do a reasonable approximation with BR Mark 1 bogies (available from Peter's Spares and other places) which is perhaps a good way to get going if you are not confident about bogie building. Sadly Bachmann don't do bogie packs in N as they do in OO and while I can get (and indeed do stock) some Dapol bogies with hopefully more to come I can't get RTR Bachmann bogies for the kits which would have been ideal. Alan
  13. Wait until he tries to line them.. that's the big horror of pre-grouping liveries. Alan (Currently going slowly insane lining a GCR 5A)

  15. Not had that experience so far - although I've been waiting before ordering some wheels as at the time it was clearly advised they were out of stock. Plenty of other things to finish in the meantime. There are really only two basic ways to make it happen faster - Figure out a better way to do it, and do it - See if you can join in and actually help with things like wheel assembly sessions or whatever your particular talent happens to be (If you don't have a talent I'm sure they can find you one 8) )
  16. a happy day banging and screwing ! three baseboards cut and screwed together ready to test it all fits properly then glue anf varnish. One to go

  19. I file out the holes, I've never tried drilling them and from your photo I don't think I will either 8) I've used very fine microstrip for rainstrips successfully, fine phosphor bronze wire also works but is trickier to fit to plastic roofs. I've never been enough of a perfectionist to use hairs across the roof at all the joins however ! You might want to try a nut and bolt and a pair of washers one each side of the hole to straighten it out any further ? Alan
  20. Lovely stuff - it's one of those layouts that just reeks atmosphere. Pity there are no facilities to teleport it to exhibitions 8) I shall watch for the Kernow am Byth graffiti to appear on the vans next 8)
  21. It's entirely down to the play available in N scale. The 3 axles just sit in bearing cups. No Cleminson chassis or middle axle sliding in tube needed for the job. This works in general for N scale up to about 26ft wheelbase vehicles and I have various six wheelers made from sawn up Peco chassis that work this way. Below 9" the middle wheel needs to be free to move (eg the Dapol Stove-R has the middle axle sliding in a central bearing) Alan
  22. And then suddenly it's August and hardly any modelling time has happened. The last couple of weeks I have had a bit of time however and got the Thompson BZ kit design done. This needs a few adjustments (making the roof extend over the ends a spot, moving the steps) but I'm pretty happy with the test run other than that. It rolls beautifully and it'll handle 9" curves.
  23. has just put his foot through the floor and discovered we have at least one dodgy board

Thankfully not - the crappy chipboard flooring gave but didn't disintegrate entirely

If your going to replace the whole of the floor get the waterproof chipboard from one of your local building suppliers. It has a sort of green colour to it and has tongue and grooved edges to it all round.

I hope we can patch it as it goes under at least one internal wall

I shall talk to the chippy and see what says, good chance to see if while he's doing one job he'll do another 'small one' and do my baseboard bracing 8)

  24. At this point the B4 is still in bits pending resurrection. I've just not had time to rebuild the poor beastie.
