Great layout which manages the trick of looking far larger than it is due to I imagine much thought being put into its construction, well deserved feature and a pleasure to read. The photos are excellent and show the layout very well indeed.

Older Inspirational Layouts
jollysmart replied to New Haven Neil's topic in Modelling musings & miscellany
I have seen a video which tells the way that the locals pronounce it, min-ories, not minor-ies, if that helps? I alway pronounced it as min-ories but it was nice to have it confirmed. -
I drove a few identical to that one some in the amazing yellow and previously ridden in several more as a child, just said Lincoln on the side instead of Norwich, they were actually better than the contemporary Anglia vans and their replacement Vauxhall HA vans.

Doug Hewson is the large scale wagon and ground level railway one, 3H mouldings were based in his garage in North Kelsey, Lincs at that time. Doug was a talented modeller, I remember him building a fully sprung 8F on 0 gauge around then and he was an experienced senior engineer .

If I remember correctly the Coke hoppers were made by Three Aitch expressly for Roy as he needed several trains worth of them at the time for Gainsborough Central. Roy showed me the new moulds when they arrived and I'm fairly sure they were very expensive, due to their intricacy, compared to the other Three Aitch moulds for the 0 gauge wagons they were using at the time. So mid 70's is correct.

I have to agree with you about Doctor Allen, his photographs beautifully illustrate the East Anglian railway just on the cusp of modernisation or complete closure with the last gasp of steam in a setting that hadn't changed substantially in decades. They certainly drove my liking for the area and it's complex railway history. My bookcase content is also very like yours. I do like the colour palette that you use on Upbech it captures the overall look very well and has given it great character, I really do enjoy your photos of the layout and stock.

Obviously significant levels of proof will be required.

David, 37242 looks absolutely superb, you've made a cracking job of it as it has the presence and looks of a working 37 now. Top job.

I can see them now.

Level crossing stupidity...

Certainly not uncommon in Lincoln centre. -
Level crossing stupidity...
jollysmart replied to Katier's topic in UK Prototype Discussions (not questions!)
Having crossed and recrossed that crossing numerous times per week in the 30 years I worked in Lincoln centre I can say with certainty that the stupidity at this crossing isn't limited to uni term times. It was a literally daily experience to see people vaulting over the closed gates or starting to run across as the barriers lowered to head height and then limboing under the second barrier as it came down. Wasting time is much more important than potential loss of your life. -
Grimsby, Immingham and surrounding area

Different loco ownership to what I have previously seen on these workings. 15/9/22 at Cleethorpes. Excuse the poor phone photo.
