  1. Which station in Walthamstow? If it was the old LMS one (Queens Road I think?), then it's straight thro' via Bletchley.
  2. Don't forget the lubricators, and reversing rod. Before the Bachmann, and Hornby loco drive versions came out, over the years, I converted 12 Airfix examples to loco drive using, what was then, Comet chassis kits, 4 of which were converted to rhd. 10 left now, 2 have since been sold on.
  3. Good old hard Anthracite, the best to use for 'real coal' on model railways, if you use the softer Bitumen over a period of time will probably turn brown, the softer the quicker it will go.
  4. Common running-in turns for Eastleigh works were local passenger to Bo'mo', or freight to Wimborne.
  5. That's right, mine'll be in Cannock Rugeley Colliery's dirty black!
  6. That nearly happened, or what was left of it in 1965, there was a little indecision over what to do just before the final idea for electrification. 10 redundant Standard 2 tanks from the North West, had been sidelined for such a task had the final decision gone the right way - but it didn't, if only!!! Look under the class in BRdatabase, and see those down as allocated to Eastleigh, although with the exception of 84014 which was to be a trial run for adaption to Island running, it was just 'paper-transfers'.
  7. Didn't one of the bridges over the River Torridge have a strict weight limit, so the section between Torrington, and Halwill was run under LRO conditions, restricting trains to 2 coaches maximum hauled by either an O2, or an Ivatt 2 tank after the O2's were withdrawn??
  8. Sorry but traction tyres are 'muck-spreaders', likewise plastic wheels, I use neither on track or anything oil based, as far as I'm concerned it's banned if ya want good running. For tunnels, and the like, use track that has never been touched by any kind of abrasive - even any kind of pencil-lead, keep it clean, and smooth for excellent running, the slightest scratch on the rail-tops can cause trouble.
  9. Pity there ain't the old line-side industry still there, that would've been more interesting, 'look what we used to have', Patent Shaft, and Bilston Steel-Works - just think!!
  10. Not surprised, when first Haynes, then later Ian Allan, took over the OPC print they flooded the RBC with reprinted OPC titles, but, according to Rex Kennedy, mostly the wrong ones!!
  11. Hi Simon, the only problem with Ivo - he didn't seem to go south of Templecombe very often!!!????
  12. Nice little loco, I'm tempted to put a six wheel, outside cylinder chassis underneath, similar to a Fowler dock tank, to add to my colliery loco stud - mmm!!
  13. https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@50.7377934,-1.7883766,3a,75y,270h,90t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1st231wrh0tZdb0PLYLhP-1Q!2e0!7i16384!8i8192?hl=en The old site of the long gone MOD factory that made the bridges, now a major retail site.
  14. Thanks, that's the name, I use to deal with him as 'Xpress Publications', when I had a model railway, transport, and military book shop.
  15. Just taking the hook(s) off the loco on the standard coupling has done ok for me ( and improved the loco aesthetics).
  16. Excellent service - that's always been my experience with them.
  17. The joke is the price they put on it.
  18. Deluxe Materials make a wide range of adhesives to suit many types of materials, plus lots of other stuff, give their web-site a look. Deluxe Materials – deluxematerials.com
  19. Bloody sciatica with a 'disc' that likes close company with the nerves in the 'horse tail'.
  20. Glutten for punishment me!! Just acquired my 4th K's Stanier Mogul kit, probably end up the same as the others( page 21), with a suitably altered Wizard/Comet Fowler/Stanier 2-6-4T chassis kit, and High Level gearbox with motor(?) - Now in the pile of things to do when I (eventually) get this new layout finished.??????????
  21. The ELL with it's northern end going right into Liverpool Street would be the least option for that kind of working!!!!!!!!!!!! Likewise what was the freight only Snow Hill tunnel line, taking into consideration the restrictions on Blackfriars Bridge.
  22. So to answer the question of what was the fastest route for Newhaven to WCML in the 1960's would be non-electric haulage between Clapham Junction, and Willesden after the beginning of 1966 when the juice was officially switched on from Euston northwards.
  23. B17 popular with GC crews? Depends who you talk to! The B17/6 was a big improvement on earlier versions, but not to the standard of 'Jubilees..
