  1. The North or Autumn show is now in Wakefield this year!
  2. As one of the "mob" referred to by T-B-G above, I would have to agree that Geoff does go for a lighter shade colour palette and have heard him say on occasion that road surfaces are often portrayed as being rather too dark. Black Lion's roads are a lighter grey, and would suggest that the double page spread picture on pages 84/5 of issue 270 is a more accurate reflection of the layout when viewed in the flesh. If you look carefully behind the railings above the platform, the road pictured there does, in my view, show the colour of the roads more accurately. Looking out of my window, there is an area of tarmac, a drive admittedly, which is around 15 years old which has weathered to a very light colour indeed, and I think Geoff did explain his thoughts on colours very well in the article itself. Whatever your views, it is my opinion that Black Lion Crossing is a stunning creation, by one of the most talented all round modellers currently active.
  3. Yes, did one of these when they came out. Gibsons do a conversion pack for it, and it is straightforward, very similar to most Bachmann 0-6-0's plus the trailing wheelset, which just requires the swapping of the Bachmann wheels for the Gibson ones. The Gibson website has quite a few conversion sheets that should be a good guide.
  4. Heat wasn't too bad on Black Lion Crossing this morning....nice and bright though! Did I see Boris at Rosedale Depots controls around lunchtime? Both he and the layout seemed to be behaving themselves though!
  5. About 2 weeks after the next issue publication date in the mag is on time for MRJ !
  6. Back on line when I looked around half four this afternoon.
  7. Patience dear Porcy, patience!! See you there hopefully. Pete
  8. I did one using Markits wheels on 3mm EM Markits axles some years ago and had no clearance issues inside any part of the body at all.
  9. Thanks Mick, and with Botanic signal box over the road reflected in the window.
  10. That brings back memories! Bobby on point duty in his little podium box! Yes, remember Ken's shop too, off Buckingham Street down Holderness Road. Went there a few times too.
  11. Remember it very well Mick, used to get my copy of Railway Modeller there every month.....as well as TT bits and pieces that I could afford with pocket money back then. Ken was still around too some of the time.
  12. But Barry's situation clearly stated there was no PVA glue involved. I tend to agree with Porcy's hypothesis that it was something in the sticky tape formula producing the same effect as the known PVA problem. I also wonder if in Barry's situation the lead was fully sealed in the side tanks, or whether there was an opening allowing air in. If that makes any difference, I wouldn't know. Pete
  13. Yes, it is Pickering, facing north looking towards where the trout farm used to be.
  14. As far as I know, yes it is, those being the EMGS standards.
  15. Looks an excellent show as usual, just sorry I cannot be there this year, as am at Middlesbrough Show with South Pelaw the same weekend. Pete Hill
  16. Yes, it would be, having recently arrived from Woodhams yard in Barry.
  17. Look on the bright side, at least parking is free!!
  18. Hi Mike, I got round the centre crankpin being rather short problem by buying some countersunk M1 or 14BA (cannot remember which) screws that are longer than those supplied by Alan Gibsons. The Gibson crankpin screws are M1, but 14BA is almost identical thread wise, and works just as well with the Gibson crankpin nuts. Use the long crankpin bush as normal, and if more bush area is needed, use a short one the other way round to give greater bearing area, they can always be shortened a tad if the combination of the two together is too great. I seem to remember using Ebay to source them, but presumably there are other sources easily found. Pete
  19. An alternative would be to use correct Lima axle length wheels. Alan Gibson does a range of wagon and carriage wheels on Lima length axles, might not be in the catalogue, but give Colin Seymour a ring or email for details.
  20. Thanks for posting the pictures on this thread.....brings back memories ! More please if you can.
  21. Our blog http://southpelawem.blogspot.com/ has been updated today by Martin. Pete
  22. Certainly was a grand day out!
  23. I second that suggestion!!
  24. As others have said, an excellent day out. Thanks to the borders group for organising a very good event indeed. And congratulations Paul on your well deserved competition success. Pete
