  1. I re wheeled Phils J27 with Gibsons to EM, but still a fair ammount of splasher grinding was needed. I didn't touch the footplate rivets, leaving that for Phil to do if he wanted to.
  2. Now enjoy yourself grinding out the wheelarches to fit the chassis back!! Been there, done that. Pete
  3. Great work Paul. I've done the trailing bogie the same way, but have not yet tackled the driven one, so thanks for posting. Pete
  4. I'll be interested to see how you will convert that to EM......scratching my head on how to do mine. The axle diameters are so thin, and the bogies so narrow internally! Pete
  5. Please may I ask for clarity about vaccine passports? Will these still be required for visiting? I realise that the state rules may have been lifted by the time of the show, but I believe that the organisers are still able to require them if they wish to do so. Pete
  6. A very nice piece of kit I must admit, but it's minimum rolling diameter of 29mm is too large for most 4mm boilers sadly. I agree with Micklner. Brass or nickel sheet is best cut with a scrawker and metal straight edge. Thin 10 thou sheet can also be cut with a scalpel and new blade along a straight edge, several passes being made before bending to break off the part. Tinsnips always buckle parts of the material, and the notion that rolling it will eliminate buckles is pretty false. You will usually have ripples remaining.
  7. No problems detected here either on Simon's site. Have ordered plenty from Titfield during the various lockdowns, always been 100% safe and totally excellent service too.
  8. You are quite right about the Pickering shop being a shadow of the York shop! Agree about the upper floor in the York Micklegate one, think I spent a fair few quid there too. The Pickering shop certainly was more of a toy shop, which was renamed Puffers as you said. I also remember the individual you mentioned with regard to the York shop, and he came to the Pickering shop when York closed, but I don't think remained there long.
  9. The Pickering shop was called Puffers, and was opposite the station. They also had a large shop in York, also called Puffers, but that closed some time before Chris died.
  10. Yes he did say words to that effect, and the proof was often seen with visitors locos struggling after a lap or two of the GN main line. Even his own builds sometimes required a new gearbox. I remember his P2 Mons Meg which I believe needed two over a period of a few years. One of the basic problems with friction fit driving wheels is that builders will insist on fitting and removing them a few times during the build, rather than fitting once and for all.
  11. On a brighter note, I believe Lewis will be awarded his Knighthood tomorrow by a member of the Royal Family, something Max cannot achieve!
  12. Evening all, Roy had two P2's. As T-b-g just said, the K's one, 60993, Roy built, or actually rebuilt as it originally belonged to "Chippy", a long time friend of Roy's who built quite a few of the baseboards for Retford. When Chippy passed away, Roy completed it, and it had another rebuild later when it needed a new gearbox. The other P2, Cock of the North, was the Hornby version, converted by me and also painted in BR green by Geoff Kent. And quite right T-b-g, my P2 was also a Hornby conversion painted in BR blue. I still have that stashed somewhere! Pete
  13. Good afternoon Tony, I agree totally with Cctransuk above. Your Engineers train looks very much Eastern Region flavour in my opinion too, and it is something unique that you built, so why remove it? If someone can provide photographic evidence of something completely different, then perhaps fair enough to remove. I'm fairly confident I know what Mr Jackson may well have said to Mt Headstock's contribution! Pete
  14. Fully agree with John, well worth the journey! Pete
  15. Had no problems adjusting the J27 pickups to EM, but agree you should take care doing any adjustment of them.
  16. Same answer from me. Have found it a common problem with Markits EM axles....but as t-b-g says, an easy fix with a shim washer, either home made, or as suggested, a commercial product. 247 Developments do a nice little fret of such washers, although they have marketed them for a 00 purpose, but they do the job on the EM axles nicely. Pete
  17. Picked my copy up today and looks like another interesting issue.
  18. I ordered a couple of gearboxes around 4pm, no problem. Have since had acknowledgement e mail too. The site needs an up to date web browser though I found.
  19. Go on Tony (t-b-g), scratchbuild one! You know you can.... It's good fun!! Pete
  20. In a previous posts it was wondered what would have happened if Max's crash had happened in the sprint race. As far as I know, under current regs, he would have not been allowed to drive on race day due to the severity of the impact. As for spare cars, they still exist, albeit in component parts in those huge team transporters!
  21. Judging by the high prices many unbuilt kits sell for on ebay, yes, they would appear to be!!
  22. Nice rivet removal … and EM converted?
  23. Construction wise it will be I would think......but has it got silly 1.5mm axles?!
