  1. Sounds a bit wider than my Railway room for Wharncliffe then. With regard to lighting, I successfully used a tripod at the weekend and changed the white balance in the camera for the fluorescent lamps. I also set the camera into manual mode, which also made a difference. Good luck - But I don't think you need a fancy lighting set-up. Maybe even a couple of halogen lights, but set in such a way to avoid harsh shadows.
  2. Fab Robin, I will keep an eye on this with very keen interest! What sort of size does the layout take up?
  3. Interesting thread, good luck with whatever you decide to do. I have a Lima HST in GWT Merlin livery, which Hornby have not yet done. Nor have they gone the GWT fagpacket green.... Mine no longer has the power and/or inclination to haul a decent set of carriages round the layout, so also needs to get fixed... But like anything else there are higher priorities at the moment.
  4. Great idea! When are you going into production! DCC motorised please!
  5. In which case, try two lamps hidden out of sight, red & white, leading to a fibre optic housed in the lamp. Sorry, best I can suggest.
  6. Can you get a bi-coloured LED? - assuming you are using DCC?
  7. I too have a Heljan Western, also sound fitted with a Howes decoder. Im very happy with it and will not be replacing it..... But I will be getting a Dapol Western, simply to add to the fleet... The idea is that it is an additional loco? Regards
  8. Delivery is now likely to be May....
  9. Dont know how I missed Wencombe, great layout, very evocative. Thank you!
  10. http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/28496-reading-redevelopment/page-12 On Page 11 and 12 there is discussion about Redhill and gatwick stations being expanded, what is all this about? I go through both stations infrequently, but have tried searching on-line about all the work going on up there and apart from the new Signal box / Operations centre and the Thameslink depot have found nothing. So I assume, new Platforms are being built at both stations, but to what purpose? Surely the most productive way of increasing capacity would be to quadruple Haywards Heath to gatwick?
  11. Great thread Ray, I will follow with interest..... as long as it does not delay a certain GWR project!! Have fun!
  12. The detail work at the top of the wall (is it a cornice?) how have you made them? Thanks
  13. Thanks Mike, but if you saw the amount of half finished kits around the layout at the moment, I don't think I can start another one! As for a commission, it's an idea, although I think an expensive one! Maybe Bachmann will release it in March! Thanks for the ideas.
  14. I see the date might have slipped again..... Hattons website now says quarter 2.... I hope this is not going to be the same as the 42xx... I thought they were coming from different factories? Oh well, I'm sure they will be worth the wait.
  15. Any chance of a OO version as well as the N Gauge? I realise the NGS is N !!
  16. I too had missed the layout details back in 2009, so thanks for updating today. Hope to keep up with your progress!
  17. Can't wait to see the tracks going down...... If only there was room for the four track main line and all of the station!!!
  18. Blimey that is quick......
  19. I suspect we will see some Toplights very soon to run behind the new Star !
  20. I will see if i can get some close up shots of the bogies and post on here.... Thanks for the comments
  21. I bought these carriage kits a few years ago and they have lain around needing that final push to see them finished. They probably need less than a weekends work to complete. Remaining tasks are: Glazing; complete transfers; build corridor connections; couplings; I have the 3rd diagram C28 and Brake 3rd diagram D47 Both are 57ft carriages and are the Bars 1 series. Relatively straight forward to build, although the compartment walls needed to be modified to fit inside (they were too big, when coming from the box). The instructions are comprehensive and run into several pages. On another thread there were comments about the bogies being replaced. although mine are the original Slaters ones. The kit is a mix of plastic and brass. This range is now available from Cooper Craft. The 3rd also seems to have a noticeable list, which needs attention!
  22. Sadly I didn't high-jack or get to drive the AEC loco, although saw it on many occasions as a kid. At some point in the 80's I wrote to the Foreman and had a couple of hours being shown around the working BR depot. I remember we drove an 08 and a 121 DMU. Following your thread with interest....
