  1. Work has paused on the stop blocks as this little parcel arrived this afternoon. Bits of wood with holes!
  2. Four stop blocks built yesterday, rail ends trimmed to fit and now ready for paint. Lanarkshire models North Eastern early type.
  3. I think if I was to add anything it would be a lamp, they just look better.
  4. Been righting Ratio's wrongs tonight, when they designed their North Eastern platform fencing they inexplicably missed out the middle rail so I've been adding them with 60x20 thou plastic strip. Modellers of the Midland will also need to add the middle rail.
  5. Bit of paint on the gates, as far as I can tell I probably don't need targets or lamps on the gates, it seems from photos I've found that only more major lines and roads had them.
  6. The base is a simple strip of brass, pins soldered through holes and the plastic posts drilled and glued on to these. Another larger hole is drilled to take the operating rod.
  7. Gate number 1 trial fitted, mounted on a strip of brass and there's an operating rod going down through the baseboard.
  8. Doesn't everyone's inner six year old want to go 'Neeeeooow, D-D-D-D-D-D...'? 😲
  9. Happened to be in the shed (garage really) with the door open and there was a lovely orange pink sunset glow on the layout... And this was the sunset, although it had gone back a bit by the time I'd got over the road.
  10. And these are big buildings, as it is at the moment it's 415mm long, nearly 104 foot! and I've left the gents toilet off. Those GWR modellers have it easy with their tiny wooden sheds and a canopy...😁
  11. All buildings are scratcbuilt, definitely no kits for any of these! For the station building there's a basic front elevation in 'North Eastern Record Vol 1' of a Whitby-Loftus building, 'The Forge Valley Line by Robin Lidster has cross section drawings and 'North Eastern Architecture Vol 3' has half a front and half a rear elevation of Grinkle station. The weigh office is from 'The Forge Valley Line' and the signal cabin is a fairly standard S1 type, drawings in all sorts of places.
  12. Summer Saturday only autocar working from Scarborough to Stockton and return, calling at Chop Gate 11.15am.
  13. Freezing out in the shed tonight but managed to get a bit done earlier, land forming on board 1 is basically done. Then the goods train that was shunted yesterday departed.
  14. Building up the land profiles along the back of the layout using strips of plywood. I always cut the ends of adjacent boards together, makes life a bit easier...
  15. Don't know how often wagons were repainted, I would imagine many weren't after this livery change.
  16. Post 1911 as there's an NER G2 with large N E, could be a while after as it looks filthy.
  17. Wow! That's a bit orange. Cleaning the rail tops off improves it a bit. Nicely toned down.
