Beautiful work Mark. Although currently out of stock , Brassmasters do some etched GWR cab seats, E6, for those who want to add them here.

    https://brassmasters.co.uk/gwr_etched_components.htm

    Thanks Robin,

It is a lovely model and with a few tweaks it's certainly lifted from the out of the box appearance.

Folks will not be disappointed by it.

As for the Brassmasters top tip that's useful to know. I'll keep an eye out for when they are back in stock.

    Cheers,

Nice work Mark - one of those jobs you love getting stuck in to.

Results and pics show the enhancements nicely on the photo plank.

So what will you do about the Accurascale one...is that on the preorder list still...just to compare of course 😉

    Thanks Pete... 😉

Yep. It's been a lovely project and looking forwards to finishing it off along with the Clan's in my previous entry.

The Accurascale order is still on... 👍

After all. It will offer a different take on one of my favourite classes of loco and promises to be very special indeed.

    Cheers,

Just a quick question in regards to the Johnson's kleer, as to how permanent it is / can it withstand being handled etc?

    Morning B10M,

Many recognised modellers use Kleer as a varnish or setting solution for transfers.

I have used it over a long time with no problems with regards to permanency or handling.

It dries streak free and can be brush applied or sprayed. I do spray Valejo or Tamiya varnish over it to matt it down.

However I always use water based paints. I would not recommend applying enamels paints of varnish over them just in case there was a reaction between the two products.

All I would say is experiment on something old and see how you get on before attacking your best model.

    Cheers,

Lovely work Mark. only saw one of the class "McKenzie" it had red nameplates in1960.

    Rgds....Mike

Thankyou Mike for your king words.

Thanks as well for the nameplate colour information on McKenzie.

All being well I can crack on with putting the nameplates on and weathering 72001.

    Cheers,

    Hi Mark

I do like the Clans.  I reckon they're a touch more elegant than the Brits thanks to that smaller boiler.  Nevertheless I'm restraining myself from your Kernow tip despite a forthcoming birthday.

Some information on the tablet catcher - or the mounting for same, not sure they were fitted often, if ever - thanks to Chas of the Alloa crew:

Some comments on nameplate colours around the same point in the thread, plus or minus a page or two.  Have to say I don't recall seeing light blue nor green.

I didn't get hung up on the colour as mine disappeared under a layer of Kingmoor grime.  As forewarning, I find the (fairly bright) lining on the running plate really highlights any wear and tear to the weathering caused by handling the loco.  In retrospect I'd have been better removing it.

    Keep up the good work

    J.

    Thankyou Jamie,

Always good to hear from you.

I'd agree about the Clan's appearance being more elegant over the Brit's with the smaller boiler.

Thanks as well regarding the nameplate colour information and the tablet catcher fittings.

I remember your Clan on Culreoch and the Kingmoor grime. Very prototypical for the time modelled. I think my Polmadie example may be a bit cleaner. Thanks for the tip re: weathering as well.

There's a few more Scotish themed subjects lurking on the work bench.

    Cheers,

That improves the tender a good bit - pity it has to be done though....

    Thanks Richard,

I would agree entirely. I do think someone from Rails/Bachmann would have picked up on the thickness of the tender flares. Especially when compared to the 'C' Class tender as well as the Deeley tender on the 3F/4F.

I think I could have shaved a bit more off the thickness but reached a point where I was happy with the effect.

I would be a bit more apprehensive doing this work on the full blown Caley lined examples however.

    Cheers,

Lovely job Mark. I have early/late crest examples and feel they represent terrific value for money, run well and will pull a good load. I may titivate them in a similar manner to you, but for now I am happy with them. I hope the (round spectacle?) J26 appears, although with Hornby now in control at Oxford, I fear this well detailed and innovative budget brand will be subsumed. Shame, as their N7 is also a delight as is their goods stock.

    Cheers from Oz,

    Peter C.

    Thanks Peter,

I would totally agree with your sentiments.

The Oxford Rail J27 is something of a bargain. If you are prepared to put some work into detailing it, it certainly lifts it to another level.

I would agree. The J26 would offer something different and be well received.

    Thanks,

Dave Bradwell does numerous castings for the J27, highly recomended as is his J26/J27 kit.

I have two Bradwell J27s and they really knock the Oxford Rail offering into a cocked hat.

As for the Bradwell castings, I took receipt of two sets of mould 4 at the weekend to replace the dreadful chimney and to convert one to a low dome (maybe both) on my Oxford models.

I'd much rather invest the extra time and money into producing a Bradwell J27 but at my age time begins to creep into the equation.

Thankyou to you both for your replies.

Very helpful and I will be certainly purchasing a Set 4 mould from Mr. Bradwell to enhance another Oxford J27.

    Cheers,

A good example of how a few well devised and executed details can transform a model. Suddenly it looks real.

Nicely painted figures too, Model U figures are great but the paint job still makes or breaks them.

    Thankyou Mikkel

It was a lovely project and the Modelu figures like you say helped to lift a fairly mundane model.

I must say these newer Modelu figures really are crisply printed and well defined.

The Vallejo acrylics are always good to work with as well as you well know.

    Thanks again.

    Again, nice work Mark.

Liking the suggestion for making the tarp :good:

Any 2mm on the horizon? :D

    Thanks Pete.. ;)

Can't beat a Tunnocks Wafer I say and a free tarpaulin to boot. My preference is the Dark Chocolate version.

2mm coming together and will appear eventually. May be a bit of 009 before though... :)

..... come under the category of 'want' rather than 'need!'

    There is that of course.

Sometimes they do pop up for a reasonable price pre-owned.

They do add a bit of variety as well.

The un-motorised Wickham Trolley would be a useful scenic prop in itself.

    Thanks,

.... Out of interest, what are the Wickham trolleys like for electrical pick-up reliability, please?

    Thanks CK..

Personally I've never had any issues with running this Wickham Trolley.

It even copes well on a friend's layout with dead frog points.

There are traction tyres on the leading trailer driving wheels and it has 6 wheel pick up.

Very nice running qualities too and a set of spare traction tyres are enclosed.

    Hope that helps.

    Top stuff, Mark.

A very characterful addition to the roster.

    Rob.

    Thanks Rob,

It's been a nice little project over the past few weekends.

Those Modelu figures really are superb. The definition and detail is lovely crisp.

Not encouraging parting with your dosh but I could see a Wickham Trolley on a Sheepy creation of yours... ;)

  14. Hi Pete... ;)

Good week off and nice and productive by sounds of things.  :good_mini:

Lovely presentation as ever and some ace problem solving regarding sub-structure support.

The drawings certainly add to the conceptual thoughts and instigation of the working design. Always great to see.. :D

Great panoramic snaps that show off the quality of the modelling along with some top notch 7mm traction to boot....;)

Looking forwards to further updates... :good_mini:

Cheers and keep it Tractor Thrash Tastic.... :D

Always great to see a new blog entry from you Mark.;) I'm looking forward to seeing the Hatton's Genesis versions on release.

    Thankyou you kind Sir... ;)

Hopefully they'll be a few more along the way shortly. Just finish off a few projects..

Agreed. I've a feeling the Hattons Genesis coaches may come up trumps. I've one on order as you might have guessed.. :)

Saying that the Hornby coach  does scrub up well..

    Cheers,
