  1. Having just put up four such wagons for sale in the classified section, I can confirm that two of them are 'Empty to Leighton Buzzard', one is 'Empty to Congleton' and one is 'Empty to Cholsey' Graham
  2. Dave, these photos just get better and better. As as Rugby resident I was particularly interested in those photos. Your father took a lot of shots where the direct and Northampton lines start to diverge. There is a multi-arched bridge in quite a few of the photos - it no longer exists - but would appear (from old maps) to have just carried a track/path across the railway. Do you know if your father took any shots from this bridge towards Rugby station as I think it would have shown the Peterborough line flyover quite well. Graham
  3. Dave, irrespective of any personal allegiances, that was a stunning set of photos. More please! Graham
  4. I hope you weren't waiting for a train! Though the line is slated for reopening sometime.
  5. No it was someone else's post.
  6. Thanks Mike, according to post #329 back in May 2012, they didn't start receiving SYP until 1965.
  7. Does anyone know when the Class 85's received their small yellow panels? Was it '62 onwards, similar to diesel classes? Graham
  8. Hi, is it me or does this look like the wrong tender for a Std 4? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SUPER-Bachmann-STD-CLASS-4-4-6-0-IN-BR-GREEN-LIVERY-/300870163300?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item460d425b64

    Dapol 'Western'

I will not buy one of these models until it's called 'Country and Western'
  10. Buy some Bachmann Mk 1 coaches and you'll get some more squeaks.
  11. I visited the town library of a station I was interested in and found two copies of the 1:2500 maps of the local area. One was dated 1950 and appears to be correct. The other was also dated 1950 but the cartographer had just added all the new roads and houses built in the subsequent 30 years to the original map and not changed anything else. So, for instance, the station and goods yard, which were closed in 1965 and demolished in 1968, were still on the map. Graham
  12. The Midlands' small engine policy may have worked on their own lines, but after the grouping many of the LMS top jobs were taken by ex-Midland men and they tried to enforce this same small engine policy on the rest of the LMS system. This did not go down well on the LNWR lines which had hitherto introduced larger engines to haul heavier trains. There was therefore a culture clash - the Midland cosseted their engines, whereas the LNWR pushed their locos hard.
  13. Another clue - the direction of the line in the square is a little misleading, the line goes cross country E-W.
  14. Clues for the latest square. It is not a main line, it is literally a cross-country line.
  15. No I didn't, I just happened on the right area. Sorry! Graham
  16. About time we had another duck
  17. It's Romiley up near Stockport
  18. I've recently posted in the Bachmann Blue Pullman thread about Coventry City's exploits (!) in the FA Cup, in which they lost convincingly to Everton in 1966. This location provided Cov with a victory in the cup in more recent times.
  19. This is north of Melbourne, south Derbyshire. The river is the Trent, the canal the Trent and Mersey. I'm not sure about the military conection, I walked the trackbed from Worthington to Wilson earlier this year but wasn't aware of any particular significance of this line.
  20. Next is another disused railway, now a cycle path, and just south of here is a preservation society line.
  21. This one is tucked away in Cumbria, SW of Aspatria
  22. I see the One Square duck has beem resurrected. Here he is again.
  23. Running for the last train home from Neath.
  24. Bachmann had samples of these on display at the Peterborough show. I asked about the expected delivery date and it will be sometime next year. Graham
  25. Another disused line, this is also close to a preserved railway.
