Western Identification Sought
Peter Kazmierczak replied to Andy Kirkham's topic in Diesel Hydraulic Group
Nidge, I'd say the photo is c1971/2 as Warships were still on frontline service in the late 60s. Also the coaches look like Mk2bs (with the yellow destination panels that were used around that time). The Thousand has a "blue feel" about it - can't explain why though. Edit - ignore my remark about Warships - didn't realise this was on the South Wales mainline. -

A pair of 455s (5858 leading, with 5868 out of shot at the rear) try to brighten-up a very dark, dull and misty Branksome this lunchtime, on a Wimbledon Park to Bournemouth stock move. The grapevine suggests that 5858 might be painted in rail blue/grey... Who knows? -

Kilby Bridge came straight to my mind, before I read the other posts. The 20s are on the down goods. -
Rather a three-quarters shot, but Cross Country are not seen at Westbury on a daily basis. Though with Bristol West closed this week, there have been diverts via Bath and Westbury everyday. Here the 0805 Edinburgh - Plymouth approaches the station formed of 221131 + 220023.

The second 66 built was stabled by the DB accommodation block at Westbury this afternoon. Those eagle-eyed amongst you may spot 59003 hiding somewhere in the picture... -

Very impressed with those buildings; top notch modelling. When I taught in the Peak District, I once took my class to the National Stone Centre, where we tried our hand at stone walling. I wonder if our efforts are still standing?

And remember that APT-P also had prefixes to their numbers...

David's comments about Shipstones Ales in Nottm, reminded me that some of the locals would replace the "p" of Shipstones with the 20th letter of the alphabet...

Has anyone watched the new afternoon quiz show, Jeopardy, hosted by Stephen Fry?

Had a strange dream last night about trolleybuses in Derby... Most odd. Our friend's dog has arrived for her stay with us. Took Seren for a short walk - she's fast asleep now. Even someone coming to the front door didn't rouse her. Must've tired her out; she is 14 though.

I feel that manufacturers need to get the bodywork proportions correct. It's easy to add finer details if one wants to, but if the bodywork is wrong... Just thinking about a "Peak" that was released a year or so back where the cab door was flat when it should've had a curve towards the top. No way to correct that.

I don't think dark forces are trying to kill off our hobby. However, I do suffer from another fear; apart from opening my wallet... Models seem to be so finely detailed, containing more electronics than the Apollo 11 capsule, that I'd be loathe to tinker/detail/alter/even renumber anything I bought new. The only stuff I now buy is secondhand/pre-owned or whatever is the latest phrase used. I limit my spending to £5 a wagon, £10 a coach and £50 a loco tops. So if I do make a mess with detailing, then it's not the end of the world.

We will be having a friend's Collie for a couple of weeks. She's quite an old girl, so hopefully won't want too lengthy walks. Unlike when we had our one-year-old maniac Collie, Ace, who was more energetic and intelligent than either of us...
