  1. Kevin, no-one has said it will be FUN! My first opposite-side drive was from UK to my wife's home in Sicily. We went in the old air-cooled VW bus (which had the steering wheel on the right) and I loved every minute of it. Traffic in Palermo is exciting. I am a morning person, so generally we did most of our miles before lunch. We tried to avoid driving in the dark. I can't tell you how much I'd like to re-visit France especially but health issues prevent this at the moment. Ed
  2. I'd suggest that a Freezer plan for 6x4 needs at least 7x5, more if you have it. The Settrack plans ought to work and some of Paul Lunn's designs look intriguing. Ed
  3. Gas bill arrived. SEVEN pages of A4 plus one blank, plus a leaflet. Why? Ed
  4. What is the little brassy/coppery thing next to the smoke box door? Ed
  5. I understood every word of that Ivan! Ed
  6. If they charge much more than for FB then they ain't gonna sell much, especially with all the competitors now. I don't know, but how does the price of the concrete or steel-sleepered track compare with the "normal" stuff? Ed
  7. I suspect there will be further changes if and when UK leaves EU. I don't think that what is going to happen to ex-pats (either way) is clear yet. Ed
  8. Back when I joined this forum it was an "in" joke to talk about someone releasing a Blue Pullman. Bachmann did, and ever since it has been raining fabulous models. Never had it so good as the man said. Ed
  9. I have received an e-mail from Model Rail magazine inviting me to join them at Warley for what I read as a goody bag and a pint. In fact it was a goody bag and a pin. I already have all the pins I need, do you think I could have a pint instead? Ed
  10. What I would do is to get an old headphone plug, stick it in the line-in socket and jiggle it as required. Ed
  11. Yes, thanks, I enjoyed that and will have another look later. No problems accessing it for this IT numpty. Ed
  12. Morning all. Has anyone heard from Dave Torr Gifford? He was going to take to the water, I wonder if he did so, and if he still follows RMweb. Best wishes Ed
  13. My son tells me that he gets 30 pence per mile (how much?) for using his car for work, and the company tell him that "the Government" will give him another 15 pence per mile. Apparently one of the conditions of employment was that he had a car insured for business use. Does this sound reasonable? How does tis "Government" contribution work?'' Ed
  14. Really inappropriate use of smileys. Ed
  15. Ian Dudders could go, others not. Ed

A dab of graphite grease? Ed
  17. Hi Debs. I too have walking and breathing difficulties. Specifically for exhibitions I bought a "rollator". It is a walker frame, but with 4 wheels Between the frame is a seat with a storage box underneath. I can walk up to a layout, turn the gadget around and have a ring-side seat! Got mine second-hand from the local mobility centre for £40. Enjoy the show Ed
  18. I don't remember Airfix doing any loco's apart trom the ex-Kitmaster ones. They did goods wagons and "lineside" items. Kitmaster did loco's, coaches and a motorised van so you could (if you were better at building kits than me) make the loco's move. Ed
  19. I wasn't saying the piece shouldn't have been there, just that it was too late in a long show. Ed
  20. Morning all. Another carp night with little sleep. I like to listen to Radio 4 during the day whilst I potter. Pottering involves visiting many rooms in the house, so I like to have a radio on in each room. This used to be no problem and over the years I have acquired many wireless sets. My latest three have DAB which my son introduced me to (and up with which I will put!). These are out of phase with their forebears, such that I get 7 pips on the hour. On investigation I find that I have not only DAB and FM, but also LW. internet radio, TV radio courtesy of the virgins, TV radio by Freeview, mobile phone radio and possibly others. NONE of the bl00dy things are in time with each other. My son seems to think I should invest in several Bluetooth speakers, but he doesn't really listen to the radio at all. This is progress? And another thing. This computer uses Windows (10 I think) and something called Google Chrome which my son arranged because he thinks I will find it easier. My minii-pad uses iOS (I think) and my phone is a jelly-bean Android. All of these are very different from each other but, worse, it seems that nowadays the darn things decide at random intervals to turn themselves off and re-start with many things altered. Grrrr... If you are still reading I don't want your sympathy, but should you wish to send money...... Best wishes Ed
  21. Of course this was the comparison that oldTG didn't get. I'm guessing that lots of people with lots of money will watch this show and this in effect an advert for them. Even if they can't buy these "halo" models then the likes of Steve Cropley in Autocar are saying that the cheaper McLaren model is brilliant. I'm sure my local Porsche etc dealer will have one I can look at, and I expect it will generate a large footfall. I did enjoy the programme, especially the various TG jokes. Maybe if they are left out then the show will be shorter as Andy Y suggests. For me I'd had enough when the piece about the new track and the M2 came on. I believe the trick is to leave'em wanting more. Ed

A few questions from someone who hasn't seen one yet. Is it a "wonderful model", or a very good one at a good price? Is it, say, as good as the Hornby 00 one? As I said, I haven't seen or touched one yet and I bought my Bachmann one before I saw the Hornby one. Are the blue/black ones painted, or moulded in blue/black plastic? Surely logically the cab interior light should if anything be on when stationary and off when in motion? Finally, any news of when my pre-ordered green one (possibly with a black bonnet) will be arriving? Cheers Ed
  23. Yes,but people (including me) buy stuff from Amazon knowing that they treat their non-employees like sh!t so we can save a few bob on stuff. Bit like our trains being made by low-paid people in China. And we wonder why we've got no industry left. I'm all right Jack, pull up the ladder. Ed
