  1. I came across this picture on Flickr which I thought was interesting as I never realised that some of the early PWA wagons were originally curtain sided, but were then rebuilt to be like the rest of the batch. And does anyone know this location, it looks like it might be in Wales or Scotland?
  2. I love these pictures of the "hybrid" units.
  3. Yes, it did look attractive, but I do wonder who it was at BR who thought it would be a good colour for a railway carriage.
  4. Ahh right that explains it then. It was freebie and in working condition to boot!
  5. Perhaps that's the reason why it was preserved, as its relatively high top speed meant that it could actually be used to pull revenue earning trains.
  6. Yeah, it mentions that in the caption "Unusually, the centre headlights have been left in situ - these were usually removed upon refurbishment, to leave just the outer two. Also, the two intermediate trailers don't appear to have the cantrail gutters (yet) - another refurbishment alteration."
  7. I stumbled across some pictures of this station while I was looking for DMU pictures and it intrigued me for a couple of reasons. Firstly the unusual track/platform layout to accommodate the points for the run around loops and secondly because the line was only built in 1947, but was closed in 1977 which must surely be a record for a sizable terminus to have such a short life? Also it's a shame that a preservation society didn't take it over as although it's not a long branch it would be perfect for running brake van rides and you would have a ready made customer base with the nearby holiday/caravan camp. 1983
  8. A Class 116 DMBS, a Class 128 DPU and a SR CCT as a bonus!
  9. Oh right, I guess that they were using it as a livery test bed.
  10. I know this a BR shunter but i wasn't even aware of it until a few days ago, but I'm curious as to how an oddball shunter has ended up being preserved especially as only two of them were ever made. Does anyone know the story behind its preservation?
  11. I saw that item in a Rails email and it looks like the kind of item that will end up in the bargain bins with it being in a oddball livery, which is annoying when there are so many other items that we are all still waiting for.
  12. I never realised that the original version of this livery was actually slightly different.
  13. SR/English Electric R.E.L. Maunsell designed diesel electric 350hp 0-6-0 shunter No.15202 Class 12 Bulleid Shunters
  14. A bit of DP(U) porn with three Class 127's and some vans in tow for good measure at Agecroft Junction.
  15. Could it be this 03 as the caption for this picture says........ "03 170 survived beyond its BR career being sold into industrial use. In 1989 it was sold to Faber Prest Ltd for use at their Ordsall Lane Freight Depot in Salford, Manchester."
  16. Still in use in 1987 47283 on Edge Hill-Red Bank Vans Leeds City Station 14th-February-1988 Leeds to Red Bank Sidings Newspaper Empties on 25th October 1987.
