  1. Looks like another good one! Did anyone manage any photos of the event for those not able to make it? Cheers Wayne
  2. Yes and I found out by surprise when I wanted to recover some photos from my threads which were originally lost when my old PC went pop. It would have been nice to have had notice of the impending shut down to give anyone a chance to grab anything they wanted to save. Cheers
  3. @Chris Gilbert Hi Chris, I've not been over here since the above post but after 3 years I've purchased my first American stock, so I've been reading back through this thread. For my switching layout I'm only thinking of using four axle power and at a recent show I managed to pick up an Athearn RTR GP38-2, two bulkhead flat cars (one by Atlas) and a covered hopper which I think was built from an Athearn kit. The only problem is the dash 2 is in Duraham & Southern livery from the early 70s which is a little early for what I had in mind. DS was acquired by CSX in the late 80s, so I'm not entirely sure what to do. It was a good price and the only four axle loco I could find at the show. Cheers Wayne Ps: now that North Haston has been sold, did you ever build a replacement?
  4. Hello, Apologies for the lack of updates, just been busy with the job on the big railway and the usual chaos in the run up to the festive season. Back on the 30th November I took Trevanna to the EM Society AGM and modelling workshop held in Nantgarw. It was a lovely venue in the modern college and would happily exhibit there again, it was great to chat with other EM modellers and I also picked up a couple of invites, although nothing set in stone yet. I'll be starting work on a small extension to the clay works soon to increase the viewing area, as well as adding some new locos to the fleet. I only managed one photo of the layout at the show.
  5. I usually use thinners to remove numbers but it can be harsh on the paint. For this and a blue 37 I'm doing, I tried a method used by an American modeller I follow on YouTube. You need a bottle of Micro Sol, some kitchen towel, a small brush and cotton buds. Cut a piece of towel to cover the number, apply Micro Sol and leave to soak for five minutes. Then remove the towel and the numbers should scrub away with the cotton buds. Hey presto!
  6. Another project I've been working on is renumbering and weathering this Bachmann BR blue class 08. This one has been in a stock-box for some time so has finally seen some light. I'm keeping the factory paint as a full repaint wouldn't make much difference after it's weathered to be honest, although some 'armchair experts' may disagree. This one is going to become 08801 which worked in Cornwall and South Wales, so an ideal candidate for current and future layouts.
  7. I took Trevanna Dries to a small exhibition at Porthcawl in South Wales yesterday, here's a couple of photos taken during quiet periods of driving. A few people chatted and asked questions, although as I didn't build the layout I answered as best as I could. It was nice to meet Mervyn of this parish as well. Cheers Wayne
  8. Well what a great show, I thoroughly enjoyed exhibiting today. Great to catch up with old faces and meet some new ones, many people travelled far and wide to visit and they all seemed to enjoy it. Thanks to Peter and the EM society for the invite... Here's a quick photo the layout I was showing, Trevanna Dries. It's just turned lunch time at the works and the manager has popped out for sneaky photo before any of his employees find out he has an interest in railways.
  9. Such a shame, this could well have been my first Hornby class 60 in the fleet following a re-number. I won't be buying it now sorry, this is an error that should have been spotted at quality control when the first painted sample was done. I don't think it could be corrected without a full repaint, but I'm not doing that considering the cost of the model. Cheers
  10. The latest loco to join the fleet.... These days it's rare that I buy a new model because the cost just seems to be climbing, even though a manufacturer might not have made any improvements to a model in about ten years. But with my birthday around the round the corner, this one seemed justified... Well to me anyway. So yesterday I went to one of the local model shops and walked out with BR blue 37284 by Bachmann. In due course it'll be re-gauged to EM, re-numbered and weathered, it'll also see use on a future project featuring blue locos as I've decided to start a small early 1980s fleet.
  11. Just agreed to do another show. This time in Porthcawl on Sunday 15th December, more details to follow.
  12. Quick update on this. I'll be taking Trevanna to the EM gauge society workshop and AGM on Saturday 30th November. It's coming to Wales for the first time and it will be held in Nantgarw. The show will be at the Coleg y Cymoedd, Nantgarw Campus Heol y Coleg Parc Nantgarw Cardiff CF15 7QY Doors will open at 10:00am and members of the public are welcome to the show and admission is £4.00 to non members. Cheers
  13. A bit more progress on the groundwork today before work. I think it's safe to say that it's starting to look like a layout now. After all this time changing track layouts and modelling mood coming and going, it's good to see things moving. It should not take six years to build a small layout, and to honest I'm annoyed with myself for taking that long.
  14. I've just had another look at this thread. Hope the visit to Scaleforum went well? Unfortunately it was too far to get to for me with work as well, I don't suppose it has any outings before the end of the year? Cheers
  15. It's a dark brown in fact. I can't guarantee it'll be dry for January!
  16. More bridge work being done today, but I couldn't resist a quick posed shot. 50014 arrives with a couple of vans in tow. After running round it will shunt the GUV over to the covered unloading area to drop off parcels for a courier before leaving light engine.
  17. The bare shell of the bridge is now complete, tomorrow I'll start cladding it with stone. I should also be able to start forming the embankments either side, the one in front of the 50 will slope down to a scrubby area with a small wall while the one on the far side will back onto a warehouse for the builders merchant. More tomorrow.
  18. Work starts on the road overbridge that will form the scenic break. It'll be based on an example local to me.
  19. Hi Will. Looks okay to me, a full size loco will sit at slightly different heights anyway depending on how much wear there is in the springs. If you look up a photo of the tripple class 20s on the 'Three to the Sea' tour, you'll notice the railreight one rides higher as it had new springs fitted before the tour. Cheers.
  20. A day off work today sees the back and end fascias go on....
  21. Hi Dave! Here you go, just for you. I've taken your advice and mov d the run round point towards the other one to lengthen that siding slightly. In the foreground will be a road bridge with I'm going to start tomorrow. Cheers.
  22. The idea is that the layout is fictitious at the moment. I just like the name, and of course a fan of the show.
  23. Hello, Just a placemarker for my next project. More to come. Cheers.
  24. After sorting a wiring issue which has resulted in trains actually running, I can get on with bits I enjoy more. A look over the boundary wall sees the first bit of groundwork going in, an area of cobbled hardstanding which will lead to an old goods shed. There will be no track here, it having been removed previously. Here's a quick photo to show things so far. More soon.
  25. Yes Rob, I've gone into GWR and have a broad guage loco on the go. I moved into EM gauge a couple of years ago when I acquired one of Mr Tailby's layouts. Cheers. PS sorry I didn't get to say hello at Taunton, I didn't get there till late thanks to Cross Country Trains and by the time I looked round ran out of time.
