  1. It's not the shape of the windows, it's the glazing, the cabside windows appear as if they are melting (look at the bottom, it sticks out) and they all have a pronounced prism effect.
  2. Looks brilliant apart from the windows - clearly some serious issues to be sorted there. Please don't rush, I've got several 121s to pay for sometime soon.
  3. Those bodyside grilles on the headcode 24 are way too pronounced. On the real thing they were almost flush with the bodyside.
  4. Mk 3s are a better prospect than CAFs. A push pull 3 car set would sell very well to go with a 121. This could then lead on to the IC types. The bodyshell of a suburban and an IC TSO are essentially the same, the main difference being the windows which could be accommodated by a different glazing unit.
  5. That's what I said. Read it again, I said that CA were the first 2 letters.
  6. Some photos of actual test mouldings are now on the Murphy Models website. Due October-ish it says. Christmas pressies from me to me The big gaps are a combination of where etches are going to go I assume, and what looks like a lift off roof panel to access the chip holder, just like the 201. http://www.murphymodels.com/Class-121-Loco.html
  7. Three loco hauled Mk3b BFOs were built, 17173-5. These were not exactly the same bodyshell as a TGS but were very similar. Originally used on the WCML, they eventually found their way to the Great Western Night Riviera sets.
  8. If you’re wondering why CA was used as the first two letters for a guard’s van, it’s because TOPS was adapted from an American program and they couldn’t be a**ed to change all the codes. CA is for ‘caboose’.
  9. The passenger coaches were used to carry passengers, but not for the entire length of the service. I don't know about the up service, but when I did the down service it was only advertised as far as Bournemouth, I had to get off there and get on a 33/1 + 4TC which followed it down to Weymouth.
  10. I seem to remember that the problem with 158s down in the Bristol area was that they fitted OK gauge wise, but the problem arose with the way the doors move when they open. The plug doors move outward and in a few places could hit something. Minor alterations to just a few platforms were all that was required.
  11. The Lima 101 is in many people's opinion a more accurate bodyshell than the Bachmann one. The more recent Limby one has a decent mechanism, but if you've already got the Lima ones then these wheels present another option rather than sticking a Limby chassis under a Lima body. The 117 was also a decent model and once you've disposed of a brake van and made a few other minor improvements gives a pretty decent 117 (or a couple of other classes with a bit more work). I have 5 Lima DMUs that could use these wheels (plus 2 that already have black beetles) I also have 2 detailed Lima 47s that would benefit as well.
  12. It is definitely the same photo again. Exporting the photos and zooming in, you can see that the specks of dust on the wheels are the same.
  13. A few shots from the display cabinets at Ally Pally
  14. Given the price quoted for the 24, I might be buying elsewhere rather than modding a Bachmann one into an Inverness engine. The extra cost will probably be outweighed by the convenience and not having to buy the necessary bits n pieces.
  15. Wallet beginning to make whimpering noises....
  16. Loco and stock that go together? Got to be a rebuilt B201 and ex railcar push pull set.
  17. The last coach is actually labelled with the correct catalogue numbers for a TGS, but the description is wrong, TSD vice TGS.
  18. Those two shots are of two different livery variations. One is the non standard ED yellow cantrail stripe, the other is the 'standard' orange stripe.
  19. That's wrong. The initial delivery livery had full yellow ends. It was only a handful of early deliveries that experimentally had the buff coloured ends with yellow end door. This didn't last long and they all got full yellow fairly quickly.
  20. What he said.... These are exactly what I will be buying from this new stuff (If the promised gouge removal appears) Plus the odd wagon here and there. Hopefully the lack of completely new stuff will help reduce the ridiculous lead times that are currently the norm with Bachmann. Still patiently waiting for the 24 headcode version.
  21. Me too, but I live in Bristol so a firstday bus ticket gets me to their shop. This has the added bonus that I can see stuff in the flesh before I buy. I used to split between Liverpool and Sheffield, more or less 50:50. ps as for predictions re Bachmann’s newbies: Steam loco: standard 2MT an obvious development of the LMS version therefore quite unlikely especially as they haven’t already done it – many expected it to appear just after the mickey mouse but no… Diesel loco: don’t think they’ll announce anything except new liveries. Electric loco: class 81 possibly DMU/EMU: A 120 is the obvious choice and therefore quite unlikely. The 304/305/308 family is an outsider as is the 313/314/315/507/508 family. Coaches: Sliding door Mk3s
  22. quote The question is, is how many would be willing to sell the Bachmann 37s/47s or buy additional new models? How many people, like me haven't bought many Bachmann 37s because they can't bring themselves to part with lots of dosh for the product of the comedy of errors that led to the current incarnations of the Bachmann 37? I only have 6 but would have had very many more if it wasn't for the stretched nose, undersized windows, gouge in the bodyside etc etc etc. If someone produces an unrefurbished 37 to the standard of a SLW 24 then I might have to start flogging off some of my stock on Ebay.
  23. Nothing for me, but an interesting selection nevertheless. The success of the Peckett has clearly been acted upon, I know someone who will be very happy about the bigger version being announced. The sliding door Mk3s will undoubtedly be popular too, Most noticeable for me is not any particular item, but the aggressive approach, producing direct competition for so many items already available/announced by other manufacturers. As others have pointed out, not everyone can afford the prices to which some items have risen. Biggest disappointment is the complete lack of a 1st generation DMU. A revamped 110 was a possibility, but not even that.. I guess we'll have to keep our fingers crossed that the Danes shrink their future offering....
  24. Samantha disappeared a while ago, replaced by Sven.
