  1. I’ve looked at all the late lasting examples I can think of (the sleeper 67x ones and 635/640) and can’t see any but there were a lot of 47/8 still in LL when first renumbered so a lot for you to trawl through. Crash damaged repairs might throw up the odd one.
  2. Very good news. Just need a 318 to partner them (are the bodyshells similar enough that it may be possible in a few years?)
  3. I have a BEV. With Intelligent Octopus, my best earning is to export 100% as I get 15p/kwh. charging my car only happens overnight and costs 7.5p/kwh. i also fully charge my 8kwh battery storage overnight at 7.5p/kwh. since we fathomed all that out, our daytime imports are practically zero and through winter, we have not really eroded our credit with Octopus.
  4. The OAO application is based on 22x. the Chiltern MK3s aren’t in good condition and very soon need heavy overhaul (expensive). It’s around 10years now since they were fitted with power doors. There are plenty of 125mph DMUs coming into the rental market in the next year or so which should soak up any demand out there. The MK3s can have a nice retirement in Newport (or Mexico / Nigeria).
  5. Really pleased you did as I enjoyed watching (and listening) to them. nice layout by the way
  6. TPE has dropped services that were planned, eg ECML north of Newcastle and post covid and with TRU ongoing, reduced frequency across the core. they have however retained all class 185s. The franchise was bid on the basis of a large number going off lease. TPE has several years of blockades, possessions and other line limitations to contend with and the management (with Rail North and DfT agreement) considered the current fleet mix the best for that period. Be thankful perhaps that DfT hasn’t reallocated the 802s Elsewhere too. Down south sees other issues: brand new 710s in long term store straight from factory brand new 720s in long term store straight from factory huge delays getting 701s into service so most are in store GWR short forming long distance services from London to provide IETs for S West use (alongside Sprinters) after HSTs were withdrawn. Last week a 166 returned to Paddington in place of an IET TfW using 150 & 153s on S Wales to Manchester & Holyhead due to non availability of new 197s infrastructure reliability is bombing as maintenance is cut the whole network is a mess and it’s likely to get worse as more cuts get imposed by HM Treasury.
  7. It’s a flat no from us. Especially for a commercial show set up to make commercial profit. yes it’s our hobby so I don’t seek or ever make a profit from exhibiting. However, as our hobby is used by organisers to make a profit, I shouldn’t be out of pocket. £35pppn really doesn’t provide much choice for a comfortable nights sleep in a city. No mention of how Key model World will reimburse breakfast, lunches & mileage / fuel.
  8. Taken from the current Modern Railways article: Since 2015/16 cumulative financial performance of our main FOCs has been DB Cargo. -£169M DRS. -£15M FL. -£156M GBRF. +£32M Total industry income over 7 years is £7140M. Total industry losses over those 7 years is just over £300M Only GBRF have broken even or made a profit in each of those 7 years. Quite startling but perhaps reflects what is seen out and about. Continual investment and more innovation from GBRF with decent but steady growth. Steady reduction in size for DB. with further changes in our heavy industries looming and the economy not growing, the short term doesn’t look great either.
  9. Also stated that the driver was relieved and did not complete the diagram
  10. Stated elsewhere that the loco hadn’t set back far enough so hadn’t passed the signal before stopping and after changing ends, set off believing an adjacent line signal was for them so technically haven’t passed a signal at danger.
  11. The 47 speed restriction wouldn’t be a NR thing but a WCRC safety case thing, possibly brake block type or wheel profile / tyre thickness related having a 47 on the rear doesn’t mean you have 2 drivers on board the train and with suitable traction / route knowledge and hours available. If you listen to Mssr Smith & Shuttleworth, thee is no money in charters so paying for more drivers than you need seems unlikely. Maybe part of the delay was getting a suitable new driver to come from home to work back south.
  12. Can we offshore the war like we are doing with refugees and carbon emissions and just send a cheque with our love and thanks? Conscription for 18-21yrd olds could just be marketed as paid gap year international travel (who reads the small print about guns, bullets & bombs?) or as it’s the 21st century, let AI fight a virtual war and tell us its outcome - make sure you don’t copy and paste the answer. All a bit 1984….
  13. From reports elsewhere, the points failure was actually due to the class 86 running through and causing the damage due to a driver error whilst shunting back onto the stock. the general late running was apparently due to the 86 having power hiccups whilst running into Euston before it set off with the 47 then having to be left on the rear, just in case. The 47 apparently had a 75mph restriction in place.
  14. The 57/0s in both Freightliner and DRS livery had nameplates mid height as could be regarded as ‘normal’ WCRC do like a high position on their maroon locos though so probably just a Carnforth oddity .
  15. 37608 (Anglia Thunderbird) on Orient Way CS 16-01-2023
  16. I thought that was the real railway until I looked at the second photo. Excellent modelling
  17. Looking at some of my recent photos on work travels round England, your weathering isn’t wrong. A lot of locations have little fresh ballast so it’s then just variations of shade & amount of grime in view you have blended different shades and have some nice changes in tone in that photo. id be happy with what you’ve done. You can blend to less weathering if you have more sections of track to do to add more variety
  18. If too much paint on body side / roof etc then it can be gently removed with a paint remover - there are many on the market or an isopropyl alcohol. This might affect things like loco numbers / names / logos depending on how thick the accident paint is. if you have painted the glazing then you might not need a whole body, just the relevant glazing sprue. Ask the manufacturer nicely for the part and they might have some to hand (they might not though). when weathering, it’s always good to have a cleaning cloth so any overspray etc can be wiped off whilst wet. Acrylic is very easy to remove with warm soapy water before it’s hardened. Enamels can be removed with thinners. Any residues in panel lines / grilles etc is easy to repaint over or can be left as work stained grime.
  19. Wasn’t meant to be patronising, poor language on my part clearly. I’ve dropped (or had dropped by others) various items of stock and scratch built scenery, sometimes at home, sometimes on the exhibition circuit. I’ve never harangued a manufacturer afterwards (nor an exhibition host) for not fixing my problem, I’ve sorted it myself, either self repair or as others have said buying a second hand body / full loco etc. the odd item sends up in the bin. It’s an expensive lesson and damn frustrating at the time but I can’t see how ACC can be at fault and subject to the negative posts they’ve faced on here. if we knew the extent and nature of the damage, I’m sure we’d all have suggestions for recovery
  20. I think you’ve learned a lesson we all have at some point: don't break / ruin your new loco. It’s an expensive thing to do. We cannot expect / demand a manufacturer holds fully finished spare body shells to cater for our clumsiness you could try to sell as ‘spares / repair’ on an auction site to recover some of your loss or you could try and repair. what exactly have you broken to warrant a whole new shell?
  21. The only companies with reg4 exemptions to operate mk1 based rolling stock are listed on the ORR website as: VSOE GSWR (Royal Scotsman) London Underground Riviera Trains - just buffets & a generator car Hastings Diesels NYMR LSL Vintage Trains WCRC https://www.orr.gov.uk/guidance-compliance/rail/health-safety/infrastructure/mark-1-rolling-stock/mark-1-and-hinged-door-exemptions GBRF and DBC are not the owner / operator of the rolling stock.
  22. Back in the 1990s that’s what modelling was about for me. cutting cabs & noses off Lima 37s to switch them between RSH and Vulcan bodies. cutting out grilles on Lima 60s to insert interior details. cutting off lima 156 under frames to add separate part detail creating most DMUs from craftsman brass overlays of Lima 117s great fun unless of feint heart
