Status Updates posted by Tim V

  1. 100 best TV shows of the 21st Century in the Guardian. I haven't seen any of them ...

Whats worrying is not thet the shows are so niche, but that we're not even a fifth of the way into the 21st century.  Perhaps the Guardian is worrying that we won't even get to the half-way mark!

  2. According to the latest Toyota advert, I'd rather be in a Corolla than an E type. I think not!

Toyota=whitegoods on wheels! The vehicle you buy when you have no interest in motoring or driving, would make Shumacher drive like a 85-year old vicar.

The E-type is all right if you don't mind getting the bus home, not a very well built car and on the original cross ply tyres not a very good drive either.

      Cwmtwrch

All powered vehicles, including electric vehicles, are classed as motor vehicles under the RTA, even those ***** electric scooters, although there is an exception for some [but not all] electric bicycles. They are therefore all subject to speed limits and restrictions on where they can be legally used, must be taxed and insured, and users must have licences and are subject to minimum age requirements.

At that rate of comparison, the fuel sounds almost reasonable!  However its not the same as the rake of Hornby Railroad Mk1s that could be obtained before things went mad....

Forces TV removed from Freeview as of tomorrow.

    3. Pacific231G

      Pacific231G

Yes. I've just checked and it's going from Sky and Virgin also. Apparently, Offcom flogged the frequencies its multiplex uses to EE who wanted more of them for 5G. BFBS decided that that without being of Freeview it wasn't financially viable to run the channel just on the paid for networks.

As always, a public service (in this case run by a charity mainly for our servicemen and women and their families but appreciated by many other viewers) loses out to commercial interests.

I knew one their senior engineers who I'd worked with on the Microlive programme in the 1980s who went to BFBS after leaving the beeb. He showed me round their HQ near Missenden once.

I don't think an ordinary Roman, citizen or slave, would know anything about the Anno Domini dating system (Popularised by the Venerable Bede in the 7th/8th century).

Year dating in Rome around then was by reference to  the current Caesar and the Consuls for the year. So if the poor bu@@er had his wits about him, he might have blurted, in Latin, something like "its the Year of the Consulship of Titus and Vespasianus", or if an intellectual, "Year 832 since the founding of Rome".

The movement of an Echo device is the least of the annoyances about that futile ad!

      Hehehehehehe...

btw Pompey was a Roman general who died over a century before the eruption of Vesuvius, which destroyed Pompeii, Herculaneum and other places......

Never mind speed awareness courses - or the "rock and roll" routine - some bins round here are doing flying lessons.

I wonder if this might have anything to do with some of them containing empty Red Bull cans ... .
