  1. I haven't updated this thread in a while but things have been a bit busy what with Christmas and starting a new job at the end of November. Anyway, I've recently been going through various stock boxes trying to get the unfinished projects to completion and top of the list has been the speedlink stock. I started working on a few vans a while back and last to be done were the VGAs which can be found further up the thread. I've recently built a VEA and an OTA to add to the collection, there are others of both types but they will operate in fixed formations. The OTA is at the painting stage but the VEA needs some attention to some blemishes in the paintwork. I've also been looking at my Heljan class 26 to see what needs improving and so far the roof grille will definitely be replaced along with the bogie modification, along with a renumber of course. I'll try to update this thread more regularly as my shifts now allow me a bit more time to myself. Cheers Wayne
  2. Hi Peter, Sorry if I missed it earlier but does your 26 have laserglaze fitted? I have a set for a 26 and just wondered how you got on with it (if you used it of course). Cheers Wayne
  3. A quick five minuets on Flickr found 37675 at Ayr depot. https://www.flickr.com/photos/37190-dalzell/13960255916/in/photolist-ngBXHw Maybe because they were 'foreign' traction, not a lot of attention was given to them by scottish enthusiasts. Cheers
  4. Hello all, Just came across this while looking for something else. The wagon sides and solebars are for an OCA but it has an SPA floor with the raised battens. Two kits have been mixed up here, as Gilbert (Chris) said the SPA sides are different on the centre door and of course they're shallower. The solebar for an SPA is also shallower than the OCA and it also angles downwards at the ends to meet the SPA headstock. Easy to tell straight away having built many over the years. Hope that helps. Cheers
  5. My first was the Lima HST in executive 'Intercity 125' livery, way back in the late 80s/early 90s not sure of the exact year. I can't remember what happened to it but I know I used to crash it a lot! Happily I no longer crash my trains, at least not intentionally! Cheers
  6. Hi Chris, Hope you don't mind me sharing these but here's a couple of photos I took of Dock Street while operating at Thornbury. A quite moment at Dock Street as the shunters take a break and head to the bothy for a cuppa and a sarnie. 20172 sits ready to leave the yard with a speedlink trip working. Just a few wagons left in the yard for the next trip to sort out. Thanks for letting me have a play once again, I've decided to introduce a card system for my shunting layout Tunnock Yard, in addition to this there will be fixed trains that arrive to run round. Cheers Wayne
  7. Not quite correct, Wisconsin Central had already bought the three 'shadow' freight companies and locos were painted in this manner until they decided on a company livery and name which of course was English Welsh and Scottish railways, the livery was based on Wisconsin's livery of red and gold. The 'ghost' period was about 1996. Privatisation was given the go ahead in 1993 with the signing of a new railways act.
  8. I do like how BR black livery weathers down, so much better than shiny SR green! Good work as usual!
  9. Hello sir, Nice work on the 16t minerals, the rust effects really look the part. For the early eighties period on Tunnock Yard I've started with putting together a small engineers train, so far I have a 13t steel open wagon, a ex GWR Starfish ballast wagon and joining them will be a 13t sand tippler. Cheers
  10. Area around the bridge looking great. Sorry if I missed it already but how did you the capping for the bridge walls? It looks similar to what I need. Cheers
  11. Nice job Paul. What paint did you use for the loads? I have four YGH Sealions where the ballast has discoloured. Cheers Wayne
  12. Might not be much paint in time for the show sir so that's not a problem!
  13. Hi Jules, The layout itself is fictitious, with only the stock placing it in a certain era or region. Cheers Wayne
  14. Indeed, certainly this will have to be allowed for as it's a Deltic so it's bound to just 'sit down' at some point!
  15. Getting there, although the points have had issues so I'm tempted to replace them with C&L kits. I've mainly been working on stock and thinking what will be in the background. I haven't posted any photos as I'd rather just get on with things, I've also recently started a new job so I've been quite busy with that. The layout is due to appear at a small local show in January as a work in progress exhibit but I'm hoping I'll be able to do a little shunting! I will post some photos as soon as I can though, so please stay tuned in. Cheers Wayne
  16. Hi gents, It was nice to finally see this at Warley due to it being pulled from Taunton. I hope you don't mind me sharing these, but here's a few shots I grabbed of Tidworth on Saturday afternoon. A local service arrives at the station worked by a Thumper DEMU unit. The local Tidworth pilot takes a break between shunts. The dutch team arrive at Tidworth. This was a nice cop, at the time it would be rare to see a civil loco working an RFD MOD service, while the ED was running round it's engineers train. 33117 comes to a stand with a 4TC, while NSE liveried 33035 engages in some shunting. These were the last two trains of the day on Saturday. Cheers Wayne
  17. Hi guys! Having missed the layout at Taunton it was great to finally see it yesterday! was hoping to come back after doing the trades for a longer look but when I got back it was packing up time and 33117 was departing with the last service of the day while NSE 33035 departed light engine after dropping off a freight! Look forward to seeing it again sometime, any other outings this year? Cheers Wayne
  18. Looking forward to hopefully seeing Tidworth tomorrow! Cheers Wayne
  19. Hi Chris, That's interesting to hear, depending on work I may pop along for a look at the older stock running. Cheers Wayne
  20. Hi Chris, Just wanted to say it was nice to see Dock street at Thornbury, good to meet and chat with you as well! Oh, and thanks for letting me have a play, I like the card system and might introduce a similar thing for my shunting plank. Cheers, Wayne
  21. I do like the look of it, I'm sure the new owner is enjoying it. Did you find out if he's on RMweb?
  22. Work on 25032 continues with the fuel tank area, this mostly involves cutting off the moulded detail and re-mounting it to provide some relief and I'll add some extra parts which are visile at the open end of the chassis. One issue is that the Bachmann have made the battery box too shallow so I'm replacing it with a simple scratchbuilt one.
  23. Hi, The ones I used on my SPA wagons are from S Kits, the come with the brackets attached. Hi Jules, Yes I have the magazine as I'm a subscriber but haven't had chance to read it yet. My modelling budget won't stretch to a SLW class 24 so I'm doing it the old way using a Bachmann chassis and Hornby body. Cheers Wayne
  24. Hello, I was looking forward to seeing this at Rail Ex Taunton today, I see it was listed on here but not on the show site. Am I missing something or was the layout pulled from the show? Cheers Wayne
  25. Hello sir, Was nice to see Mutton up and running at the show, it really shows what you can do with ready to run stock. I think your scenic work is excellent, don't suppose you fancy doing mine on Tunnock Yard?! Cheers Wayne
