  1. Cheers Mike Funnily enough not when she came through Churchdown - but that's why I headed for Norton Junction, guessed she would warble across the pointwork then open up for some decent sound effects Shame theres no token exchange ! Phil PS must get a monpod for better steadiness
  2. Sorry hadn't replied earlier - only just seen this The difference - for me - is as follows: More of the characteristic whistle Better top end thrash And key is that the sound files are tuned to the driving of the loco without having to go through all the rigmarole of resetting CVs yourself Have a look at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgALWABO0UM&feature=youtu.be - sorry its only a test track clip And compare with the real thing which I filmed today at Norton Junction https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GVf-tEmtKgk Horses for courses - you makes your choice! But a sound file from an enthusiastic secondary supplier is always likely to drive better than a main market installed device. As for economics Hattons currently quote £208 for DCC sound and £81 for non DCC loco so that's £127 to play with. Loksound V4 chip £84 at SWD plus £6 for speaker plus £15 for reblow at Howes - so that leaves you £22 to cover postages, ends up probably not much in it! If you are going to get it reblown any way then the SWD chip has to be the better bet - and I haven't tried changing the speaker fitted in D211, the mounting probably restricts options significantly. Hope that all helps! Cheers Phil
  3. And see post 178 in http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/11410-abbotswood-junction/page-8&do=findComment&comment=1475597 for a link to youtube video of her at Norton Junction and Churchdown today - 7/6/14 Cheers Phil
  4. And theres a banger blue 40 on phase two this evening!!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GVf-tEmtKgk&feature=youtu.be Phil
  5. Heres some rolling stock progress Spent last weekend and this with Jim weathering our bogie bolsters - all 17 of them Wheels removed and painted Gentle squirt of frame dirt from below Dirty black wash from above Squirt of matt varnish Gives us these Also been asked about our Peaks in early blue livery 4 15 50 78 79 185 left to right and front to back 50 and 79 are early BSYP - James cut the rail blue with a paler blue to make them that bit paler - ? accurate shade but dirt and fading would make that tricky any way I guess 15 was a rework with nose doors by Mark B - cheers mate excellent job! Thoughts folks? Cheers Phil
  6. Mint condition? That's like a polo then - with a significant hole! Phil
  7. And how many of us formed part of that crowd of enthusiasts on the end of Reading platform that year? I was there for at least 3 days... Phil
  8. Smashing stuff one and all Two split box 37s at STJ Brian? Wonder what they had worked down on, not common at that time Cheers Phil
  9. Hi Phil D1054 in maroon FYE? That's a rare shot was hunting for one last year and couldn't find one! Thanks for sharing these super shots. See Nidge's excellent livery resource at http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/54551-western-liveries-1961-1977/ - she was only in this livery for 9 months, March to Dec 1970 Looking at the condition of the yellow paint its been on there a few months and that looks like a summer sky so I reckon Summer 1970 - does that help? Wanted to do my Dapol MFYE as this loco but lack of photo stymied that so she ended up as 1067 instead. Kind regards Phil Bullock
  10. D200 (D211) now back from Howes - much better sound files Have already played with CV5 & 6 but will have a good go based on these findings - many thanks, she ran round the test track for 3 hours the other night with 17 bolsters in tow so is well run in Phil
  11. And Tornado with a BR1 tender? Does he have an Evening Star with an LNER 8 wheeler I wonder? Phil
  12. D6992 is in the queue waiting for a chip - along with D6785, D185, D7100, D1011/46/67 which are all otherwise finished. Jim is working on D7612 which was a scot with a tablet catcher recess so needs a bit of work yet. D6601 GFYE D6885 BFYE and D6972 BFYE are new 37s that are ready to run though so am sure they will be appearing along with other newbies like D200 and D5901 Phil
  13. Ha ha We had hoped to do that today but the weather said showers so setting up in the garden was a no no! Did it rain? No! As soon as weather is in a settled pattern we will have something for you am sure... Any requests? Phil
  14. Two projects over weekend 1. Redesigned pointwork at Gloucester end of fiddle yard - simplified with frog juicers installed so should be much more reliable, now needs two crossovers installed on the next board. This is all phase 2 enabling works and means that southbound trains will have access to 9 loops - just loop 1 excluded. And once the crossovers are in trains from loop 1 will be able to access the up main so the super long freights wont be confined to the loop in the up direction in future - a non prototypical limitation as currently stands as class 6 trains such as Waterston - Albion tanks would rarely be put inside. 2. Wagon weathering with Jim - 17 bacchy bogie bolsters weathered with frame dirt and a black wash, wheels and buffers toned down with gunmetal, wheels in particular are prominently shiny on these if left untreated. All are currently batting round the test track behind D200 at full chat having been serviced - btbs checked, wheels cleaned and axles oiled - with nary a sniff of a derailment. D200 and D7646 have been to Howes for reblows, fetched them back Saturday along with D5901 which has now had its Deltic horns replaced with EE Type 1s instead. And thanks to Howes for replacing the failed BP chip under warranty - excellent service, cheers folks! There's a rumour abroad that some of preservation's lost diesels - Falcon, Blue Pullman, D5901, Class 22 - might be appearing at the Toddington Diesel gala this year. Watch this space.... Phil
  15. Andi Does this one help? http://www.flickr.com/photos/r-t-c/8371993162# From Tim Young's Flikr photos Kind regards Phil
  16. Absolutely That's the difference between the railway in the landscape and the excellent super detailed layouts we see on here Its a balance and both are equally valid Phil
  17. Coming on nicely John Have had to take the same attitude to stock on Abbotswood Junction as when running long trains the amount of stock is a challenge to weather let alone super detail! Phil
  18. True - but not in the 70s - 25038 still has a working boiler too, seen at Norton Junction. Is that saloon the correct pattern I wonder? Cheers Phil
  19. And just to torment those still waiting here - look at the link from this thread! http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/85613-1960s-scotland-type-1-2s/ Phil
  20. Have fun Bill Is she staying as 47148? Phil
