Supplying power to the piggy-back wagon via the track won't work - as soon as it moves away from the dock it'll start seeing 009 track power to it's own loco at which point the load will start moving on the transporter wagon! I'd use some brass or phosphor bronze strip at the end of the wagon that comes into contact with pads at the end wall of the dock. Alternatively, similar strips soldered to the standard gauge rail ends that brush along the sides of the rails on the transporter wagon should work. Have a look to see the various arrangements used for connecting cassette fiddle yard modules. Steven B.

Ventilators. You'll find similar vents on departmental/engineering coaches. Steven B -
Great to hear you had a good weekend - good to see Yorkshire Area Group member's layouts are also powered by as many biscuits as a regular group meeting! Steven B

Hopefully this is the same wagon! Great show! I had covid last Easter so it was a welcome return to the Race Course After far too many years away. My 8 year old enjoyed the Easter egg hunt and an extra thank-you to those exhibitors who took the time to engage with the younger visitors. Steven B

It won't, it is Saturday. We have the alternative car park set up for Saturday. See https://yorkshow.org.uk/car/ for full parking details. In which case, York Race Course calendar is wrong as it says Sunday 31st. https://www.conferenceandeventsyork.co.uk/whats-on-guide.html?month=03&year=2024 https://www.conferenceandeventsyork.co.uk/car-boot-sale-18.html The Car boot organiser's site says it's on Saturday (https://www.yorkcarboot.com/) Steven

Short Trains Worth Modelling

Interestingly, the brake van has lamps on the sides meaning the train (or at least the tail end of it) is running unbraked. Steven B -
The Digitrax Zephyr is a nice unit and easy to expand into the rest of the Digitrax universe should the need arise. I'd suggest visiting a DCC specialist and trying out the likes of the PowerCab or Zephyr. All the on-line suggestions in the world aren't worth as much as spending time using the actual systems. If you're happy with a touch screen then DCC+ (or the newer DCC-EX) or a SPROG (with PC) can be controlled via a smart phone. Steven B

Manchester New Century Hall, mid 1980s. Often on a Friday evening (late night as no school the next day!), getting the train to Victoria. Chee Tor and the large scale tram layout are still vivid in my memories! Also went to Rochdale, Bolton and Heywood shows around the same time. It was quite exciting seeing traders who's names I'd seen advertised in Railway Modeller. Steven B

Of course, there's nothing stopping you from having the HST power car being in front of the class 91. Then add in a DVT, a class 90 and a second class 91, in at least five different liveries: (Richard on Flickr) -

Perhaps they were worried about the reliability of a new loco class and its interoperability with the HST power car. Problems with the TDM lead to trains like this: Blunt End 91 & HST At Leeds. by Neil Harvey 156, on Flickr Was there a limitation on the top speed a HST coupled with the emergency bar coupling could travel? I attempted to make a Dogfish ballast hopper from a Peco grain wagon. Wrong shape, wrong number of ribs, poor joining of parts, no handrails or brake wheels but it filled a space until the Dapol model was made! Steven B

Web-page from one of the builders of the IWM diorama: https://www.modelhouses.co.uk/the-auschwitz-model-the-experience-of-studying-the-unimaginable/ The model's not finished in black and white - it's a single shade of grey. Any visible variation is due to the lighting of the model. Steven B -

N gauge Fleischmann coupling replacement
Steven B replied to Gook the Goblin's topic in Modifying & Detailing RTR stock
If the coupling is to the NEM standard then yes, you should be able to pull out the old coupling and fit the new one (Farish, Dapol, Fleischmann or West Hill Wagon Works). There are still a few models available that don't have NEM pockets. You'll also find that the newer Peco wagons have NEM type pockets but the sockets aren't compatible (the actual coupling heads are fine). Some of the earlier batches of Farish Mk1s has sockets that were a little narrow. There are also a few issues around coupling heights - within a particular manufacturer's range you shouldn't have any problems. However, some combinations don't quite work - Dapol Mk3 to a Farish class 90 for example. Dapols working and dummy buck-eye couplings should fit in Farish's sockets - I've got Farish Mk2F coupled to Dapol Mk3 using the working on. Steven B
