  4. On the way to the NEC classic car show last month I stopped off for a shuftie at Guy Broad's garage in Browns Lane... Apparently this is the very first Lynx XKSS built...
  5. Could easily be a bit earlier, 1965 maybe. I've seen other photos of D1733 looking unkempt around the same time. After the viny logos were removed (about a fortnight after being applied in '64) it was never really kept that clean.
  6. Photos by Michael Hine : 'XP64' Brush Type 4 D1733 at Brum Snow Hill...
  7. Photo by Phil Cotterill : 47 060 drops down to Ryecroft Junction on 14th October 1982 as a 25 climbs the bank up to Aldridge...
  8. This for me is pic of the week - I sign the road here and almost didn't recognise it...! Cracking shot Dave, very nice indeed.
  9. I can certainly relate to that despite being thirteen years younger than you - I have no memory of BR steam but have been told my my uncle that as a toddler I travelled out of Waterloo behind a Bullied Pacific twice (it was a relatively small window of time, September '65 to July '67) so I do feel a connection to the 'classic' steam days of BR. Coming from a mostly railway family (Great Western and LMS) it's all pretty much ingrained anyway, and although my main sphere of interest is the Diesel-Hydraulics there will always be a soft spot for the last decade of steam. I'd add that another reason for the long running popularity of BR steam is the fact that so much of it has been recorded on film, so it is in effect right there in front of us, whether in still photography or moving film, giving us a gigantic window on what everything looked like.
  10. Lovely looking model that, topped off nicely with the etched number and shed plates 😉
  11. Photo by Ian Charles : Thornaby on 7th April 1979... Photographer unknown : D5567 at York on 7th January 1961...
  12. Burt Lancaster enjoys a laugh with the train crew whilst filming 'The Train' in 1964...
  13. I was at Padd that day, just minutes after '41 came to a halt on its side, I was on the way in to Old Oak for the 06.00 shed turn on the tube from Hammersmith and saw the coaches skewed with some on their side as we pulled into Padd. When I got off you could hear a pin drop and there was still a fair bit of dust in the air. I made my way past the lawn to board the workabus where I found six other Old Oak lads waiting, there was much confusion on the way down to Old Oak and when we arrived the lobby was full of train crew booking on with nowhere to go. I can remember it as though it were only yesterday.
  14. Up, Up And Away - Jimmy Webb / 5th Dimension
  15. I was watching him in 'The Persuaders' and 'The Gold Robbers' the other night.... 95 is a good age. RIP.
  16. I'd say that's about right - the OLE gantries have appeared bu the wiring isn't yet installed.
