  1. Some nice wagon weathering inspiration here... Chester 1971 by David Blower
  2. A nice picture by our very own Mol_PMB of the Irlam Steelworks locos at Trafford Wharf in 1980
  3. I've just been re-reading the April 2009 Rail Express article about the TPE system and it says that the Nortons scrap yard had " a new contract to cut up 450 redundant MGR wagons"
  4. Yeah, I was wondering if it was parked there because they were the last company to use the line.
  5. The caption on this says it's Trafford Park Road, but it looks more like John Gilbert Way to me.
  6. It seems that a lot of the Alloa area workings are very inspirational....
  7. He has probably been banned from the location due to previous misdemeanors.
  8. I came across these nice pictures of the MSC version while I was looking for something else.
  9. Have you checked the back to back measurement of the wheels?
  10. These are my scans from my copy of the Souvenir programme for The Great Railway Exposition 1830-1980 at Liverpool Road station, Manchester. Some of the adverts were interesting. Does anyone remember the live steam Jinty or did you purchase some these overpriced tat valuable collectables?
  11. Manchester Central 1960s by MMU Visual Resources Sadly this shot from 1975 is how I remember the station....
  12. I'm wondering is this is one of the last times that trains actually ran on the TPE tracks? TH 180V at Trafford Park 14/12/2002 by Royston Morris
  13. I don't think that it would be much use as a heavy rail route these days, but I reckon that the southern section from Tunstall to Etruria could be turned into a pretty useful tram route.
  14. To be fair though there are two container terminals within a mile of the site and it was quite a lot of infrastructure to maintain for just a few wagons a day.
  15. Thanks. The reason I took these pictures was that as I've become older I've become more aware of how much rail infrastructure in the Manchester area has disappeared within my lifetime. To be honest I wished that I'd taken more notice when the trains were still running. I'm sure that most of have had those "I wish that I'd photographed this back in the day" moments.
  16. Hanley 1975 by David Blower From the caption " The Potteries Loop was a 7 mile 25 chains alternative route between Etruria Junction and Kidsgrove Liverpool Road on the North Staffordshire Railway's main line to Macclesfield"
  17. I've previously had these pictures that I took of the network in 2007 hosted on Picasa, but after the demise of that service I've rehosted them on Flickr. Just click on the pic to go to the album. It's sad to see how much of the line has been lifted even since I took these pictures though.
  18. Did anyone else go to the Great Railway Exposition at Liverpool Road station in 1980? I've still got the souvenir brochure that my dad bought during our visit. Pictures by Martyn Hilbert & Eric Harrison
  19. It amuses me that the design concept for this was essentially "chuck a giant oil drum on to a wagon chassis"
  20. Some rare pictures of the old ABB (Taylor Bros) wheel foundry
