  1. I haven’t tried it but I guess if you set it up as desired then exported the profile, if global volume screwed that up you could import it again. The answer if not would be to set the global volume first then adjust the individual items and save out by export.
  2. I use a 15W Antex which has swappable tips ranging from 2.3mm down to 0.5mm. I have soldered tiny 8-legged SMDs with it no problem - using a magnifier to aid the dodgy eyes and a rest to steady the dodgy fingers.
  3. Things have moved on a pace since those early views of the Hornby atomising smoke unit. Even the idiotic Sam has spotted a space for the ASU module and the ‘strange’ wheel driven chopper, which is obviously part of a chuff timing system. Plenty of informative chat about it on the Hornby forum. Once learned soul even theorises on the exact methodology.
  4. Worth going onto LinkedIn and trawling the Hornby crowd - around 150+ souls registered. Interesting reading.
  5. Airfix was 2 shillings a bag in my day. Frog was more expensive as it came in a box.
  6. Select can write to CVs if it has firmware at v1.6 or v2.0 - the numbers 16 or 20 appear at boot up followed by 30 then 03. A number <16 means it cannot, but it can be sent to Hornby for updating at a cost of approx £15.
  7. Gaugemaster SS1 is a DC shuttle. Edit - GM has an old article on-site showing how to use this on a DCC track.
  8. DPDT centre off switch The switch flips DC to DCC by having the track wired to the centre pin pair and each controller wired to each outer pin pair. DCC controller Prog output goes to your programming track and Track output goes as above, no need for a second switch, unless you want say a live siding to double up as a programming track. I have a rolling road as a dual use Prog/Run track.
  9. Roads and Rails do a 21 pin adapter with instructions that if Aux 5 and 6 are to be used on a decoder (say ESU) with full voltage output not logic only output then certain jumpers have to be made or broken (can’t remember which way it is). I would presume the dip switches on the loco perform that function, but you still cannot make a logic only decoder drive lighting, etc without some additional on-board the loco circuitry.
  10. The static charging is sound profile dependant and being rolled out ongoing. So far the Tornado and A4 00 profiles have it. Others will come along soon. It is being discussed as to how best to flag up if a profile is thus capable and the status list on the website may be the most convenient way for now.
  11. Shreddies is a colloquial term for RAF issue underpants - aka drawers, cellular - on account the textile weave closely resembles the breakfast food pattern.
  12. The plan suggests to me that operations would centre upon a relay of different trains running the loops from the fiddle yard with the occasional branch line activity. Good for rotating stock and giving show front customers some interest, but operationally the whole thing would be a manual chore, but could be automated while the operator drinks tea, coffee, wine, beer, etc.
  13. Look at the mechanics of the Hornby power bank , it is three 2.7 volts super caps in series, so establish what voltage on your decoder you are connecting to the that. The Hornby decoders have a zenner and resistor between the bridge rectifier and the power bank feed to control power in and allow power out. Edit - also take the shrink wrap off the power bank and you will see it is not just the normal 1 x resistor and 1 x diode charging circuit.
  14. A programming track is only powered in short bursts at low power when actually programming, thus of no use as a buzz test. Try the buzz test on the main track, but as stated only briefly. If you are brave and your controller supports it try running loco address zero, if it responds to that then there is no decoder (they are not chips).
  15. Roads and Rails has just announced an enhanced bass speaker at 8 ohms.
  16. Try doing the CV29 change from your dcc controller.
  17. As the Select doesn’t have a separate programming track output, programming is done at main track potential, not low power, so it is dead easy to reprogram the whole fleet by fumble fingering the buttons. Something as simple as holding the Select button too long and you are in the wrong mode. Anyone with a Select has likely done it inadvertently.
  18. Use a CV29 calculator and get it right instead of faffing about.
  19. N18S and 8-pin use the same PCB and anyone handy with a soldering iron could pick up more hardware function outputs on the 8-pin. No forecast on Gen2 decoders yet.
  20. Doing it from the app CV Editor is a doddle, but only if you know the F-#s for the functions you need or want to bin. It helps to read the famous manual to understand what those selector CVs do. If you have recently loaded the Tornado profile and have a power-bank fitted then that will charge when static and prevent any stalling due to inrush current.
  21. I have small neo magnets glued under my locos to operate in track reed switches and Hall effect sensors and I have never seen any problems with my decoders.
  22. You can already control solenoid points, signal or street lights and a turntable from the app using the existing HM6010 module. Depending upon its power source it can provide Basic operation of those services (DC powered) or the same functionality as the V2.0 R8247 unit (DCC powered). It is likely the dongle will be able to operate the R8247 from the app similar to a legacy decoder.
  23. Not sure that you will be able to change regular decoder CVs from the app via the dongle, as the app command route would have to put the DCC controller into programming mode with the loco on the programming track and as far as I know that is not supported from the app at present. Power bank charging is being enabled for static charging but at present this has to be done sound profile by sound profile which means that when each one is so enabled and reissued it will have to be reloaded.
  24. It can be any gender to any other gender, not limited to your **** example.
  25. Amazon use it and you just used it but I am not allowed to use it. A tad Draconian methinks.
