Oh dear. Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear... what a dreadful pity I still don't have the room for a 7mm layout based on the Rugby to Market Harborough line c.1965....!!! I mean, what's a chap supposed to do...?!!! Just buy one anyway...? 😁 It looks a real beauty of a model, imagine a green / SYP example nicely weathered....

My grandad was the sound recording engineer on some of his live LPs! (And Jasper Carrot's). I remember one of Max's catchphrases was ''I know, coz I was there...''.

Also known as Greaves Sidings, there was a signalbox opposite bearing this name. One of the regular signalmen there was Nigel Fletcher, drummer from the pop group Lft.Pigeon, who had a hit with 'Mouldy Old Dough' in the '70s. He also recorded several Westerns at Leamington Spa and put it out as an LP.

Why were the Class 60s so unreliable?
Rugd1022 replied to OnTheBranchline's topic in UK Prototype Questions
As someone who's driven almost half of the class I'd say they were a very reliable workhorse, during the time I was with EWS I only ever had one failure on a '60 and that was due to a braking problem. I certainly miss them, the cabs were quite small but they were very comfortable and enjoyable to drive, with that lovely deep rumble behind you when you opened them up.- 43 replies

What do Theatre Boxes display?
Rugd1022 replied to BluenGreyAnorak's topic in UK Prototype Questions
I remember going into SW Sidings in the old days and coming to a stand at the stop board at the Acton Wells end, then having to walk all the way down to the other end to wake the shunter up who was fast akip in Acton Lane 'box! About a year ago I was sat at Canal Wharf waiting to get across the junction at Wells when a Richmond bound unit failed right on the points, I sat there for two hours while it all got sorted. With five double track lines converging it's a very busy bottleneck at times. -

Still a mix of semaphores and colour lights semaphore Keefer - here's a (very) quick sketch of the route with Acton Wells on the left and Dudding Hill on the right... There is still plenty of traffic using as it's a vital north to south connection in that part of London. -

There are home signals with distants below them on the Dudding Hill to Acton Wells line, with one in each direction between Dudding Hill and Neasden Junction. In forty years of knowing the branch I have never ever seen either distant signal in the off position! Having said that, Neasden Junction 'box is often switched out. -

In JVOL2008 the overbridge in the background was a 'farm' bridge connecting the golf course on the left to the land on the right which backed on to Butil Road, it was demolished in the early '60s. The track up against the flyover arches was the Up Fast Goods Loop which for a very short period was wired up for high speed testing of early AC Electrics.

In the '50s my nan had a cleaning job at one of their premises, she kept schtum mostly but told us a few stories about them which were rather grim. Another bit of Jag based nostalgia - a Daimler Double Six receives some fettling at the Vanden Plas works in Kingsbury, London...

There's a thread about ex-rozzer S-Type Jags on Pistonheads which mentions that very car... https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=140&t=1917262
