  1. Blimey, the practice has certainly paid off! Looking really good there, the opens are great. Well it's all great actually, good job!
  2. You think correctly. Volute springs were also used on some of the GWR's bogies.
  3. Mark turned my order round the day he got it, so I got my bits on the doorstep within a week of me sending it. This was about a month ago.
  4. I've used Chronos for quite a few items for my Warco Lathe/mill combo, always a good service. Also RDG Tools have always been good for me.
  5. You're making excellent progress, the steel minerals look great. As do the woodens! A couple of suggestions: Don't forget to go over the strapping on the Hunting wagon, you've got your wood colour going over it on one side. Try erasing the lettering on the planks you are going to paint with your fibreglass pen. I can see some poking out from underneath on the Hunting. Ric
  6. And South Eastern Finecast do a flush glazing pack for the autocoach. I got mine off some place on eBay (Peter's Spares IIRC). I've also got the Dart Casting's detailing kit on order and the Mainly trains kit is upstairs with the hacked about 1466 body. The top feed isn't that tricky to remove as the boiler detaches from the rest of the body and there is no hole to fill in after the top feed is gone. I used a Dremel to remove the bulk of it, then a scalpel for the pipework and file to finish it all off.

Looking good, Tim. I love gauche, so simple to use! I used a thin white wash over the woodwork when I was doing my engine shed to "fade" the paint, before then applying the dirt colours. There was a definite improvement to the overall look, to my eye.
  9. I'd be more inclined to go with a 4500 or 4575 to go with the B set.

  11. Haha, my folly in N is just a diversion until I have room for my over ambitious 4mm plans My paint practice is also on 4mm stuff.
  12. Most annoyed that I managed to miss this show as it's very local for me! I really must pay more attention to the events calendar.
  13. If this is your first go, the it looks like a good start. I've been mucking about with some old wagon bodies too and found at least an 00 or smaller was needed for me to get paint within a plank. Also try and use thinner applications of paint when building up the plank colours to prevent a blocky effect and make variations more subtle. Nothing I've done really started to pop until applying the dark wash and for that I'm now a convert to gauche. You can pick up a gauche set from ebay for a couple of quid, and a bottle of Micro Sol to dilute it.

    EBay madness

More than double most of the BIN prices I've seen - Collett Goods. Can't say I can see any trace of any "expert" weathering and am curious how one "expertly" renumbers?
  15. Surely there is some need for various size figures? After all, everyone is not a regulation 6' tall with perfect BMI. The two women you posted for example, could be mother and daughter?
  16. I like. A lot! Your first shot has convinced me to re-plan my layout so I can add an optional board between the main station area and the fiddle yard so that if I ever have the room I can bolt it in place for a larger scenic section. That long stretch of open track in the countryside is too good an opportunity to miss out!

    And So It Starts

Wow, your "model of the model" is a work of art in itself! I look forward to seeing the "real thing" take shape.
  18. Aargh, I knew there was a reason I was thinking of visiting the parents last weekend! Couldn't think what it was so just dithered about at home. Oh well! At least I put the finishing touches to my engine shed. Glad to hear you had a good time at the show and all went well.

Does anyone remember the infamous X Box box.?

    EBay madness

Ah, well at least it does have a genuine meaning! I thought it was made up to divert attention from a poorly applied livery.

    EBay madness

Back to our ever-optomistic seller of the "rare" GWR Siphon with the odd shade of "GWR freight brown", I'm wondering what a "Code 3 repaint" is... Code 3
  22. Ok, I've looked hard at pictures of the Farthing layouts but can't seem to find where the Hairy Gentleman is.
  23. That was my first thought. Just because the packing says they are whisky barrels, doesn't stop you from using them to represent barrels containing anything you wish.
