  2. Csb on ivatt 4 tender complete. Bemused by spring rates. To my mind looks to saggy but it matches the pictures. The test will be will it match the loco.

Aye thats the one. Its gone together not too badly considering my two left thumbs, but if this was a car i'd be saying stiffer/longer spring rates or up the coilover rates. Should it sit on the bumpstops?

      Horsetan

I thought the whole point was to have the suspension allowing the engine to sit in mid-travel, not on the bumpstops.

hmmmm, thought so. The j-72 was set at mid (ish) travel. This seems to have settled on the stops so off to ye olde-worlde shoppe of geetars in town on my lunch break tomorrow. From tens to 12/13s me thinks.also time to check Chris Pendleton's article in MRJ 175.

  3. permission to have room-envy please. Looking forward to reading of your progress and thank you for lifting your head above the parapet to share your story with us

I, regretfully, have to agree. I have that sense of foreboding that usually heralds uncontrollably slipping editorial deadlines :(

  6. am looking at the Brassmasters Ivatt 4, out of the corner of my eye trying to sneak up on it when I'm ready. theme music needed:"One of these days"

  7. All Hail the asymetrical 4-sided shape. The board shapes are sorted but I'm now thinking that even at 1/4 size maquette all layouts should be on embankments and not in cuttings.

  8. another day in paradise?

hmm yes, ground floor shopper's paradise. I'm now feeling disturbed that I inadvertently started the day with a Phil Collins lyric in my head, albeit ironically given the weather.

  9. Armed only with this bottle of merlot, some drawings, card and the newsquiz on the i-player I have set forth on a quest for the 1/4 size layout mockup. There may be contours ahead, but while there's scalpels and spraymount and templot and maps, lets face the archive and guess.

  10. with an inverted A1 rattling away on the desktop testing facility, my attention is drawn to the fact that this office is sadly lacking in features such as "the wall of crisps"

"Shelf of tat" is a must. No-one gets their expenses paid for business trips unless they bring back some tat.

      Steve Taylor

Hmmm, a bit more diplomatic term for that is needed, since the four shelves of stuff for model making could be, by some members of the household, described as shelves of tat

  13. the high plains of Leicestershire are looking bright and verdant today, especially with the house closed down to anti-roasting mode.

  14. I suppose real road transport has suspension to absorb the slight camber of the average road surface and failing that there's always "lardy" drivers to balance things out seeing as sitting on the right they are on the high side of the camber over here - i know springs are supposed to be handed but you look at how many coil/leaf sprung vehicles sag. Can I ask how you cut the arch profile out of thick plasticard? I've an elliptical arch profile to do and have ground to a halt while working this out. Cheers and thanks for the updates. Steve
  15. bring me the asbestos thimbles, I'm going in.

It only does 90-degree right-hand lead. If your engine is left-hand lead, or has 3-cylinders, you're on your own!
