  1. With regard to de-commissioning signalling, surely those nice people who help themselves to cabling would be happy to help? Ed
  2. This is speculation. There could have been a fault with the tram. It also looks as though there was an "accident waiting to happen" with this corner, but can we please wait for the full enquiry results? Ed
  3. I thought about this freezing thing. If they had, or could find the money, then that was no problem. How much can you put on making a dying 14 year old feel better? I suspect that the "cure" may not work, but then I have been wrong about several recent events. If she was my kid I'd have sold the house and anything else I could. BBest wishes Ed
  4. I don't have a great deal of time for the politician who rhymes with garage, and I voted "remain" BUT surely the guy deserves some recognition. He pretty much single-handedly led the country to a leave vote and touched several nerves with the public. Ed
  5. It's beyond time that we stopped encouraging people to travel so much by any means. Perhaps they should "ration by price" the new line? Ed
  6. Dunno about own brand, but Kerrygold has shot up from £1.00 to £!.75. Never mind, I'm sure some things will get cheaper. Ed
  7. Good morning all. This may be a bit political, but as this Government was elected on an EU referendum ticket, surely somebody gave some thought as to what would happen in the event of a "leave" vote? They seem to be running around like headless chickens worrying about things like Grammar schools which were not on the manifesto. Best wishes Ed
  8. Amazon use "self-employed" drivers who struggle to make minimum wage. Ed
  9. Someone must have been disappointed. Ed
  10. This is a word that intrigues me. I have seen several spellings and have no idea of the origin, but it is widely used and seems to be universally understood. Best wishes Ed
  11. Thanks for those photo's Nidge. Yes, I've always liked the look of those Marcosses. When I was not paying attention in lessons at school most of my time was spent drawing cars. They often looked very similar to that. Ed
  12. In addition to a stop and proceed board, would it not be fairly simple to arrange a signal (traffic light?) that shows red until the tram stops and then goes green? Ed
  13. Good morning all. White goods problems. The fridge has been smelling of fish. Couldn't find what it was, so I've emptied it and thrown the contents away. Washed all the removable bits yesterday, will clean the inside today. Meanwhile the washing machine has made a flood, and on inspection it's been going on a while. The output hose appears to have split. I'm sure I kept one from an old machine (that'll come in useful!), but even if I find it it probably won't fit. Would like to have gone to Tolworth, but I can't face the journey. Off to find some breakfast now as nothing in fridge-see above. TTFN as Sir Jimmy would have said. Ed
  14. Speaking as a divorcee I tend to agree with that. It ain't nice to have a big hole in the bed where your wife used to be. Ed
  15. As I understand it some passengers can be carried standing up, and can go up and down stairs whilst the bus is moving. sorry Ed
  16. The last time I was in Tesco's at 11.00 on 11/11 they observed the two minutes and asked the customers to do likewise. I was impressed. Ed
  17. The ulnar nerve Neil. It takes a complicated route around the elbow. Mine are bu66ered, especially the left one which prevents me playing the guitar. They won't operate because it means a general anaesthetic and I'm too high risk, so they did a guided steroid injection into the elbow. Still can't play guitar and I've got a hurty elbow now! Did anyone else hear the piece about Walnut the Whippet on t'wireless earlier? It's on Farcebook for the dog lovers. I would link if I could. Best wishes Ed They just called it the ring finger when I was there. Forgot to add-the test is to try to grip a sheet of paper between the pinky and ring fingers. You should be able to exert a fair force to prevent it being pulled out. I can exert no force at all.
  18. It should be borne in mind that for a very long time this country had no trams (apart fro Blackpool which is pretty flat) and therefore there could be no accidents, let alone fatalities. None the less I hardly think this can be described as a "knee-jerk reaction". Ed
  19. Yes, but the brakes operate on the wheels or on magnetic blocks that grip the track. As soon as the vehicle starts to topple over these will have virtually no effect. Ed
  20. Does anyone remember Richardson's of Staines. I don't know what the building started life as, but there was a field full of scrap MG's. They let us take our own parts off and we'd haggle over the prices later. There was also a hall full of 50? "classic" MG's. They would never name a price, just saying "make me a good enough offer". The building was (is?) right next to the M25. After the days of running MG's on a shoe string ended I did note that the building carried a board saying "Richardson's Roofing". Does anyone know any more about them? Ed
