  1. Mine was pulling 0.15amps (as showing on a Helmsman 5 amp controller) last night with the five wagons in tow, regardless of speed. I will be asking Digitrains if they have any 'inside knowledge' as to best type to use but I would think that an OO decoder or controller should suffice. cheers Mike
  2. Hi all, took mine down to the Club last night, swapped the coupling rods around and onto the track and ran very well at all speeds, then coupled up to five wagons and again very good steady, non-jerking running. Will be ordering a Zimo 21 pin sound decoder today. cheers Mike
  3. Hi all, I have contacted Dapol regarding the lack of any information sheet in the box and received a reply within the hour with an attachment - 'Maintenance and DCC decoder installation sheet' -which should have been in the box, together with a 24 month warranty (also attached to the email). I also enquired about how the crankpins were fitted to the wheels and will have to wait for a reply from the Technical Manager who is away at present. There is a 21 pin board fitted with a DC 'blanking plate' o fitting a decoder should be straightforward. cheers Mike
  4. One of the pitfalls of having equal spacing of the wheelbase Mine are also 'back to front' and I think that before I try and sort it out myself, I will contact Dapol to ask how the crankpins are fitted to the wheels I do not wish to go down a re-quartering road. Otherwise I am very pleased with it. cheers Mike
  5. The photo in post #431 was taken at Havant in 1937 so the condensing pipes were removed after that date and when it received it's unlined black livery. The loco was withdrawn in 1951 in plain black livery with British Railways on the tanks and numbered 32644 all in sunshine lettering. I spoke to Richard Webster at Kettering earlier this year about the pipes and he said that it was too late too either add them or renumber the loco to suit the model configuration. I have only found a photo of I think, 2636 which complies. Either way, mine will be with me today and will stay 'as is', but I am hoping to rename my sound fitted 'Thames' to 'Millwall' when that arrives next month. cheers Mike
  6. Hi Jon, beats working every time! cheers Mike
  7. Hi Jintyman, we would be only too pleased to see you and anyone else there - Sunday 9th August The Odyssey Centre Corporation Road Birkenhead, CH41 1HB Admission £2, ample free parking and light refreshments 13.00 to 17.00 further details from our Secretary - email: j.elliott@sky.com cheers and many thanks for the comments Mike
  8. Hi Jon, we look forward to seeing you there again. cheers Mike
  9. Hi Steve, Glad you are pleased with the results, I'll be back for something different soon. cheers Mike
  10. Hi Jon, yes, the Sidelines kits are very good, pity Malcolm does not do any Southern coaches. Many thanks for your comments, hope to see you at the Wirral O Gauge Group Open Day at The Odyssey Centre in Birkenhead on 9th August. cheers Mike
  11. Hi all, at long last I am back in the workshop and have just finished these two ex LMS D2046 Inspection Saloons built from Sidelines kits with the bodies finished with cellulose paint and the chassis weathered with Railmatch frame dirt and Tamyia powders etc. finished with a mixture of HMRS and Railtec transfers and needless to say, trackplans on all of the flat surfaces. cheers Mike
  12. Hi Phil, great job on the weathering- will you be adding any 'chalk markings'? cheers Mike
  13. Hi Brian, many thanks for posting the progress pictures, they will be a great help when I start mine,(should be with me sometime this coming week). On the last but one photo in your last post - showing the brake pull rod, could you show do a picture showing how the rod fixes to the front beam - I am thinking ahead t doing a similar fixing as you have done for the frame sides to the main bogie body. cheers Mike
  14. Hi Alan, many thanks for posting that information, I had seen the book but could not remember the title. I have been informed by Richard Webster that it is too late to incorporate the pipe onto 2644, my feeling is that there might now be a change of number to suit the configuration. I shall be buying 2644, remove the vent pipes and repaint it in plain black with sunshine lettering as I think it is portrayed in Tom Middlemass's book, as I have already done on a San Cheng model, using 4mm scale Fox Transfers. cheers Mike
  15. I had a good look at the Terriers at Kettering yesterday and my only comment to Richard Webster was that on 2644, the 'condensing pipe' from the smokebox to the tank (as fitted on the other version) was missing, otherwise, a very good model. I hope that the pipe can be incorporated in the production model. The pipe on 2644 and the tank top vents were removed by the time on Nationalisation, I think that there are pictures of 32644 in plain black livery with British Railways in Sunshine lettering cheers Mike edited to include references to 2644
  16. Hi Mike, many thanks for posting the Hymek with what looks like a Q13 Inspection Saloon, but I cannot place the Saloon livery, it looks almost like Inter-City - I hope that it is as I am building DW80975 in that livery and need an excuse to get a Hymek! Wallet about to get a pounding at the GOG show at Kettering tomorrow. Cheers Mike
  17. Hi Pugsley, the Class B tank wagons - (Esso & Regent anyway) are not numbered but the Departmental one - Waste Oil is numbered - ADB999074. My question is - what about the little valve that is fitted at one end of the tanks - why have they not modelled that? and has anybody any thoughts as to a source for them? Nice models though. cheers Mike
  18. DM45029 in EWS livery had 30mph as the propelled speed restriction, while 45030 (in it's retro LMS livery) stated 50mph. cheers Mike
  19. Hi all, I think that the saloon being propelled by 45025 is in fact one of the BR late 1950s build Diag (1/550?) as it appears to have the three identical windows with radius corners as opposed to the LMS Diag D2046 centre droplight square framing and therefore it would not be correct to apply the plain blue livery to a Bachmann model. I have only seen the plain blue livery on the non D2046 versions - as per Paul Bartlett's website. cheers Mike
  20. Hi Rick, yes, but I have 'cut and shuffled' the sides to the revised diagram for the Inspection Saloon, but the window style is the correct version - post 1939 revisions. cheers Mike
  21. Hi, Rick, I'm doing a similar conversion as you, but in 7mm and using the JLTRT H33 (with modified window openings) kit as the 'basis' of to produce my model of the S&T Inspection Saloon. I attach a photo of a window on the preserved Inspection Saloon and a set showing the slow progress of the conversion of the sides, which may be of help to you. cheers Mike
  22. Hi all, what is the recommended 'Car Match' aerosol for late DMU green please? or does anybody know the BS number for the green? cheers Mike
  23. Hi Ray, I built one of these a few years ago and it was fairly straightforward. The quality of the whitemetal castings is very good and takes 70 degree low melt solder well (used a 60W iron set at 200 degrees) the brass chassis is thicker than the usual etched type and would benefit from using a large wattage iron or even an RSU. Before and after weathering photos attached. cheers Mike
  24. Hi Daniel, many thanks for your suggestions, especially regarding the 33. The wheels and track are very clean, running on the Club layout is not allowed until wheels have been inspected and the track is cleaned every week. I shall check the pick-ups and for any loose wires in to/out of, the decoder. cheers Mike
