  1. will it all be painted and scenically finished in 8 hours then?
  2. Surely that depends on what area you're coming from!? From Kent I always drive up to Betws-y-Coed and then head down the A470 and follow the FR along.
  3. Andy, i see from your status you've been pressing rivets, have you heard of the Archers transfers? Very useful and time and mental state saving!

  4. I agree, there are plenty of standard gauge manufacturers out there, it would be nice for us to stay 'on brand' by keeping to narrow gauge prototypes.
  5. As a permanent range I'd say slim as it's rather divergent from the narrow gauge theme we're focussing on. If you want something specific drop us a line and we can see how do-able it is as a one off.
  6. Recently a few of us have banded together and begun to offer a custom name plate etching service for narrow gauge modellers. The following styles are currently available: - sans-serif type with rounded corners to the plate - sans-serif lower case (type size depends if there are any letters with descenders in the name) - "Hunslet" style sans-serif with thicker lettering and thinner surround - serif type with "GWR style" rounded ends - serif type with square ends These are 2mm high as standard and suitable for OO9 but we would be willing to discuss other styles or sizes too. The 3mm styles show have been done for O9 and smaller locos in O16.5 Length obviously varies with the length of the name. To give an example a 6 character sans-serif plate is 9.4mm long, an 8 character serif plate is 13.5mm. Any length and text is possible but bear in mind how big (or not) OO9 locos are! We can advise how long a particular name works out at. The price is currently £4 per pair inc. UK postage, regardless of length. Once we have a measure of production costs prices may change (hopefully downwards). The most efficient way to do this will be to get a reasonable sized batch together and etch them all in one go so there may be a wait until a big enough set is gathered. The pricing structure offers a better deal for larger orders: 1 - 2 pairs - £4.00 each 3 - 5 pairs - £3.50 each 6 - 9 pairs - £3.00 each 10+ pairs - £2.50 each As well as the custom work which is ongoing, we can offer a set of 3 pairs of works plates for OO9. They are all representative of typical plates, although one pair is Hunslet style with legible 'Leeds' text in the centre (so this could also suffice for other Leeds manufacturers). These are £3 each including UK postage. Orders can be placed at - Narrow Planet nameplates Examples of our plates already in use on customer's models are on the above website. The service is currently run on a batch basis and payment will be requested at the time each batch goes to the etcher. There is an indicator on our website to show how close the latest batch is to going off for etching. Please feel free to circulate the www.narrowplanet.co.uk URL to anyone else you think might be interested. Also in the pipeline are some 009 fishplates
  7. I've been experimenting with sound on an N gauge mallet chassis recently. Initially is seemed like a great idea, but the more i listened to it the more it just sounds wrong and not accurate enough for my liking so I'm giving it a miss. I do think that diesels are far better served than steam as far as sound goes. It is fun being able to blow the whistle/horn - that really appeals to my inner 8 year old!
  8. And mine. Far too many blue diesels on this place... when will people learn!

  9. They're like biscuit tins... soulless boxes

  10. Puts a lot of the others to shame, Chris. You should be proud!
  11. This is looking great! I've always liked the stations on the West Highland Line, and now i've managed to create an excuse to build one on my new narrow gauge layout. It will be to be a 2/3 size one probably but your thread will be very useful to read through before I begin! Keep up the good work!
  12. Glad to have found this thread again, I was wondering where it had gotten to... This layout has real atmosphere! Superb work! B)
  13. One i heard from Billy Connolly at the Apollo last night: There's a married couple living in a remote cottage who are asleep on a stormy night. Suddenly there is a massive bolt of lightning and a boom of thunder, a stranger knocks walks up their path and wakes the couple with some incessant banging on their door. The wife says to the husband "can you go and see who that is?" So the husband begrudgingly gets out of bed and walks down to the door. "Hello?" he says to the stranger... The stranger replies "can you give me a push please?" The husband can't be bothered with the hassle and slams the door on the man and trudges back up to bed. When his wife asks why he didn't help the guy she makes him feel guilty about the time when they were on holiday and had to ask a local for a push when their car broke down. The man remembers this and feels a pang of guilt, so he puts some clothes on and heads downstairs. He heads out of the front door and cries out "WHERE'S THE MAN THAT NEEDS A PUSH?" Seconds later the reply comes... 'I'M OVER HERE ON THE SWING!" There were plenty of others that made me absolutely cry with laughter, but unfortunately due to profanity I can't repeat them
  14. Hey Steve, i've put a piccie of the loco on my blogger blog rather than on here: http://portncailliche.blogspot.com I was going to wait til i got building it to post on here as I have a cunning plan for an alternative to etching now...

  15. I've been considering a standard gauge layout for a while and would like to do something industrial, i've been tempted by this kit for some time. Looking forward to seeing this progress!
  16. Brilliant, if you had a Roundhouse steam loco you could melt your way round too!
  17. We've pondered it for 3 years now...! I'm up for it, just need someone to make a decision as to when and where, but this late I can predict what the outcome will be... Maybe we should have a new years meet up instead?
  18. Idea for a new TV show... ###### my layout! Seriously though, I like that, very original!
  19. It's too heavy in places where the white is more bold. The less dense areas look better.
  20. The backscene brings this to life, it looks great! Not that it didn't before... Your scenery is superb.
  21. Pub! Where's the new layout?

  22. I was beginning to think we'd let Spoonerisms die... glad to see you've not given up! I'll add some more of my own pics soon. I found these pics of yours really inspiring, but NO, I don't need a Welsh quarry layout
  23. Absolutely! I've got a layout built on an ironing board, that takes about 5 mins to set up too... It's great for exhibitions, 5 mins then I can have a quick wander before the show starts!
