  1. Many thanks Stovepipe So she was in traffic in that awful state in August.... Thanks again Phil
  2. Cant see it - I guess as I wasn't following it Neil - did you buy that one? Phil
  3. That's great gen - many thanks Stovepipe Could still do with finding a shot of her late 69 though.... Phil
  4. Thanks Greg - MU sockets blanked off in this shot - how early was that done I wonder? I reckon that Plymouth Open day shot is either wrong date or wrong loco. EM for you I guess - How about posting some photos up ? We could get the whole class..... Cheers Phil
  5. Can anyone help please with dating this undated shot from Andy Y's pinterest gallery? https://www.pinterest.com/pin/289567451017714543/ Desperately trying to see if that's a data panel on the access trap which would make this a late Laira repaint although I suspect given the livery on the DMUs in the background its probably Feb 64 when she went in to GSYP Many thanks Phil
  6. Oh hang on Look what I have found whilst searching for more pictures of Sprightly http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=845+sprightly&view=detailv2&&id=45AB781E56A4D11D8A185510A9903C143201F919&selectedIndex=1&ccid=WRawapG%2b&simid=607998109462826360&thid=OIP.M5916b06a91be1c0880355f287a593230o0&ajaxhist=0 A 43 on a Waterloo - Exeter! But whats going on here? http://railphotoprints.zenfolio.com/p274090425/h267ac636#h267ac636 BFYE in 1969???? Does anyone know the date and have a list of what was there that day - is this a misidentification if the date is correct? Phil
  7. Thanks Neil Yup had seen that one - theoretically she had completed her 3 months in store at 82A by then and been transferred to 83A but that looks like a stored loco to me! I wonder if anyone has a photo taken between this one and her going in to BFYE at the end of the year? Or was that period spent in works? I cant bring myself to model her without nameplates so am going to assume they were refixed and the loco given a bit of a clean whilst retaining that maroon panel and returned to traffic...unless you know otherwise???? Cheers Phil
  8. That's great Richard If we carry on like this we will have the full set soon Letter in post to you.... Phil
  9. Hee hee Is it a train set if we dont run roundy roundy Miike (well not whilst you are watching any way....!) Hope to see you there..... Phil
  10. Cheers Rob And that makes such a difference doesn't it? Particularly on the hydraulics with their distinctive deep front valances Kind regards Phil
  11. Ah - as we fit wire coupling loops they are only cosmetic for us.... usually! Phil
  12. Ah not quite so far then! Getting in to swing of preparing for Great electric Train Show after 2 weeks hols Sprightly is in shops at the moment - see Bachmann class 43 thread .... and have put coupling loops on that plus 4 other locos today - 1666/1725/1830 plus 163, 7000/843/844 still to do so should be some nice new power on show. Other jobs to do - Finish off MK1 end of rake coaches now I have some Comet eteched end plates to hand thanks to Wizard Models Set layout up for pre show shakedown Finish servicing locos Service all stock including checking working tail lamps - must order more from Express Models And then theres the signals.... Phil
  13. Ah - but the advantage with DCC is I can programme the top speed on the loksound chip. Wouldn't want any Pegasus imitations! Phil
  14. We've got a sound chip in D843 - didn't run well on a cheapo Bacchy chip at all, is OK on the Loksound Yet to run Spartan and Sprightly in and none of them have run on the layout yet so will hold judgment on running characteristics for the moment Cheers Phil
  15. Cheers Stovepipe According to Andy Y's reference material she was allocated to 82A around this time - the only one I think! The photo of her at Bristol 3 months later in a dreadful state minus a name plate would certainly fit with that - is there a record anywhere please? Cheers Phil
  16. Buffer beam now sorted - shed plate pad now in correct place - just a shed plate fixed on face to bufferbeam! Model strip had the original off in 20 mins flat. Will add central hole with black marker later when paint is dry. MU connections also blanked off. Body is also coming along - has had transfers and second coat of gloss varnish Nice of Bachmann to start supplying decent screw link couplings - saves more expenditure on Roger Smith ones. Phil
  17. Hi Dave Missed my daily fix on this thread as have been away for a fortnight You have crept more cracking shots in in my absence! On a point of order - J1818 - E3043 it aint, that's an 84 - E3063 perhaps? Kind regards Phil
  18. Mr Picky now back from week in Rhodes and a weeks fluff chucking on the River Wye - work resumes on Sprightly That shed code plate is just in the wrong place. Shouldn't be above the vacuum pipe but rather as we look at it over to the left next to the MU connection. See https://www.flickr.com/photos/59835095@N02/6309614977/in/album-72157627920981333/ Out with the Model strip! Have an idea how to replace it watch this space Phil
  19. Humbrol rattle can. Goes on just fine over original paintwork or resprays with precision - be that rattle can or airbrush. Rail match paints don't like it though so we are moving away from them to standardise on precision for any repainting Cheers Phil
  20. Thanks Andrew We go down the varnish route to hide transfer film and also to protect them in the rough and tumble of exhibition running when locos are handled a fair bit. Some transfers are very delicate and susceptible to washes which we always thin with white spirit or turps, never paint thinners. Cheers Phil
  21. Yup it's those pina colladas. Quite how sprightly became mashup I will never know...... Phil
  22. Hi Owen We remove printing, then gloss varnish, apply details and any plates/transfers, more gloss to hide transfer films Then Matt followed by roof grime and any body washes/detail painting. Jumbo favours Matt whilst I shall probably go with satin for mashup which is currently languishing in works whilst I slum it in Rhodes.... Hope that helps Phil
  23. Cracking shots again Dave from a poorly recorded era Just one point of order... J1098, D6811 is a split boxer http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=D6811&view=detailv2&&id=016E64D9A825EB5553ACCC2E54516B1F5B1780DE&selectedIndex=8&ccid=HXKjNMJA&simid=607990142289445562&thid=OIP.M1d72a334c2400bd63f47fb616610535fo0&ajaxhist=0 D6911 perhaps? Phil
  24. PS Mike The headcode glazing on that MSYP jobbie needs fixing too..... Hee hee Phil
  25. Welcome matey - well aware of those handrail issues but difficult to spot at a scale 75 mph! Jimbo does a great weathering job for sure.... Phil
