LRC consists were pretty boring uniform. The locos were designed for a short train (was it 4 cars?) and longer ones were to be topped and tailed. Until the recent fancy livery for business class, the paint schemes were uniform and the business class coaches looked pretty much like the ones for real people. I always felt that there was a tendancy to run train sets as far as possible before turning them.

Devil's Advocate: to compare it to Rapido's Canadian, The Canadian has been in service for about 60 years There have been 3 main paint schemes, all pretty simple (until recently) The car structure has been unchanged until the current rebuildings The cars have run in other trains, as have the locos. The train does run through a country with a population comparable to London (well, it was when I was in school).

On the same trip, we were travelling on a first class BritRail pass, as it was barely more expensive than second. My uncle claimed that he'd never known anyone who travelled first before. At the same time, his daughter went on a student trip to Germany. They didn't hear from her for two weeks. When she got back, her letters started to arrive as she'd posted them at the cheapest rate possible.

My uncle was taking us around Scotland and we arrived at Stirling Castle. He went to the ticket booth and returned to the car. "They want twa pund tae get in there!.Ach, ye've seen Edinburgh Castle; it's bigger and it's frreee!" (this was back in 76; I may have the price wrong)

Anyone who's used a GPS that suddenly says "recalculating" as you follow her instructions will wait a long time before buying something like that. Any chance that they'll build separate road systems so that they won't come anywhere near me?

I use a Centerline track cleaning car which is common in North America. I use Aero fluid in it. The car is a metal frame with a knurled brass roller in it. A strip of J-cloth is wrapped around the roller and soaked in fluid, then the car is hauled around the layout. Mine develops a pair of black streaks. Some guys, richer than me, follow it with a dry car. I've also used the Woodland Scenics kit which is a manual operation.

Lionel O gauge (doing business as O27) was 13.5" radius -- over the outside of the sleepers, apparently. And Hornby O has "one foot radius".

Thank you, SS, now I'll be able to put mine back in the box. I find that the Hornby issue runs better than the Dapol; I think it's the wheels. How much effort is required to adapt this car to a 12-wheel sleeper? (new can of worms) -

I heard it once on the radio. The story is that Sullivan's music providers (library?) had a flood and all the parts were lost. It was recreated from the memories of the last players that had played it and a few musicians who had copied bits of for themselves. Edit: Wikipedia says that it was a fire a Chappell's and the reconstruction was by Sir Charles Mackerras.

Sorry that Jason missed it when it happened. Their right to win it ever again was bargained away to achieve the free trade agreement. Apparently he’s given up on seeing the Blue Jays win the World Series so wants to devote himself to something that might actually be a success.

I think the term "classical music" is like the term "train". On here, we know that a train needs marker lights at both ends, otherwise it's just a lot of cars. The layman calls anything on rails a train. Classical music is fairly precisely defined, especially if you're writing music exams. But the layman uses it for a much wider range.
