  1. Both are R2385's, I've lost count of the number of times I've used Winnie as a donor - extra challenge is that the mounting holes for the original Winnie nameplates can't be hidden by the Spitfire nameplates... Thank you Glenn, for pointing this particular client in my direction
  2. Be wery quiet, I've been renaming Bulleids again (R2385 34051 Winston Churchills to be accurate) ... Please point @robmcg in the direction of a wery cold shower Yours Elmer 'Toboldlygo' Fudd
  3. I've had a number of conversations with Ian at Typhoon Legacy. And there's a few other Tempest's on the go and I can remember seeing a pair of Tempest II's in the private hangar on the opposite side of Dunsfold Aerodrome that were recovered from Burma or India.
  4. Then someone had the bright idea to take advantage of the Typhoon's fighter shortcomings and it become the superb ground attack aircraft we all know - so good they named the Eurofighter Typhoon (much to the annoyance of the Germans). With the Tempest, a lot of people ask why the Tempest V - the Tempest was developed to take a multitude of engines, the fifth prototype and first flown was fitted with the Sabre II, which was readily available as production started. Then the II with the Centaurus - the others fell by the wayside.
  5. I do have an aircraft model in production cue, that has actual copper machine guns..
  6. Easy a semi matt clear coat to seal the decals, then a smothering of Flory Dark Dirt Wash, which was cleaned off once dried. The various stains were done with Tamiya Weathering Powders.
  7. I worked on a Firefly & Sea Hawk and got to sit in a Sea Fury & Swordfishes - all the FAA Historic Flight.
  8. Something a bit different a heavy fighter from the early years of WW2 - fantastic concept, let down with crap engines, if only they'd fitted it with Merlin's. Over a year in the making (though technically only took a week to build). Box Art Instructions & Colour Call out. What's in the Box. The Build part 1.. It went together well, just other projects and commissions got in the way. Roll on a year - the build part two (and different workbenches). White Tac Sausage time.. Now Whirlwinds were quite allergic to their paint, so I've tried to recreate it. The final reveal.. TTFN
  9. Something a bit different, the Seafang, the planned replacement for the Seafire - which due to the Jet Age, became an interim (and mostly) forgotten foot note in British Naval aviation history. Then Trumpeter created a kit of it (along with the Spiteful). I've had it my stash for a while and I wanted a quick build.. Box Art What's in the box.. The decals came back to haunt me. The build.. As with most Trumpeter kits, the fit is pretty good, just a few annoying bits (more on that later). First muck up- quoting the wrong shade of Sea Grey - Dark instead of Extra Dark. Soon rectified. Second the out of register and under scale roundels.. Spares from one of my Eduard kits came to the rescue fortunately.. If the wings and undercarriage look familiar - they were used on the Attacker. Into weathering,, All finished. Onwards and upwards to the next build..
  10. Similar - the 'no it's not a P-47D' was actually a clue. It's a Republic P-43B/C Lancer..
  11. Oops where did the time go - well most of it went sitting on the loo (nasty stomach bug). Consequently I had to take things easy, but I managed to get some things done. Seafang, this is finished, not helped by Trumpeter's incorrect scale and googly eyed roundels (fortunately I had spares) - first Aircraft kit finished this year. I also resumed work on a kit I hadn't worked on since May last year.. Yes that is a Westland Whirlwind. I also started another Warbird, but I'm not going to tell you what it is... And no it isn't a P-47D Thunderbolt I've been doing some Railway work, the match truck is on hold temporarily and the AA6 is now in primer to see where clean up is needed. However I finally completed one of my personal projects - another Star with Castle elbow steam pipes.. And finished building a Cambrian Loriot W which a client had started - this will go into paint this week. I will get a blog entry up for the Seafang this week at some point and possibly another update. Until then TTFN.
  12. This is true, he also sent Barnes Wallis scurrying back to Weybridge, when he tried to interfere in Mitchell's design practices. Worth noting to that Mitchell did his apprenticeship at Kerr, Stuart & Company.
  13. A jet did pretty much did have the same undercarriage & wings though As with the Attacker, the Seafang F.32 is a Trumpeter 1/48th Scale Kit.
  14. Due to the rise in tensions caused by fall of the Iron Curtain, the GWR asked the Royal Navy if they could help with some air cover for Brent. They've deployed one their new prototypes to defend the skies from HMS Heron..
