I'm not aware that the articulated stock was overly wide. I understood it to be a variation of the later Collett 57 ft bow ended stock. The GWR did have some wide stock (notably the Cornish Riviera and Centenary coaches which were banned from parts of the GWRs own network. But I've never heard of one of the big four loaning stock to one of the others!

Feels very much like a treading water announcement, and perhaps to be expected as they move to a new way of making product announcements. Although the announcement of Polly etc sounds more like a very early April fool! Also I had hoped we'd seen the last of the old GWR Collett coaches and that the moulds had been taken out and buried in an unmarked grave

I don't have the books with me but so far as I recall the GWR articulated restaurant cars were a three car set.

Plastic strip arrived and stonework added to basement on one side. Should have ordered more as have run out of enough to do the otherside. So fresh order placed.

Not much progress. Have ordered some plastic strip which I'd hoped to get Saturday morning to do the rusticated stonework on the new basement but it didn't turn up. So in the meantime have kitbashed the doorways for the Bridewell, finished the steps and balustrade, using some scale link products I find amongst the spares. The balustrade needs drilling to accept these so at the moment they look a bit drunk. Also sprayed some of it in stone colour to allow the second row columns to be glued in and the back wall of this area to be started. I wasn't keen on the large windows the kit with comes with for this area so have bashed up some spare side panels. Progress so far posed with the compulsory Queen Victoria statue. Built from a Franklin mint pewter figurine from their British monarchs and a plasticard base. the lions and lady justice have been ordered

This doesn't surprise me, you may recall their offered their old King as a special model relatively shortly before the new one was announced. Although I believe the announcement of the new one was brought forward due to sudden possibly unsuspected competition. It's making use of the mould to the very last minute, although I'd be a bit miffed if I bought the old one at a time when the manufacturer knew it was about to announce a new one!

Less than 48 hours to go and this thread isn't even simmering. I can't recall such a level of disinterest in a product range announcement!

So I've weathered part of the police station/police court building using WWS weathering powder dissolved in alcohol. Applied quite thickly and then washed down. It's a lot darker than I usually weather down my buildings but in real life in the fifties the building would have been almost completely black. Anyway I thought I would post for feedback before commito the rest of the building. The windows need a wash I know.

Hornby do a 57xx, why. I mean they were lots of them, they had lots of liveries, were spread across the western region. Everything that Hornby don't take account of, looking at current production.

As that involves the Flying Scotsman, it's probably an odds on favourite

On the basis of the current lack of froth and wish listing I'd have to say "no, not very"

If I remember rightly there are tabs on the glazing strips which slot into holes in the sides of the chassis. I think it's two at each end and one in the middle on either side. If you slot a screwdriver between the body side and the chassis and slide it along you should be able to release the body

Arguably it's in Hornsby's interests to spread their announcements out over the year and create a cycle of buz, wish listing and froth throughout the year rather than to concentrate it in one event. Mind you, will play merry hill with a catalogue

Further progress tonight. Steps up to the front entrance started, this view also shows the double row of columns. Platforms for the lions built, and the new basement showing the Bridewell windows. Plinth started. This area will also need lots of plastic strip adding to show the ornamental stonework. Finally an overview

A special 11th anniversary set for the Great Gathering! Actually we've had announcements for the LMS and LNER special passenger sets. Plenty of Pullmans for the Southern. If it were to be GWR this year the options are Cornish Riviera stock, Centenary stock or the Super Saloons. Of these the least useful to modellers are the Super Saloons, so no doubt Hornby will go for those.

So with steady progress on the police station and the police court (now the magistrates), Ive made a start on the Assize court, which will form another side of the legal quarter of the town. It's based on the Walthers Union Station but with extra columns, pediment. There will be lions. The new basement will form the Bridewell and offices. There will be two courts either side of a central atrium all with suitable skylights. The whole legal quarter

So bit of roof work today with the leadwork and top of the two pavilions. The clock has also been added but awaits hands. I also need to fettle the roof over the clock. Pavements to sort out and the back, which probably won't be seen on the layout Then I need a couple of police officers coming on or off duty and a few unfortunates and their solicitors at the court end. Also pictured are some other kibri kitbashes I've started whilst my court/police station mojo was in abeyance. As you can see I do like these kits but as several are made from interchangeable parts which are recognisable I can only really use them the once and so have to make an impact with them. This one is either going to be a department stores (there used to be so many of them. This one will have a new ground floor inserted to create shops with offices above. I don't know why but it makes me think of Scarborough

I suspect your Much Wenlock drawings come from this book. Assuming the drawings haven't been enlarged or shrunk there are drawn at 2mm:1ft

Difficult to believe that it has been March since I posted these photos and little progress has been made until the last few days. My modelling mojo comes and goes. I've struggled what to do with the roof of the main section. A centre pyramid or two outer ones. Well the latter won out. The roofing is partly from the original kit with slaters roof slate sheets making up the extras. Lots of leadwork to be added along with railings and pavements. The whole thing then needs dirtying up for the time it should be almost black with soot and air pollution
