  1. Just a quickie... Did Nimbus retain its double wipers at both ends until withdrawal? Thanks.
  2. So what we all need to know, Jeff, is whether the Moon is really made of cheese. I think we should be told...
  3. Think I've got all the Mk1s I'll ever need from that "Build Your Model Railway" promotion where you could get them for a couple of ££.
  4. Shouldn't the blue 46 have its bodyside footsteps plated over?
  5. Confession time. I once wrote, in my spotting book, some very disparaging comments about an old steam loco that I'd seen passing (many times) through Spondon, but was very enthusiastic about copping a new Brush 4 running from Loughborough to Derby. Never quite got my priorities right...
  6. I think a 4F was always a 4F, and an 8F an 8F. (From someone born and bred in Derby...)
  7. It is what it is... I'm probably not in any of their metrics for making a purchase anyway.
  8. Is today Wednesday? Yours confused...
  9. My two Airfix ones are still very good runners. They were a revelation when they came out 40+ years ago...
  10. i was thinking more RTR. If obscure one-off prototypes are produced, why not a large class covering a wide period - both steam/diesel eras.
  11. Some weird and wonderful prototypes have been made by model manufacturers over the years. Indeed, some very weird and not-so-wonderful prototypes have also appeared in model form. But one class of loco that seems to have been ignored is the jackshaft-drive LMS 0-6-0 diesel shunters. I wonder why?
  12. On a more general note, I feel there is a gap in the model market for a range of smaller-diameter turntables. A 60ft one was very common on the LMS, for example, whilst 55ft was common in some locations too. Surely gone are the days of 70ft plus Tri-ang turntables, where one would aim your loco and hope it'd stop somewhere on the turntable...
  13. If you can't lift the pointwork, or feel that the sleeper base will shatter, then another way might be to cut out the point in situ, then skim down the baseboard from the underside. I used thismethod to recover some old track for my "Shardlow" layout.
  14. When I was but a young lad, we'd walk to the Baseball Ground and watch DCFC on a Saturday. The games rarely, if ever, went on past 4.40/4.45 pm. Now most matches don't appear to finish until well after 5pm.
  15. Suppose we are lucky. It's inside our local shop. They also take Evri parcels now, which is handy.
  16. Good job my mind is still razor sharp... Was walking to our local post office to return a parcel. Was down the road when I realised I'd forgotten to actually bring said parcel with me. As I say, good job my mind is still razor sharp...
  17. We went for a walk this morning. Some 3,000 steps from our front door we find this... It's purported to be one of the most decorated ----way bridges in the country. It once carried the main London to Weymouth line.
  18. Red sky at night, shepherds delight, Red sky in the morning, Shepherd's Bush. The view from our back window about an hour ago across Dorset...
  19. Sat in the garden in the sunshine this afternoon, reading Robert Harris' Act of Oblivion.
  20. Nidge, I'd say the photo is c1971/2 as Warships were still on frontline service in the late 60s. Also the coaches look like Mk2bs (with the yellow destination panels that were used around that time). The Thousand has a "blue feel" about it - can't explain why though. Edit - ignore my remark about Warships - didn't realise this was on the South Wales mainline.
