A friend of mine is Italian - I won't let him make me coffee, I always ask for tea. You could stand a spoon up in his coffee, only drank it once and ended up with an upset stomach 😒 Never have been a coffee lover. Dave

I remember as a boy the Bon Marche in Splott Road, Cardiff (Clothing shop) had a similar system with the cashier in a glass cubicle in the centre of the shop. Dave

I remember the blob of jam with either rice pudding or semolina on the days when they didn't serve custard. As for prunes many years later I was in a small restauraunt in Earls Court where my main course was rabbit with prunes - it was really nice! The starters on that occasion was prawn coctail and the pudding peach melba. Goodness knows why I remember that particular meal 😀 Dave

Thinking back to my schooldays in the 1950/60s I swear kitchens of Fitzalan Technical High School had three taps - "Hot", "Cold" and "Custard" - we had it that often! Dave

My Aunt taught SB at Splotlands Girls Secondary Modern School. My mother assisted at one school Christmas Party and SB, still in school sang. One of the staff remarked that "We have the nwxt Gracie Fields". Apparently SB replied "No, I'm going to be the first Shirley Bassey".

Ah! the location of the model of Danemouth and its owner. 40+ years ago I remember my boss, an Englishman dicating a letter to somebody in Ribena - it did cause some amusement in the typing pool - that's something else thats disappeared. I am sure we have all heard tall stories about the Military even painting the coal white, well yesterday I saw coal painted black😀 We have coal effect gasfires in both the living rooms which SWMBO decreed should be serviced. I will admit that the ceramic coals have become somewhat grey in the last couple of years but there was obvious dust etc beneath the fires. So the chap comes yesterday takes them to pieces and "Henry"s everything in sight. He puts the coals back in place and proceeds to spray them and the back behind them with a special black paint. We then had to run the fires at full heat for a little while during which time there was a smell. I am sure you have all been enthralled and thrilled by this drivel but it does show that there are times, other than on model railways, when coal is painted. Dave

We were almost in the same position Bas with two young children. One of the nicest sounds I ever heard was on a Saturday morning about ten years ago when a large package came through the letterbox - the deeds as the mortgage was paid. A couple of days later a letter from the Land Registry confirmed this. Dave
