  1. Hi Chris, Thanks for the comprehensive list - much appreciated! Now - I'm about to go for this one and it will be my first full 2mm chassis build since 1977! All my other stuff has been conversions with replacement wheelsets. How things have changed - for the better of course! Anyway, before I order the bits - I have questions. 1 - Can the new chassis be used under the current Farish body? 2 - Looking at the gears in the instructions I am confused as to which gears I need to get. I want to have this model run as slowly as possible as it will be the main loco in a yard model with lots of wagon shuffling. Hopefully there are answers to my queries. Phil H
  2. Hi all, I came across this photo some time ago and kept it as this is one of the coaches I want to model. Having asked in other places it could not be identified positively, but, as Flood says - it is likely to be 9000. Thanks Phil H
  3. Hi Paul, Anything more to report on this concept? I have a query from one of the guys I make stuff for and he is thinking to create a layout using the standards as he need to be able to put up and take down as a regular task. Thanks Phil H
  4. Hi Graeme, Not gone any further as I need to do proper NCB tipper bodies. That all got put on hold after my heart attack. However, I was looking at the body you were doing at Ayr and thinking they were as near to what I want as possible. What shows are you at over the next few weeks? I can visit Lady Victoria and have a look in the archive to see if the depot addresses are listed? Thanks Phil H
  5. Hi Legend, He uses Abe Books as his direct sales handler. Thanks Phil H
  6. Hi Legend, I went to buy this book and was too late - sold out at the show. Douglas said he has more copies though and either to buy direct or when I see him at the next show. Thanks Phil H
  7. Hi all, Another good exhibition by the Ayr MRG team - Thanks and well done! NGS stand at the show was busy quite often with a lot of interested parties in the NEW NGS in Scotland - Forth and Clyde Area Group. Hopefully the interest shown will result in more members of the NGS taking an active part in the group activities. Speaking of which.... Next event is Scale Scotland at BT Murrayfield this coming Saturday. Whilst this is a military modelling event - we get a lot of interest in the N Gauge stuff I take and show. Thanks Phil H
  8. Hi Rodders, I'll see you at Ayr anyway... That printer I gave you will print onto decal film and give a good result.. So - if you have a full side on view you could make your own Algeco decal as it is yellow on black (I think?). I've just started on these in N though! Not much progress though except for gathering info. Thanks Phil H
  9. Hi all, Good issue - in my opinion one of the best since the mag was created. Good to see exposure of both 2FS and N as well. Just a shame the builder of the NGS Loriot kit didn't ask about decals as that would have made the article event better. I'm sure several of us on here would have jumped in and supplied what was needed. Thanks Phil H
  10. Hi Stan, I became aware there were errors in the kit as a result of building them, but It's only noticable if you are familiar with the real things and no one ever noticed it on the ones I built. Thanks Phil H
  11. Hi Tom, You are correct - solenoids are out. They will tear the operating mechanism apart. The way forwards is either slow motion things like tortoise or servo control as you can set the travel limit with both of these options. The easiset way is wire in tube with an omega loop to take up the excess travel. Thanks Phil H
  12. Hi Dave, I've built 2 of these over the time since they were first released. One for myself and one for someone who ran scared after looking at the kit in the box. Looking back I see that I charged £100 for building it and that was in 1979! It sounds like you have a different bogie in the kit to what they used to be as I found the bogie to be the more accurata part of the kit. The problem with the coach body is the same as it always was - it includes part of the body that should be a part of the loco. As you have had similar thoughts to how this can be resolved to my method - keep on with it! Cut off the offending portion and create your own which looks more like it should. I remember the review in the L&Y Society magazine and found myself almost crying at it as I couldn't understand how they wrote it up to make it sound so good. Thanks Phil H ps - I sold the one I did for myself in 1989 and thought I was lucky to get £100 for it.
  13. Hi Tom, If you can solder droppers to track - then you can build Waynes fiNetrax pointwork. There is no soldering other than to do the droppers for the crossing and toes of the points. The chairs all have a peg that fits into the hole in the leeper and this in turn sets the gauge correctly. I've now built 28 of the wooden sleeper turnouts and got the time taken down to about 2 hours each, built, wires attached, ready to lay. You have to work out how you want to operate them and that is best done before laying any track or points. Thanks Phil H
  14. Hi Brack, You learn something new every day! There is a pdf on the website that shows both Std and Narrow gauge on the map, but it's a bit small and not a hi-res photo. Thanks Phil H
  15. IHi there, I thought the stock went to Ravensglass and Eskdale? Thanks Phil H
  16. Hi all, I've looked at this in the past and modelled 5374 in post TOPS period. Extract from one of my sources that I used... "During 1970 work commenced on converting 24 Class 27s for use on the Glasgow - Edinburgh push-pull service. All of the batch selected were boiler equipped, with the exception of 5374, which was then fitted with a Stone-Vapor boiler. Fuel capacity was increased from 500 gallons to 685 gallons. The locomotives would be renumber to 27101 - 27124." Extract from Derby Sulzers website https://www.derbysulzers.com/ Thanks Phil H
  17. Hi all, I've looked at this site in the past. 18. Hi all, Yes - McLaren Models have gone to an 'online shop' only. They were at Falkirk yesterday - just as well seeing as they are the organisers. Thanks Phil H
  19. Hi Steve, You are correct - they are not the same. The new Klear is supposed to have the same properties as the old Klear. I find this is not correct - it behaves differently. Apparently the new Klear is a UK only product and you can buy the old Klear in Europe for as little as £2.00 per bottle. I am on my last bottle of the old stuff. Thanks Phil H

  22. HI all, I'm about to start on a project to build some of these. From other places I have information and a photo or two. But - I need more! The wagons in question are: Tops code FGB (then later FJB) 610999 / 602206 / 602331 which were all converted from inner wagons. Anyone know of more photos of these wagons? Thanks Phil H
