  1. thanks again for sharing your work, slainte and all the best for the New Year
  2. I'll certainly be watchiing with interest having not followed one of your builds from the start before. I like the infinity curve idea for the background - is there an ideal distance to place this from the main scenic items or will it rely on a slight softening of focus to sugest distance? Cheers Steve
  3. annoy the cat, eat all the mackeral, annoy myself, do some work :(

  4. Looking forward to seeing this progress - scale mice perhaps? It is reassuring that its not just our cat that assesses peoples attention needs based upon the timesincelastvisit to fridge/cupboard/oven formula and decides that if your failing that you need close supervision within 2' of your nose - way to go Fleur (and Chris too) Never mind the sad terminal history of the brewery...... what did the beer taste like? All the best Steve
  5. So often in this place I see work that practically makes my jaw dislocate with the level of work, skill and attention. Your main layout build has been frankly stunning but for a "fiddler" like me so far in the stratosphere that I know I could never attain that level of fidelity - with the signal box however you are working with something I can relate to and I'm not overwhelmed by. Frankly WOW. With this I could see my self progressing along this route at some point. Thank you for sharing this with us and reveleaing the proccess tobe not so intimidating after all. I wish I'd made it south this year to see the progress but will content myself with your updates. Thanks for taking the time to share. Steve
  6. stuck in dry dock so am spending the day fettling

  7. how easy are high-level hornblocks...... tomorrow CSB awaits

  8. i hate to say it, but i have to agree. A very valid point here....... given the high standard of your scenic work its produced an image strong enough to stand alone without the usual bimbo distraction of the "big metal lumps". Much more tantalising. More please. How feasible would it be through manipulation of background and lighting to suggest different weather..... am i alone in finding that the railway in image and model exists only on sunny days with occasional forays into snow or evening gloom when reality suggest the amount of time with adverse weather outweighs the halcyon presentation. This is in no way a criticism of your outstanding work, more of a possible challenge? thanks again for sharing and provoking my brain cell to life. Steve
  9. time to try to make good the v2 body shell and haul out the underpinnings and then make sense of CSB. THURSDAYBUSYBUSY

  10. back from surgery with a sicknote too. Its time to get on with things :D

  11. foamboardfoamboardfoamboard everywhere, and not a scrap of it cut square

  12. "All we hear is, Radio Dada......."

  13. aah excellent stuff. Good to see an update. Topic set to watch and breath baited etc.
  14. though veering a wee bitty off of the original topic, since locking bars are pertinent to the understanding of methods of locking points, here's some details of the locking bar at the north end of Grosmont on the NYMR. here apologies for the abstract human invasion - these were for notes on an authorised site visit. here crank base manufactured from a post crank mount. here here here Somewhere I have pictures of FPL and internals from Swithland which we are fitting out at present. As I'm away "on tour" I can't lay my hands on those but will add them to proceedings as soon as i find them. Anyone got any idea why i'm no longer able to directly link to fotopic held images?
  15. Errrrm, at the risk of heading mildly off topic..... can anyone post a picture of a more antique economical FPL setup. I am intrigued. My grandfather, before heading into telecoms, was a fully trained mechanical S&T apprentice, joining in '36. even today when given scheme queeries, economical FPLs are brought up as an example of how to. Perhaps one of us with a more historical bias might give a synopsis of the locking bar versus the fpl and the economical FPL, and the regs governing usage and installation.
  16. umm excuse my ignorance, do you have a link for DMR? Google is not being very helpful. Ta.
  17. Start preheating the shopping tools! DMR?
  18. J39 looks lovely, any detail shots available? Cheers for sharing.
  19. aah... nowt like prepping the lineside in 12":1' gauge. So much less fiddly!

  20. So how long do we wait for Comet to bring out a chassis kit to go with it? Very nice of Hornby to think of us non OO 4mm types!
  21. Ooh ta for that I'll keep an eye out for that. Cheers Steve
  22. How feasible would it be to convert a Bachman j72 and V1? I assume they'd be hard wired which would be a usefull learning step for me for other P4 kit based projects. Cheers for any suggestions and ta for the J39 guide. Steve
  23. Mine arrived this afternoon. Looks good. Weird to think i've sat on the full size beastie. Now must put something together in oo to test it on.
