  1. You might be able to reach 3-4 ft now, but that may not be the case in future years. As to the track design, back to first principles and follow the prototype for your desires location and era. Avoid the temptation to cram in as much track as possible.
  2. Those might be better in the Preservation Scene topic.
  3. The first revenue standard gauge train to the Port of Brisbane since 2017 and the first regular standard gauge trains there since 2005. It followed a light engine test on 10 September.
  4. Occasional Comic Reliefs notwithstanding, I miss those unexpected novelty songs in the charts. Now it's all manufactured stuff. The Funky Gibbon reached #4 in the charts just 3 months after Wombling Merry Christmas reached #2.
  5. "Swimming lesson" isn't the term that comes to mind when I read this...
  6. Even if you went back to 1889 and ensured he was never born it may not have made much difference. As many historians have pointed out, he didn't create the mood in Germany in the 1930s. He took advantage of it. If not him, somebody even more ruthless and calculating might have come to power.
  7. From the country where police did nothing when the Prime Minister was egged in 1917, apparently a pancake is too much. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-09-24/nt-chief-minister-natasha-fyles-assaulted-nightcliff-markets/102895156
  8. Shouldn't that be Henry IV, Part 1 and Henry IV, Part 2?
  9. Potters Bar tunnel, 16/10/1965 during testing between KX, Leeds and Hull.
  10. I looked when this article first came out and most stories were pretty much the same. Probably a rough translation of an announcement in French.
  11. The €49 pass covers unlimited journeys on TER regional services, intercity trains, and possibly even local bus, metro and tram travel. [But not TGV.] https://www.timeout.com/news/france-is-the-latest-european-country-to-launch-a-mega-cheap-rail-pass-091223
  12. My memory of Pablo was an extremely fine powder that was about 50% detergent to make it soluble!
  13. If you're of a certain age you might remember something even worse than International Roast. You may shudder at the word.... Pablo.
  14. I had a quick look through the British Newspaper Archive and there are articles about Michael Bentine opening events at places such as the Great Western Society, NRM and Ruislip Lido Railway as well as the RH&DR from the late 1960s until the early 90s. I had no idea he was involved in railway preservation until this video came up as a random suggestion on YT.
  15. Those cattle wagons are basically containers so the flats can be used at other times as needed. There's another famous location in Victoria where the railway runs down the middle of the main street.
  16. This is from a 1993 episode of Highway. I had no idea that Michael Bentine had been a member since the early days of the railway. And was Spike really driving???
  17. Going into the kits that were used to make Star Wars ships is another kettle of fish, but the short version is there are a LOT of Saturn/Apollo and Harrier bits in them.
  18. Two fascinating videos about the amount of Airfix and similar kits used in making Thunderbirds models.
