  1. Hi Neil - Newbury appearance certainly is still on - see link on my signature. Will you be paying a visit? Zambesi had hit the buffers once transferred and varnished as Jimbo - the spray gum meister - has been ill since Christmas However good news - he materialised this afternoon and was rapidly pointed in the direction of the spray gun! Zambesi's underframes were first on the hit list - followed by D6975 AND D326's FYEs, along with roof and frame dirt on D838, D1584, D125, D849 and D8175 So plenty of new power for Newbury if progress continues at that rate - although D1584 and D843 need a trip to Howes for Bryan to weave his magic, that will no doubt cost me another visit to Huffkins in Burford.... And started the "A" exams on all the other power today too.... Phil
  2. And C4386 - those lucky KWVR boys get the luxury of a BFK in their excursion rake.... Phil
  3. Absolutely Brian! Coil E and Coil G have to be a natural progression don't they? What would need to be done to the model? Remove jacks and side chains and then a bit of plasticard fabrication - you could hide a multitude of sins under those tarp covers.... Phil
  4. Don't 42 Commando use AFVs? http://www.eliteukforces.info/gallery/vehicles/viking-royal-marines.php Phil
  5. Good plan Coach! Mr Isherwood's products are excellent in that respect. We are all hiding issues like that in the closet. We built a batch of PD wagons and didn't realise we had put different underframes on opposing sides of the same wagon as PD had helpfully put them both on the same fret. Havent had the heart to hack them off and change them ....yet Phil
  6. Just started going through coach rakes eliminating duplicate numbers and giving them correct regional numbers according to Mr Carroll's excellent resources. Ho hum two rakes done.... Phil
  7. I think it was several castings combined Mike IIRC Swindon also had a spare D600 cab - which is paradoxical as I seem to remember reading that when one went back to NBL for accident repairs at least one cab was replaced with a steel fabrication...because they did not have a spare! Phil
  8. Oh yes! http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=vinegar+branch+worcester&view=detailv2&&id=DFFFFF85BD90D50007D7F05796EFFECDF65F0EF1&selectedIndex=4&ccid=EECjHj62&simid=608010007117105997&thid=OIP.M1040a31e3eb63ec60b478f4ee8b5cf20o0&ajaxhist=0 Phil
  9. IIRC the hydraulics with aluminium bodywork were the D600s and D6300s - and the DE D6100s - all built by NBL. The cab units were aluminium - the rest of the body was steel, along with all the bodywork on D800s, D1000s and D7000s It was the load bearing stressed steel monocoque construction used in the D800 and D1000s rather than a heavy frame bed as used in D600s and D6300s - and also all other DEs up to D1500s - that made them light weight Adhesion of paint has already been covered but was compounded by the use of Prestolinth paste as a filler on the stressed steel skins of D800s and D1000s to get a smooth surface - if water got behind the filler corrosion set in leading to loss of large chunks of painted filler - which we used to collect off D800s at Worcester! Cheers Phil
  10. This reproduction sign plays homage to the installation http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/METAL-SIGN-WORCESTER-RAILWAY-HORSES-/370274917517?hash=item56361adc8d:g:NxYAAMXQNo5Taqb- Original is in the NRM IIRC Cheers Phil

  13. Of course there is always an alternative option for those old Mainline warships.... Phil
  14. Wonderful again Dave - particularly that 40.... J1115 - is that not a 46 going by the battery boxes? Wondering about D162...but deffo not D68 which was a split box namer ...https://www.flickr.com/photos/fray_bentos/200200402/in/photolist-iG5B5-dL3pit-dRw79D-H1DEnT-qc5wq5-aV3Gwz-9LHSHB-mEEoRv-QBkMJf-DHpw1u-sxds6L-c9daXS-fzy6u9-a4wHsN-9wx2rb-aDHtMG-aavDrw-4UbMNq-5jAArn-DQZoqD-qtoCw6-efhKtj CHeers Phil
  15. Have you tried googling - found some there Pjhil
  16. It was on the original model Neil... http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=mainline+D823&view=detailv2&&id=90566F1A843433D03896E1DE52A70A4721F5EFCB&selectedIndex=1&ccid=pPtEp%2f5u&simid=608000528108422293&thid=OIP.Ma4fb44a7fe6ec0788188b226924a965fo0&ajaxhist=0 Mainline did a pretty good job.... Phil
  17. Robert, thanks for posting a query on the Yahoo Hydraulics group. And as is usually the case the answer emerged - from Martin Street - thank you both, Gentlemen. All Warships had their MU jumpers removed around 1965 and, as is common knowledge, a number of the Swindon loco’s had them refitted in early 68 for the 2 x 42 diagrams on the West of England services. However, prior to this it would appear Old Oak carried out a trial working of pairs of type 43’s in mid 67, refitting D833, D835, D857 and D864. The cables were soon removed from the first two but they stayed on the later two. In fact D857 even had the white diamonds painted on the buffer beam similar to the Class 42’s. I don’t believe that the MU cables were ever used after the short trial. So that's no MU cables in this livery then. And in the absence of other photos have had to make some assumptions.... If anyone with access to any other photos spots an error please shout - will seal the transfers with varnish in a couple of days, then there is no going back! Cheers Phil
  18. D*mn! Spent all my money on wine and food instead.... Phil
  19. Major project.....rebuild Abbotswood! Just look at that trackwork .....12 mins in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GQZaSKkY3ew Phil
  20. And my WTTs don't quite go that late - but in 71-72 wtt Hereford to BNS unit workings mostly ran under 2V9x headcodes Phil
  21. Ah sorry my spilling mistook ... meant to say pastry! Regarding the surviving wren...I think the smaller they are the greater their chances of surviving moggie attacks. Our moggie once came in looking very smug with a tail protruding from mouth. Managed to pin him down and prise open mouth - at which point a long tailed tit fell out, shook himself off, did a lap of the kitchen and out through the back door... Very lucky.... Phil
  22. Thanks Keefer - I did have a good squint , happy to stand corrected! Cheers Phil
  23. Hi Dave More smashing shots - but afraid the DMU gremlins have got at the captions! J2627 is a Derby 116 suburban unit - window layout on side and first class accommodation in centre car are main clues - and C1527 is a 117 or 118 - I suspect the latter, BRCW, due to curved top on headcode box Cheers Phil Edit - please see Keefer's post below, set number says its a 117, many thanks!
  24. Put surplus pasty out on the fence on Christmas day - the long tails were investigating it within 5 mins but not sure they were that impressed.... Phil
