  1. Nice job on the class 29, amazed how much work is required on these. Good luck with the Bachmann repaints, painting the window bars is a fiddly job but rewards the patience, it was a task I had to do when building my BSO and if I ever did another conversion I would look for Blue and grey donor coaches.
  2. On the flip side I boycotted the bluebell due to the lack of Diesels, this year I will visit it at least once, maybe twice for the 2 diesel days. I guess it is maybe the realisation that there was a lucrative market that can be tapped into for 1 or 2 days a year without diluting the core aims/experience of the Bluebell railway.
  3. My excuse was I was demoing at a show and had made good progress so by lunchtime on the Sunday all that was left as a Dapol kit in the botton of the project box. Building it as nature intended would not have filled the afternoon so it got burnt out. At last weekends show at Weston it was the most commented item on the whole layout (it lives in a scrapyard now) by the viewers
  4. Very handy. Mine has been used on both the Land Rover and MGB. I used a 5ton strap rather than chains and had no probs.
  5. Agree, I bought a cheapish 2 ton one and lifted the engine and gearbox in one go (No bulkhead in place) and definitely glad I shelled out on the crane as it was so much easier than with a static hoist. The biggest problem is space to store it....
  6. Would be great to see you Matt and catch up. Still lots of planning to do on the new layout and a bits of detail to iron out but Dave and I are aligned on our approach to how we tackle most bits which is the biggest challenge on any collective project.
  7. Hope Santa came bearing gifts that were wanted, mine was a Heljan Hymek which will undergo some surgery (glazing, wheels, partial repaint and renumber to D7017), plan is to have it complete for August for Minehead show for a cameo appearance on Peafore Yard as it is really for the next layout. Despite the dust having barely settled from Thornbury, it is only 2 weeks to the next show at Weston Super Mare on Sunday 15th January: http://www.westonsupermaretrainshow.com/. I have not been to this show before but the organiser has a good track record and apparently it is enjoys a good attendance. Like this year, next years modelling activity will be pretty minimal apart from the shows, I have a few bits of stock to finish and some minor tidying up of the layout but main focus is on non modelling activity (another house extension and finishing the Land Rover) in readiness for a big push with the new layout in 2018. I wish you all a Happy New year!
  8. I was pitched opposite Derails at Thornbury show, good guys and decent prices so I ended up buying a Hornby Sentinel off them (as did my fellow operator)
  9. Thanks Doug, would be interested to see some photos of your layout? My co-builder models 1959 so the intention is we will make the model so it can operate either late 50's or mid 70's.
  10. I would think while a 24/1 would be logical from primarily just adding a headcode box to the existing model, they had a much more limited geography of operation and thus would limit the potential sales compared to doing a 25/3 which would have more mass market appeal and would in all likelihood be the same cost/effort for SLW. Time will tell.
  11. If you are going to that trouble, as an alternative I would suggest buying some Lima 31's and transferring the drive train into the Lima chassis then put the Hornby shell on it or alternatively detail up the Lima bodyshell which in my opinion when detailed up looks better than the Hornby one. James on here did this mod:http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/19369-brush-type-2-re-birth-judgement-day/page-7 Jim S-W (I think) took a slightly different approach which I copied when I did mine of using the centre section of the Hornby chassis and making new mountings inside the Lima shell. I t was quite involved and I still have a nervousness about how long the chassis will last so anymore 31's I do will use the method James took.
  12. I have managed to model part of Bristol Temple meads/ mainline operation in 4ft:
  13. Hope they look after the Jag Nidge, looked a beauty.
  14. Another happy customer here, oddly every time I have been there I have gone a different way through the housing estate!
  15. I have my eyes on some locos for the new layout (class 33 and a Hymek), and with the purchase of the Sentinel, some locos have to go so if anybody fancies owning a bit of Peafore Yard/ Pallet Lane history, now is your chance as the following are available (happy to sell outside of ebay): 20059 20214 40135 Class 128 DPU 55019 http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/robowst/m.html?_ipg=50&_sop=12&_rdc=1
  16. The train heating boiler was made operative while at Todd but never certified for use. Not sure if it still retains it but doubling up with 37025 and having a steam heat hauled tour would no doubt do well.
  17. Hmm, not sure yet Adrian, need to see what I can get my hands on. Will probably need an earlier style of bus as well as the layout will be "dual era" as Dave models late 50's so presume a KSW or MW (I am clueless on buses pre 1970)
  18. It signifies that the "creative thinking juice" had been consumed to see what other ideas could be explored... Dave's glass at the other end marks the location of a road over bridge. Just need a Bristol RE on it now...
  19. It is fair to say since Thornbury the thinking has changed a little on the next layout. There were a few major pieces in my mind for the plan of "Pedwell" that didn't quite work and the budget was looking a squeeze so to cut a long story I have shuffled it down the list of projects.... The latest thinking is a 5' x 18" layout inspired by Radstock and models part of the station with the Marcroft wagon works off scene. Dave Spencer is up for modelling the wagon works on a separate board as he is looking for a smaller project, the idea being is both parts of the layout could be exhibited/used separately but can be joined together to create one layout. We did some planning tonight on the dining room table top (literally) to get a feel for siding length on my board, the board being arch shaped to give the track a nice curve. Peafore Yard was planned on the same table what feels like quite recently so it feels a little strange to be planning it's replacement but it feels a nice project.
  20. Indeed, I think there was another shop in-between Max Williams and Machine Mart. I still have my Lima Deltic which was given to me as a Christmas present when I was 5 that came from Max Williams. Many a minute spent in that shop.
  21. Hi Tony, Good to see you again at the weekend, the 7mm layout was called Bakewell Street, a lovely layout indeed.Good luck sorting the running problems, always a sense of satisfaction when they have gone.
  22. Thanks for sharing the photo Andy, will add the above to the list. Ha ha, yes it is all running fine Dan even if it is in bits..
  23. That is a shame, if nothing else you would think the windscreen etc would be useful for someone, it is not like auto windscreens are going to keep one in stock..
