I could think of a few but, I don't think they are suitable for posting here!

Oh! What joy! just had a few minutes of pure entertainment reading this entry and the comments. What talented comics we have on RMWeb!
Some of these examples would be even funnier if they weren't true!
I'm rather dissapointed that "Blue Pullman" or "wish list" didn't make the top 60!
Still there is time for an update in a week or two!
Cheers!

Now that's different! I would never have thought of that.
A great use of what would normally be a boring piece of plain MDF, I like that idea a lot.
Cheers!

Hi Prodigy,
I see you are slowly improving your blog entries. The inclusion of some pictures does help explain a lot more about what you are up to.
As rcmacchpilot has stated above, you could improve things further by including some more written details such as where your layout is located. (After reading your last entry with your shopping list I would guess London-Midland region somewhere?)
You could also tell us what track and what size and so on. All this kind of stuff would make you blog more interesting and get you more positive comments.
please note that my comments are not to put down your work but, to help you along to better things.
Talk again soon.
Cheers!

I do like that tunnel mouth, it is very convincing I can't believe it is just printed card.
I would appreciate some more info on that item if you can find the time to explain further.
cheers!

Hi Prodigy,
reading your blog entries gives me the idea that you are a fairly young person, (I stand to be corrected) and new to forums and blogging on RMWeb.
Whilst I agree with all the previous comments that your entries are a little boring and not really what this section of RMWeb is about, I think that you need some encouragement and guidance with your blogging and modelling.
Don't be put off by what you may think are negative comments, These comments are meant to be constructive and to help you make your blog more interesting to your readers.
I look forward to seeing you improve your blog and show us some thing of your layout when you have something to show us.
I will continue to read your blog in the hope that you take on board what Andy and Mikkel have said.
Cheers and good luck

Looks good!
I'm interested to find out how the PVA water experiment turns out, please keep us updated on progress.

Great stuff Will!
I'm not a great fan of diesels or continental railways BUT, this layout has something that grabs my attention.
I'm still not sure of what it is but it's got it in bucket loads!
Absolutely fantastic workmanship and I'm jealous!
Cheers!

Thanks to all for your comments and input.
Andy, great photograph, a large version would make an interesting back scene for the model Pen Y Bont.
As far as Pen Y Bont is concerned my options although limited are still open. IF I can arrange for assistance then I would rather keep the layout, but as Gary has mentioned above finding someone willing to help can be difficult and I'm not going to commit myself to shows if I can't get assistance. That's the problem with a one man band, a club layout would probably have sufficient members to cover the whole weekend including loading and unloading.
I will feel rather sad if I do have to part with Pen Y Bont, but, it has given me pleasure for nearly 6 years and my new project Morfa Bach will no doubt do the same.
Thanks to those offering assistance and your sympathetic response to my condition. You are all very kind, but I don't want to make a big issue about it. It's just one of those things that sometimes happens in life you just have to get on with it.
Thanks also to those who have taken the trouble to contact me via PM much appreciated .
I'll post again when I make the final decision.
Cheers!

I bet that 2-8-2 had the rivet counters confused a bit!
(BTW I do live in a bungalow! But, I don't sleep with my mummy!)

A consequence of using bucket loading with a none too marvellous operator (or number thereof) driving the bucket loader(s). If you look into the top of loaded wagons (pic available) you can sometimes see how it has happened. It starts to become a serious problem when bits are broken off and discharged into the power station's coal handling plant and are not caught at the first grid intended to catch such bits (or even worse things).
Are you saying these things are loaded by a man on a mechanical shovel?
I'm amazed that they are not loaded by conveyor or hopper
or something similar. It's marvellous what you can learn on here.
Cheers!
Frank
P.S. Are you sure it's not a very big CAT Chris, I bet the loading shovel has C A T on the side in big letters!
-
Phew! (breathes sigh of relief!)
For one horrible minute I thought the cat had been at it again!
Good luck at Wycrail this weekend.

Now that is scary!

That top picture showing the layout overview is quite impressive.
I'm not a great fan of continental stuff being a confirmed British steam nut, but, I like your layout a lot.
Probably because it is almost Cambrian coast line in appearance and that is my favourite stretch of line.
I'll keep looking!
Cheers!

That's a coincidence! I was just thinking of asking you if you had made any more progress and you beat me to it with this entry!
Sorry to hear about your mishaps, sod's law I think has something to do with it!
Been there, done it, got the T shirt!
Cheers!

Thanks for the comments so far everyone.
That's toned down nicely now Frank. Did you drill the square section to take the handrail wire or is it soldered onto the side of it?
Hi Andy
I thought I had replied to this comment earlier?? so don't know what went wrong there.
Anyway to answer your question.
Yes, I did drill holes through the uprights to take the wire rails. I made a quick simple jig to ensure they lined up.
I also drilled holes for Peco black track pins to fix the rails to the bridge.
Hope this answers your question.
Cheers

Hello Simon, Long time no speak!
Thanks for your comment and input, I never thought about using gun metal wash so may give it a try.
Having said that I have since given the structure another dry brushing with a better shade of silver grey.
Re the mud, i have got an idea that i have seen used by another modeller so I'll try his method first.
I'll post more when I reach that stage.
re my workmanship, If it turns out as well as Pen Y Bont I'll be happy.
Cheers!

Thanks Mike,
I have since added a better shade of silver grey and toned down that blue hue.
In reality it's not that bad, I think a lot of the effect was due to low light level outside when I took the pictures.
On with handrails next!

Nice job!
I like that BR blue livery, it did seem to suit some locos more than others though.
The GWR Kings in particular were rather fetching in blue.

Nice pictures and some useful information about colouring in your notes.
Inspiration for me and my new Cambrian project that will feature rocky outcrops.
Thanks for posting.

I like the croc clips on the cassette. An idea I used for quite a while.
The simplest ideas are usually the best and most reliable.

Hi Ollie, thanks for your comment.
Pen Y Bont is out again in November at Wolverhampton exhibition. Just down the M54 from Telford.
Maybe see you there!
Cheers!

Thanks very much for the input.
Yes a picture would be useful if it's no trouble.
How did you graft the flat bottom Peco rail to the bullhead? And how did you overcome the sleeper height difference.
sorry to ask all these questions but it's useful to know.
Cheers

Update - Photo of the Finished Buses

Very nice indeed! Not that I know much about buses!
The one with the black roof reminds me very much of the Midland Red (BMMO) motorway buses that existed when I was a youth!
Cheers!
