  1. £30 per set means by all 4 and you can almost have a fifth for free! A very expensive month - 2nd release of Hornby ex-LWSR 58' stock, Bachmann Birdcages, Kernow Gate stock, Hornby Sunshine Black KIng Arthur...... Oh, I forgot - Hornby H class too!
  2. A few more pictures: The graffiti was officially sanctioned: This next one was running. Clearly it's not just models where electric locomotives can run with pantographs raised and no OHLE!!
  3. I visited last Saturday, 8th September. When I arrived at 10:45 am (it only opened at 10:30am) the car park was filling up nicely. Most visitors appeared to be Mr & Mrs Average with their 2.1 children, presumably from Coventry and nearby. Whether this was because ERM is closing, or the date was part of a national "Heritage" weekend, I can't comment. But nice to see what appeared to be a good turnout. According to one organiser places have been found for all the stock, but note it is 'places' plural, the collection will be scattered far and wide. They have an excellent souvenir handbook in colour A4, well worth purchasing for £5. Here are a few pictures I took: This last shot almost makes it look as though the site was served by a branch from the main line, and not the non-rail greenfield site that it really is: Thanks to all the volunteers who made it a good morning out, including showing me between sidings which were fenced off to the public.
  4. Does http://www.nrm.org.uk/OurCollection/LocomotivesAndRollingStock/CollectionItem?objid=1975-7006 match the silhouette?
  5. I must disagree with your assessment that they are 'crappy'!! I particularly like this one. I appreciate why the locomotives were lined up like this, but unfortunately their position and the access available for photographers meant photographing them wasn't easy. In the end I got my best picture of them from a trip on the railmotor. The 2 steam locomotives (King & Hall) were especially difficult to photograph - a minor observation though, not a criticism. I'll post some of my pictures later. Overall it was a great day, and good value too. Thanks to the organisers and owners etc who made it all possible.
  6. If you Google the depot, the satellite image shows the new Crossrail depot, but maps https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@51.5268428,-0.2480166,18z still (very faintly) shows the turntable.
  7. I jokingly suggested to 2 Network Rail workers that the weeds were spoiling the view, and they commented that it would be in their interest to cut them down as they were interfering with the 'sight line' - so maybe they will go in due course.
  8. Thank you to everyone who replied. In the end I dropped Mrs PJ off in Oxford and drove to Didcot, arriving just in time to see this: There were plenty of HSTs, strange to think that I was seeing the same as I first saw when I started spotting back in 1976 or 77 on a family holiday to Swansea, I was going to say that only the livery had changed, then I saw this: There was a fair amount of freight, surprisingly the majority went through the station along the GWML: Rather than to Oxford: Unfortunately not a single Warship or Western though. Finally, as I was walking back to the car: Reminded me of when I saw 47163 with its Silver Jubilee Union Flag at Colchester in 1977 (on another family holiday). I was impressed to see 2 ex-GWR benches at the London end of the platform, clearly put there for enthusiasts, along with polite request from station staff to follow a few simple, common sense rules - nice to be made welcome for a change. So, would I go again - Yes. Once again, thanks for your replies..
  9. Possibly the fact that it is listed under "Diesel" rather than "Electric" locomotives is making it harder to find?
  10. Based on the above picture the Hornby colour appears far too maroon, it clearly should be grey
  11. When you say "ready", have they made the kit for you? If so, could you post some pictures please when it arrives. Thank you
  12. Mrs Jack's idea of shopping is an hour to do each shop!!
  13. Hi, Mrs Jack wants to go shopping in Oxford, so I've got the option of a day at either Oxford or Didcot watching what goes past & taking pictures. Which would you recommend please for variety, especially freight? I've had a look on Real Time Trains, but so much of the freight is marked "Runs as Required" I've no real idea how much will be running. Thanks
  14. Have steam services been restored - I can't see anything on the Swanage website relating to this incident any more, so presumably damage was minor and the locomotives are back running again?
  15. Are you sure that the Warley price you are quoting wasn't for Model Rail Subscribers, also, some of the very first models released were sold at the original price quoted when first advertised. I bought some from each batch, and paid different prices depending on when I ordered, some were as low as £94.95 with discount, others £117.95 before discount as costs increased.
  16. The website has a banner which reads: Post Free UK Orders. More details The important bit is "More details". Further down the page, under "Delivery Options" it says: Orders weighing under 2Kg. Normally despatched by Royal Mail 1st Class Post. £4 per order if the total order value before postage is under £150. FREE if the total order value is over £150. Orders weighing over 2Kg. Normally despatched by our couriers Interlink Express. £4 per order if the total order value before postage is under £150. FREE if the total order value is over £150. Cheers, Gary
  17. Apologies if I've missed it, but when was the RTC one converted?
  18. In addition the amount that the sliding windows can open is restricted by pieces of wood in the runners to less than a head width - unless you have an extremely narrow head!
  19. As I understand it the 2nd loco is there as 'insurance' in case a loco breaks down whilst on the main line in which case the train could still be removed from the main line back to Swanage without waiting for a 'rescue' locomotive all the way from Swanage.
  20. OO Works may well mind - the danger is, if everything they make is copied a few years later by Hornby or Bachmann, what incentive is there for people to buy another OO Works product knowing that H or B will release a (probably cheaper) version (OO Works products are understandably more expensive) a few years later.
  21. Copied from the thread about the NYMR vandalism, here is the link for fundraising for the ELR: https://secure.thebiggive.org.uk/donation/to/64378/28866
