  1. Clue; an England Cricket captain from not too many years ago.
  2. The person who gets the answer is supposed to post a new square. I'll put up another one for now. This was the station in 2010
  3. Time for another duck Yes there is a railway in the top RH corner. It is a main line and this is the nearby station.
  4. Yes it's Eastriggs. Will you be putting up the next square?
  5. Next one is a military depot;
  6. The coast is half a mile to the south, the two diverging lines are two sides of a railway triangle.
  7. This one is rather more urban. The sea is half a mile away from the railway junction.
  8. Having spent a couple of days in Kirkby Stephen this summer, I recognised the square straight away. The disused line is the old Tebay-Darlington line that goes across Stainmore. I can recommend spending some time in the area, the Northern Viaduct Trust has done a great job in preserving the old viaducts on the disused line and there are excellent footpaths across them. The site of the Belah viaduct can be accessed too (the abutments and carcass of the old signal box remain). Also, the preservation society at Kirkby Stephen East station are a very friendly bunch and I was much surprised to (a) see that the old station has survived and (b) to see an ex-Barry wreck of a 9F there.
  9. Congratulations, a wonderful achievement. Graham
  10. Clue; the line is one of three that directly connect two large cities.
  11. We haven't had a duck for a long time now. This one's having a picnic. The nearest station looked like this five years ago.
  12. Sam, I think you've used a square from the 1:25000 series of maps. I think though that the square is this one in the 1:50000 series that we usually use in this game. It's Burn airfield near Selby. Cheers Graham
  13. No steam engines on this line. Turbo-jets perhaps.
  14. I knew that one..........Wooton Wawen, Stratford-upon-Avon canal.
  15. Have another rare model - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MAINLINE-37093-BR-LATE-4-6-0-PARALLEL-SCOT-LOCO-46137-PRINCE-of-WALES-VOLUNTEERS-/360679358476?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item53fa2a400c#ht_1304wt_1004 A parallel boiler Scot with a late crest on the tender,
  16. I thought overhead warning flashes started to appear in 1961 - or have I got that wrong?
  17. Dave, photo 7203 of 10001 at Brighton is dated c1952. 10001 moved to the SR in April 1953 but probably didn't receive the smaller BR emblem until May 1954 - prior to this it had the larger emblem. Oddly though, the 6P5F power classification (painted just above the loco number) was supposedly added at the same time as the smaller emblem but I can't see it on that photo. Graham
  18. I've just found out (from another thread) that there are two passenger services each day over this line. Apologies.
  19. Lots of railway in this square The footpath is not an old railway line. The steetview shot from the road rather gives the game away so another clue instead; the existing line in the square is freight and specials only.
  20. Langworth, near Lincoln.
  21. Ian, If it was 44 years ago (1969) then it will have been a Rugby - Nottm Arkwright St DMU service. There were no services to Nottm Victoria at this time. Saturday May 3rd 1969 (I think that date is correct) was the last day for this DMU service. Regards Graham
  22. You might gather from the rectangular station symbol that this is a sizeable place.
  23. It's oop north, just south of Thurso.
