  4. Using a piercing saw, thread the blade through the axle hole and saw the plastic centre into one thirds. Remove piercing saw and bend the centres out. Gordon A

  6. In the back of my mind I think I was told that if you have fitted stay alive to a loco, on first putting it on the track you should let it sit on a live DCC track for a couple of minutes before driving it. Something to do with giving the capacitors in the stay alive to charge? Gordon A
  7. Sand is a low volume high weight material, so would it not have been carried in special wagons?
  8. That is not only likely to uncouple one wagon but the next two as well, and probably magnetically grab any metal axles within range. I like the Gaugemaster electro magnets. Wizard Models also produce their own version.

  12. Yes if you look at photos of steam engines on trains, especially on branch lines you should see pictures of locos running tender / bunker first.
  13. There is a place called Hay in South Wales, UK.
  14. I suggest you put a thin layer of plywood on top of the foam board to protect it, also around the other three sides.
  15. We have an ex converted escort coach at Bitton. I believe it was converted in the navy workshops, but never used as all the wiring was not suitable for a carriage.
  16. Same layout as Enigma Sidings which was operated with a system using two sets of cards. One set identified the position the wagon was to be left, the second set identified the wagon. Lots of fun.
  17. This thread refers to a kit produced by Mike Edge (Judith Edge kits). I am not aware of a ready to run model being available. Gordon A
  18. How have you attached your blades to the stretcher bars? If you have soldered them directly to the stretcher bar that will stiffen the operation. I connect the blades to the stretcher bar with a piece of 10 thou (10 gauge) guitar string which gives the required movement between the two parts. Gordon A
  19. I believe Ratio used to do a plastic kit for a Kirtley , I think a 2-4-0.
  20. Tintern on the Chepstow - Monmouth branch had three platforms of which two formed an island platform. The site along with the station building and signal box still exist. The station building is a nice cafe. Gordon A
