  1. I often wave at other drivers.
  2. It's a different branch of the family.
  3. Nettlebed rings a big bell in my memory but I can't remember why!
  4. Maybe it will be draughty - isn't that the bit that holds the kilt down?
  5. Have saved quite a bit of money this morning. Managed to miss some 'unmissable' offers.
  6. Enjoyed the Test Match highlights - what a great debut! 2nd innings should be interesting if it isn't rained off. Don't bother with the boxing - the opponent has lost his fight with the shower.
  7. Our nearest shop is a 12 mile round trip so you are thinking of the 1960s when every village had a shop selling everything including square Lyons Fruit Pies in boxes. The nearest pub is a little further. We used to have a daily bus and a fortnightly library van but the authorities thought this was pampering us so they were cut. The bus only went one way in the morning. To get back required good relations with the driver of the Transit collecting the kids from school. Last year a police car passed through the village. There was speculation for months about the reason but it didn't stop.
  8. I find it strange that one has to make an appointment through a hostile system to be in need of medical attention. I'm sure that the obstacle course at surgeries is partly responsible for 4 hour + waits in A&E. Now that there is a campaign to send us to Boots (other sales outlets are sometimes available) it gives the new young assistants some on the job training. "You have pustules on your what?"
  9. Dd, Our local librarians, doctors receptionists and post office staff are all lovely and helpful! A bit far for me to come, Tony.
  10. With the electric car thing I wonder if development will include replacement 'cells' which can be charged off the vehicle (or carried) while another is in use. Or: Electric roads that move and the cars stand still. Or: 'Trolley Bus' type feeds available to all. Or: Better use of topography where the vehicles are lifted at the start of a downhill run. I hear that a Company in Canada has micro chipped its Employees. A friend has just had a pacemaker fitted. Lots of folk I know have artificial hips etc.,. Flesh seems to be on the way out. Already those with false legs can run within a second or two of Bolt.
  11. I'm more fortunate as I don't need the services except routine flu jabs and similar. However, I'm of the opinion that the Surgery is run for the benefit of their reception and admin staff who train at a Nazi Centre with others from Post Offices and Libraries. The Doctors seem fine.
  12. I happened to read that post first and wondered if Chris was going to a MR Exhibition enforcing a dress code. Thoughts of Chris in urgent need of old clothes in order to fit in.
  13. I had my card stolen by a machine outside a bank. When I went in to point out the theft they informed me that they didn't manage the machine! Pointing out that the machine had their name on it produced .... nothing.
  14. You perhaps should have bunged them a few grand to elope.
  15. Are you feeling better, Tony?
  16. That's taking coals to Newcastle he grovelled.
  17. My first name I share with no one, not a single person in the UK has it. Not good for a school boy in the 1960s I was always picked on for that... Never mind, it was a long time ago, Margaret.
  18. Remember to tell the bank! I recall Montgomery Pendleton Levenhume-Chippendale had similar problems. Very often his messages were not signed with the full Monty.
  19. A good tour, Polly. Did you notice the sparrows at Carrog? They come to hand for crumbs.
  20. Just heard from Debs - great to see her happy face. Good luck to Mr Jones as he starts a challenging experience.
