  1. So the apples were delivered in mineral hoppers, from France to Herefordshire of all places?! That's unbelievable! Is the building in your first photograph what is now known as the Nelson building? I spend some of my working week there as our libraries stock unit is based there, although with no access to any of the drinks plant. Fantastic pics of the naming; I'm sure I'm not the only local looking forward to Heljan's model of Cider Queen.
  2. Thanks all for your interest and insight. It's amazing how much variety existed on the railway then. Paul - are they clay hoods in your first picture? Bulmer's 'Cider Queen' is hiding at the back of this one; http://www.herefordshirehistory.org.uk/archive/herefordshire-images/166661 There are a couple of early shots of Barton station (now Sainsburys) for Brassey; http://www.herefordshirehistory.org.uk/archive/herefordshire-images/157646 http://www.herefordshirehistory.org.uk/archive/herefordshire-images/157652 I will keep my eyes peeled and post any others of interest as we develop the site. Thanks again!
  3. I work for Herefordshire Libraries, and I've recently been lucky enough to be part of the development of a new website call Herefordshire History featuring allsorts of old photographs, newspapers etc. The site is now up for preview, so I can share these 2 gems of Hereford goods yard with you all, recently uncovered in a box of slides deposited at Hereford Library and scanned for the website; http://www.herefordshirehistory.org.uk/archive/herefordshire-images/166640 http://www.herefordshirehistory.org.uk/archive/herefordshire-images/166641 No idea what that weird coach is next to the Class 08. Anyone have any ideas? (Clicking view larger image will increase the image size btw) We will be attaching more information shortly (I believe these were taken sometime between 1968 and 1975), but the descriptions that accompanied these particular slides just said 'Hereford industry'. Please excuse me posting links rather than embedding the photos but it would be nice if they prompted a few locals to have a poke around the new site too!
  4. I would also love to hear more - I'm thankful of everybody that's contributed so far!
  5. They are some of the most realistic photos I've seen in a while. The whole railway 'picture' looks complete. Cracking stuff.
  6. You might be able to remove the glue...Try a cotton bud with a little bit of t-cut on it - be very gentle! I managed to get rid of some superglue recently on a bodged depot plaque application. Worth a go before repainting maybe?
  7. Another n gauge wagon weathered - this is a Farish BYA. I'm currently enjoying running my n gauge round a big circle of n gauge kato unitrack when I get chance. In my head I keep planning the layout...when I have more room! I have a DBS 66 from Dapol en route so I think a few more of these are needed. Strangely I have been considering how in some ways to get the best out of n gauge you actually need more space than OO, to justify the full length trains the scale does so well. Still, I keep having fun weathering the stock and running stuff round my circuit :-)
  8. I've a feeling if you don't add the detail now you'll never be happy with it - your consistent high standard of modelling is really impressive!
  9. It's certainly worth the wait - you aren't compromising anything for speed, and that will be worth it in the long run!
  10. Have you thought a about casting these, maybe in resin?
  11. I have absolutely no idea about Danish railways, but this looks really promising. I will be following this one!
  12. Thanks guys! Really pleased with these two.
  13. Some N gauge weathering completed this week - a Dapol ferrywagon picked up from their factory shop on the way home from North Wales on Tuesday, and a Plasmor Oba that was £6 from Hattons when I ordered myself a circle of Kato untrack for testing/running in. I bought it because I like the livery! Weathered using black and burnt umber oil paints and Humbrol dark earth weathering powder. Very pleased with these!
  14. The holy grail of railway modelling! Full length trains. Looking brilliant; I'm looking forward to seeing it develop, as your standards are very high indeed.
  15. Hello! I've created a new thread over in the Boxfile and micro layout section of the forum to show some of the progress I've made on the micro I was thinking about before Christmas. I've picked a Generic Forest of Dean style setting and built it entirely from stuff I had lying around. Please take a look; http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/85024-a-forest-of-dean-layout-in-an-a4-box-file/
  16. That's Incredibly neat work on your 08, Jo. Brilliant.
  17. No pics yet but will try and grab one later if I remember! N gauge really is the scale for innovation at the moment, as well as the 2mm crew and their stunning work. I think its the emphasis on layout rather than just locomotive, or stock.
  18. Thanks again for the step by step guide to the 37 bogie mod - I did mine yesterday and its made a big improvement to the look of the loco, it somehow looks heavier! Cheers pal.
  19. Thanks for taking the time to post the step by step. I've no excuse now! As for the pics of the bridge - looking superb. What stands out to me is the consistency of the paintwork on the loco, wagons and bridge - this standard across the whole layout will be a show stopper. Please keep updates comings!
  20. If you want to keep the tension locks and improve the look of your loco, you can attach some wire across the buffers for the wagons hook to latch onto?
  21. Utterly brilliant. So much effort has gone into the building of this, it must be daunting to start whacking paint on?! Best not to think too much about it I guess! It's really coming alive now though. Seriously inspiring modelling!
  22. That bridge is superb. It's great to see it come together from the work in progress shots, so thank you!
