  1. They've already got more than enough Seagulls in Cleethorpes. Just park your car for a while and it's obvious.
  2. I don't think in EM that suspension is a requirement as the tolerances, flanges etc are very similar to OO FS but it is easy to put the rocking unit in for EM. Mostly in EM you can get the clearance on the axle guards by removing a little material from the inside of the axle guards, P4 needs more space to allow for the suspension movement. The pivoting is normally for going round tight set track curves but you have relatively large radius pointwork. Good job with the printed units. The black has toned the track down nicely, have you decided on the ballasting yet?
  3. Go left field, so the 4-4-0 L's for me as well.
  4. Has to be the 3F, meets the requirements and was the backbone of much of the day to day work.
  5. J15 for me as it was long lived and never really changed so as spartan as they come, must have been "exciting" running tender first into a gale blowing from the North sea.
  6. Unlike me I'm with the present crowd on this one, J36.
  7. 02 for me despite a soft spot for the J38, the 02 was a great, hardworking engine.
  8. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2750-Legend-of-a-Locomotive-by-H-C-Webster-illus-R-B-Way-2nd-Edition-Aug-2016/131990829108?epid=26043608934&hash=item1ebb443834:g:WU8AAOSwHMJYGdgd More than 10 copies available £16.99 plus postage.
  9. So is it the V2 or the J39? On balance the V2 as it did virtually everything, very well and was much liked for its abilities, so that is why it won for me.
  10. A3 for me and bizarrely with the German deflectors as I really think they look great, odd and not popular I know but still my choice.
  11. Really effective layout which really catches the look and feel of the time, your selection of stock is superb and very effective, very well done. I look forward to seeing it in the real world when it is next out and about.
  12. Currently going against what I expected to be the norm but which isn't currently, another vote for the A2, well up to the job it ended up doing.
  13. Continuing my voting for freight engines, even ones with a touch of occasional glamour, has to be the 9F, fitting end to the freight engine design, more flexible and better than it should have been.
  14. That's what I meant but make the new sidings longer, each one at least as long as the headhunt they come off so that you can get a minimum of as many wagons + loco in the sidings as the headhunt will take, more length just increases the number of shunts to fill/empty them.
  15. 01 for this poll did the job, well.
  16. I was thinking as in the first plan but with the sidings more towards the front of the layout , the 08 could stay in the headhunt to the right and both loaded and empty wagons could be in the 2 new sidings. The wagons could be worked individually or in small numbers for unloading/loading and then assembled into the other existing siding ready for the Big engine to remove. It certainly gives scope for more shunt moves, and plenty of running round. I'm sure there are people with more prototype knowledge but essentially my idea is to have fun and get the most moves with a few wagons. you could try the moves without the track just to get the idea.
  17. I like what you have done up to now and the concept does show potential for shunting. Looking at the other treads you started it seems that the idea of a kick back siding didn't happen but the storage area is quite small for the business as the major part of track is running lines. I think I would consider a kick back siding from close to the 3 way splitting into 2 storage sidings and by having the turnout close to the 3 way it still leaves a head shunt to shunt the wagons in and out, this would complicate the shunting and allow much more wagon storage which enhances the chance to complicate things. I would also consider if you intend to have a works shunter to shuffle the wagons when the Big Railway engines aren't there as it would need some storage area when they return. Keep it up and ask away, I'm sure that you will get replies as there is always someone who knows the answers.
  18. Has to be the B1 for me, let the discussion begin.
  19. Has to be the A2/3 for me, the pity about Thompson was that times and resources were against him but he remains an enigma even to the present time and he didn't manage to build just one great class of passenger locomotive even though some managed to be there at the end of steam..
  20. Only 1 choice for me and it seems just about everyone else agrees today, Black 5.
  21. I have watched the saga about the class 25 unfold and I'm frankly amazed, I can't imagine what sort of pleasure someone gets from exhibiting their supposed moral superiority over what is a very nice piece of work by another modeller. I always thought that discretion was the better part of valour and best to keep your thoughts to yourself if they are likely to upset/annoy someone else just to boost your own fragile ego. I do wonder what drives someone to do that, do they wake in the morning determined to spoil someones day? Anyway, I have watched this layout grow and develop which has proved inspirational and I look forward to seeing the next steps. The class 25s both look excellent to me and the Bachmann mechanism is a very smooth and effective unit certainly one of my best and it has travelled a long way in its life. I just want to say thanks to Re6/6 and the good Captain for showing their excellent work, it is top drawer.
  22. Duchesses for this vote, big, impressive and capable what's not to like? Still have my ex-3 rail now 2 rail Duchess of Montrose, which travelled miles on the club layout after it was converted, packed away somewhere. Must have a look around and find it sometime.
